Welcome to Okanagan Falls!

With Okanagan Falls at its heart, vineyards stretch Northwards along the East Bench of Skaha Lake and across the water to Kaleden and then South over rolling hills above Vaseux Lake.

Over tens of thousands of years a series of glaciers, up to 3 kilometers thick, carved a great valley out of the mountains that we now call the Okanagan. In places it is deeper than the Grand Canyon. The retreating ice mass left behind long benches of fertile soil and a series of spectacular lakes. Our region of the South Okanagan is a unique climatic zone known as a semi-arid steppe, the final stage of a desert area that extends up from the United States. Along with that comes long warm days and cool nights that retain the acidity in the grapes and helps shape their distinctive character and flavours.

Our 14 award winning wineries have over 185 hectares in vines and produce a combined 110,000 cases for an amazing 1,300,000 bottles of wine each year. Our region represents over 11% of the total domestic wine bottled in British Columbia and generates nearly $30,000,000 in retail sales.

One morning in 1929 a crew from Okanagan Falls set off to a deserted mining camp 16 miles away to dismantle an old wooden church and bring it back to Okanagan Falls. The plan called for a blast of dynamite inside the church to “loosen the nails”. Save for losing the steeple, the plan succeeded. In naming our VQA wines Blasted Church, we celebrate the ingenuity of this initiative. Getting religion never tasted so good! Along with exceptional terroir, owners Ian, Jane, Matt and Christie Mavety credit their success to the integrity of their estate. To the Mavety family, “estate” means more than the piece of land; it extends to the practice of both viticulture and wine making by the same owner-operators. At Blue Mountain, it also means the use of 100% estate-grown grapes. Following the estate concept to its fullest extent sets Blue Mountain apart from most North American wineries. The Mavetys acquired the land in 1971, which overlooks Vaseux Lake. The prized geography of undulating hills and mountain protection was swiftly recognized to offer varying micro-climates. The wines of See Ya Later Ranch celebrate the lively legacy of Major Hugh Fraser, a colourful character who purchased the property high above the Okanagan Valley in 1919. The Major found the freedom and open skies of the valley the perfect complement to his fun-loving personality and fondness for lavish parties. Here near the town of Okanagan Falls he planted vines and seeded a legend. The ranch was his home for more than forty-five years, each one adding to a rich mix of truth and fiction involving elaborate gatherings, plenty of dogs and a wife from Ontario who on seeing the rustic surroundings left both the Valley and a three-word note: “See ya later.” In 2003, a series of wines were created under the See Ya Later Ranch name to salute both the site’s colourful history and the man who first planted grapes in the beautiful mountain setting.

Rosé has become a powerful varietal for BC winegrowers and is capable of such different expressions in different soils, elevations and micro climates, and when subjected to different winemaking regimes. SKAHA Vineyard Rosé is handcrafted from Merlot grapes. Crisp and refreshing with concentrated notes of strawberry, raspberry, juicy watermelon and a lively hint of rhubarb and cranberry on the finish. Enjoy on its own or pair with BBQ fare, turkey dinner or red berry summer salads.

This vibrant Rosé has a juicy nose of strawberry, cranberry and a bit of spice. Creamy on the palate, it offers flavours of strawberry, raspberry, red currant, rhubarb compote and some savoury notes. A blend of 39%, Merlot, 29% Cab Franc, 23% Malbec and 9% Petit Verdot. Cranberry, rhubarb and raspberry jump out of the glass in this highly aromatic blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. On the palate more bright red fruits, herbaceous notes and tart rhubarb, blend effortlessly with mouth-watering acidity, making this Rosé the perfect accompaniment to the summer season.

The 2014 Gamay Zinfandel Rosé sings of strawberry rhubarb pie on the nose. Juicy ripe berry fruit is delivered again on the palate and is balanced by refreshing acidity.

SEE YA LATER RANCH - NELLY ROSÉ 2015 CSPC# 229096

This Rosé shows intense notes of strawberry and raspberry on the nose and palate. Unoaked, our Rosé is fresh and crisp with spice, dried fruit, and rhubarb underneath and on the smooth, clean finish.

SYNCHROMESH – CACHOLA FAMILY VINEYARDS CABERNET FRANC ROSÉ 2015 CSPC# 51284

These grapes were picked early at only 19 brix, gently destemmed and cracked where they lay on their skins for 16 hours after which they were lightly pressed and fermented cool. The result is a pretty light salmon colour with subtle reheated frozen strawberries, pink grapefruit and prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe. Bone dry with a dusty peach juice finish and subtle salinity.
