News Letter of Rotary Club of Delhi SouthendPresident: Rtn. Atul Raheja Secretary and Editor: Rtn. Amit Chaudhry Treasurer: Rtn. Hemant Bhasin
FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESKDear Friends,As the Rotary year enters its 5th Month, I just thought I would share both Mini's and my personal experiences so far. Its been an extremely rewarding period for us. The tremendous support has made the year breeze through , Kudos to all the Chairpersons and the Past presidents who have made major events seem like child's play.
The JLT's have been the highlight of the year for us. I don't think we have eaten at home more that twice a week .
I look forward to the rest of the year.
Noteworthy to mention that contributions for Social services continue to pour in.
Geeta Anand has agreed to contribute Rs 25 lakh towards Sparsh this year. Three cheers to her.
Muktesh Lekhi has been kind enough to get a contribution of 10 lakhs towards Sparsh from Mr Ashok Munjal. Out heartfelt gratitude to them.
These incidents increase my passion manyfold, friends please continue your generosity.
Warm Regards
Rtn. Atul Raheja President 2016-17
BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International are separate entities with distinct reporting requirements. Under United States tax law, they are both tax-exempt organizations. As the sole corporate member of The Rotary Foundation, Rotary International is required to include the Foundation's financial activity in its own financial statements. The Rotary Foundation also publishes separate financial statements covering only its activities.

ISSUE OCTOBER 2016
The rejuvinating trip to Rishikesh and Haridwar was really memorable. The first evening was a mesmerising experience at the Ganga Aarti at Parmaarth Ashram and a private audience with Swami Chidanandji. Swamiji and Saadhvi Bhagwati ji spoke on the great works Rotary does and gave a talk on the theme of our year SPIRITUALITY & SUCCESSDay 2 began with an enlightening talk and demonstration on alternate medical healing system by Dr. Vaish from the Human Energy Research Centre. Almost 15 members went for a follow up Aura Therapy after the talk. The visit to Patanjli hospital in the afternoon was an eye opener. Later, a one to one meeting with Baba Ramdev, at his kutir, where he spoke about his management style and success had all our Southenders awestruck. It was a great insight and learning for all.On day 3 we were fortunate to meet and listen to Swami Akhileshwarji. He spoke about true HAPPINESS and inner peace as explained by Sage Vidur in the Mahabharta. The grand finale was the Ganga snan at the VIP ghat where the pure and chilled flowing waters literally cleansed our mind, body and soul.A truly humbling experience organised to perfection by chairperson Rtn Jatender Mehta.
EVENTS GONE BYRishikesh Trip
The 4th community services project held at the Arya Samaj Mandir Dispensary and was attended by 28 Souhenders to donate a fully computerised X-ray equipped dental chair for treatment of poor , underprivileged patients. The overwhelming response of individual Rotarians to collect the Rs. 90000 shortfall in addition to the Rs. 1 lac donated by the club brings out the true spirit of Rotary.Very useful home remedies discussed were of great value to members who requested for copies of the same. The finale.. the amazing Navratra food organised by the Annes was a special highlight of the evening.Great job done by Chairperson R'ann Aneisha Munjal in the choice and execution of such a meaningful project

DIWALI PARTY & INSTALLATION OFROTARACTORS & INTERACTORS
To welcome the festive season Southend organised a grand Diwali party on Sunday,16th Oct at Sultanpur farms recreating the magic of Deep Deepawali. A thousand Diyas and the beautiful flower rangoli added to the ambience of a perfect fun filled musical evening. Over a hundred members with the ladies dressed in their Banarasi Silks and men in their traditional kurta pyjama and jackets added colour and glamour to the theme.Carrying on with the innovative idea of combining events we started the evening with the Installation of the Rotaract and Interact Clubs. Students from Bal Bharti Air Force School and Galgotia University were so excited to be pinned by the Chief guest, the legendary cricketer and MP Mr. Kirti Azad. They loved being part of this event and expressed their happiness and gratitude again and again before leaving.Thank you Rtn Rahul Mehra for the great effort in organising the Installation event.Later in the evening members enjoyed card games like Flash , Black jack and Under over lucky seven.Breaking away from the traditional paid raffle tickets , there was a lucky draw with four big prizes. We also celebrated the anniversary of Rtn Suneel & R'ann Padmini Galgotia and birthdays of R'ann Cherene, Rtn Ashish & PP Rtn Lovy Khosla. It was one big Southend family bonding , partying and celebrating together.Thank you Event Chairperson Rtn Nitin Arjun and Sonia for an outstanding party and converting the Deep Deepavali dream into reality.

This month we would like to applaud our very own Rtn. Sudhir Seth for his wonderful initiative in the form of the Sudhir Foundation. Over the years, the Sudhir Foundation has played an active role in contributing to numerous charities. The organization has not only donated but also carried out a range of activities that support society such as promotion of education, health & cultural life, assistance to uplift the social condition of the poor and provision of fellowship to support the youth. Recent events include a learning camp, drawing competition, blood donation camp, health camp and a cleaning drive. Please reach out to Sudhir for more details on the events and ways to get involved. We wish him luck in his future endeavors and hope that Sudhir’s work can inspire many of us around.
CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME
There’s a bakery shop near to our house. Often, on my way back home in the evening, I buy some stuff for the morning breakfast. Today, as I was about to leave the bakery, I met our neighbour Mr. Ajay who himself was leaving the same shop. After the exchange of some traditional greetings, the conversation went like following.
I asked: “What have you bought?”
Ajay replied: “Nothing much , just some patties and some sweetmeats for my wife and children”.
Jokingly, I enquired, “Why so? Hasn't your wife cooked today?”
He said: “No, it’s not like that. Actually today in office we were a little hungry so my colleagues ordered some patties and sweetmeats. Since, I had this at the office I thought to buy some for my family too. It’s not fair that I eat whatever I like at the office while my kids and wife remain bound to eat whatever is cooked at home.”
Confounded with great surprise, I stared at him because I never thought this way before.
I said: “What’s the big deal, ajay? If you eat food of your own choice at the office, your wife and children would also be having whatever they like to eat at home.”
Ajay replied: “Not at all, My wife saves for me from everything there is. Even if someone from neighborhood sends something, my wife first saves some for me and then distributes it among my kids. It would be very selfish if I just enjoy good things with my friends and not with my family.”
Amazed upon hearing this I said: “Enjoying? This bakery stuff is what you think is enjoyment?”
He said: “Whatever ! I dread the time when on the Day of Resurrection I’ll be questioned about this. That I took someone’s daughter into marriage and had fun with my friends while she ate whatever little was available.”
Completely stunned, I couldn’t move my eyes off him while he continued.
“Look, when we get married to someone’s sister or daughter, they are human beings as well. Just like us. They too have hunger needs. They have their desires as well. They too wish to taste lots of delicious foods or foods of their choice, to try different kinds of lovely outfits. They also want to move and travel around. Keeping them caged like a bird, providing them meals twice a day and having a sense of smugness for doing all this is selfishness. And the way we treat the daughters of others is the way our own daughters and sisters will be treated because what goes around comes around.”
His last words shook me to a great degree. I never thought like this before. Concluding the conversation with Ajay I said, “Great! You have made me think from a different perspective.”
I turned back to the shop.
Ajay: “Where are you going?”
I replied, “To buy some ice-cream…actually I had some ice-cream at the office today.”
Ajay and Myself took their respective paths. Ajay was glad to have a positive impact on me. On the other hand, I now, knew how to keep my wife and kids happy and acknowledge all the efforts my wife does for my happiness.
Wives are what makes life beautiful!
*_No wonder they are called the better half_*
