It is important to always remember that the significance and value that we attribute to any event in any calendar year are only those events specifically outlined in the Shariah to be of value in Islam. Likewise, in the absence of any value attributed by the Shariah to any particular day in the year, all days become of equal value bearing no notable or special importance to a Muslim. Of those glorified and honoured days in Islam is the blessed and exciting month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a month elevated and glorified by Allah Almighty in the Quran for being the time in which the Quran was revealed, the month which contains the greatest of all nights in the year Laylatul Qadr, and a time of forgiveness of sins, increase in piety and many more great bounties for the hereafter. It is occasions like Ramadan that a Muslim venerates and celebrates. It is days like Ramadan that a believer feels the positive elevating spirit of joy and happiness with family and the wider community. The shared emotions of such a spiritually uplifting season are borne from the obedience and servitude that a believer offers Allah during these precious days in responding to the invitation to seek his pleasure and plough on this earth for the rewards of the hereafter. I want to remind our wonderful Unity Grammar community to anticipate the arrival of Ramadan AH 1440/2019 CE and look forward to its arrival in Week 2 of Term 2 with energy and renewed commitment to worship. Also, look out for the special Ramadan programs and events that Unity Grammar will be rolling out in honour and celebration of this beautiful Islamic time of the year. Mr Muhammad Khodr K-10 Languages Coordinator Senior School Boys Wellbeing Coordinator Message from CEO Assalamu Alaikum Term 1 for 2019 has been filled with so many great opportunities for our students at Unity Grammar. I have witnessed a higher degree of academic commitment from our students this year. Students have been focused on their learning, none more so than our Year 12 students, who are looking to set a new bar of achievement for the HSC. This week I have also seen a large number of Junior School students receiving bronze medals for their ongoing commitment to their education. We have had students participating in community activities outside of school hours, providing for those who need assistance. We were very fortunate to be graced by Amal Kassir and be shown what it truly means to be humble through her caring nature, and at the same time demonstrate a will to persevere through her actions and leadership. Students competed in swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals, with many now preparing to challenge themselves for the next level of competition. We are starting to develop a reputation among other schools for being competitive across a range of activities such as sport, debating, public speaking and robotics. Congratulations to all our students who have shown improvement at Unity Grammar, and more importantly, a willingness to demonstrate our core values of sincerity, integrity and allegiance through working to become the best human beings they can be. We currently have students on Umrah and by the look of the photos already circulating, it is clear our students are on a trip of a lifetime. Our Boys and Junior School robotics teams are also about to head overseas for the International FLL Robotics Tournament in Houston, Texas. I would like to send both teams our best wishes and am sure they will represent Unity Grammar and Australia with distinction. Lastly, I would like to wish all our community a safe and relaxing holiday, and look forward to seeing you at the beginning of Term 2 for what will be an exciting period of the year, with the month of Ramadan starting in Week 2 and our College Eid Festival on Thursday 13 June 2019. Message from Junior SchoolAssalamu AlaykumItrsquos hard to believe that Term 1 of the 2019 academic year is coming to an end It has been an extremely busy term indeedThis term students have been involved in a wide range of learning experiences and events that had a strong focus on academia and wellbeing Year 3 students visited Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden and explored various specimens of living creatures They greatly enjoyed the bush walking trip as they closely examined different Australian animals plants and insectsIn order to move away from the limited view of Mathematics as drill and practice and computation a greater emphasis has been placed on making the purpose of learning Mathematics visible to students Our programs have been specifically developed to incorporate

practical hands-on and visible teaching strategies that promote problem solving and critical thinking Our aim is to encourage students to experience the joy of Mathematics and to see its relevance in their own lives now and in the future I highly encourage parents to actively incorporate Mathematics into conversations with their children and more importantly to display positive attitudes towards MathematicsTerm 2 is set to be another busy and productive term as students will be working hard in preparation for the mid-year exams Moreover students in Years 3 and 5 will sit NAPLAN on 14 15 and17 MayI would like to wish our students and parents a safe and enjoyable breakSahar ChaaraniJunior School Coordinator

Kindergarten had fun getting their eyes tested by Moorebank Early Childhood Health Centre

The Big CrunchAssalamu Alaikum Last week the whole of Junior School participated in Vegie Week and The Big Crunch It was a great success and students enjoyed talking about their favourite vegies with each other Many students attempted a new vegie for the first time and a couple of our enthusiastic and devoted teachers dressed up as vegies for the event All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 gathered in the quad for a mammoth countdown and at 10 am they crunched on their vegiesI would like to thank all parents for encouraging their children to participate We couldnrsquot have achieved such a success without your continuous support Letrsquos not let the goodness of vegies come to an endLetrsquos crunch even louderUp the veg at your place by being a vegie role model

Mrs OstaPDH Coordinator

Year 1 travelled through time and lived like the children of the early 1900rsquos at Susannah Place Museum

Encourage your kids to eat more vegies by showing them how often you eat themTalk with your kids about why you like vegetables and which ones are your favourites Steer clear of talking about health though Kids live in the moment so taste texture and how they feel right now is what matters to themGet your kids involved in meal planning Make sure you put a focus on deciding which vegies you will include in your meals and snacksTake your kids shopping for your weekly veg Ask them to help you choose the best Whether itrsquos based on price seasonality or freshness your kids will love feeling responsible for decision makingGrow your own Even if itrsquos just a couple of pots of lettuce on a sunny window sill It all helps to make vegetable eating funMost importantly keep putting the vegetables out there Donrsquot force your kids to eat veg but do give them lots of descriptive praise or non-food rewards (family card game anyone) for eating them
