Sea Eagle ~ Sunshine Beach Surf Life Saving Club ~ 7 December 2016 Page | 1 FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK With another successful “Ten Grand in Hand” event now in the rear vision mirror, our focus shifts onto our club’s other major fundraising initiative the “Party, Pamper, Play” Raffle. The “Party, Pamper, Play” Raffle which was formerly known as the old “Beer for a Year”, serves as a huge fundraising drive to assist with all the necessary gear and equipment that comes with running our club. All funds contributed support our Volunteer Lifesaving Program which includes our patrols, nippers, surf sports and youth & cadet programs. The club has focused heavily on achieving a one club approach to all facets of fundraising and sponsorships. As I often say to people, our patrolling ranks are made up of 85% of Nipper families and 75% of Surf Sports families, so the percentages suggest that the greater majority of our clubbies are involved in every facet of the club in some way. So with this in mind, we task our two largest respective sections being Nippers and Surf Sports with coordinating fundraising based on the size of the event and helpers. The Ten Grand Raffle as our major event calls on our Nipper contingent to run and coordinate due in number of helpers needed, and it’s also a great way for new families and parents to become involved with our signature fundraiser which is also fun to be a part of. The “Party, Pamper, Play” Raffle being our other major fundraiser calls on our Surf Sports section to take up the running of this event, with all competitors and their families from U/11-Masters ranks asked to pitch in and help sell our tickets. The plan this year is to sell 6000 tickets at $5 per ticket… Yep, that’s a $30,000 fundraiser which is a huge coup for the club. Sounds like a lot or tickets hey? Therefore we ask all our 60 competitors and their families to take 100 tickets each, and sell these over the Xmas period with the raffle to be drawn on the Australia Day weekend. Now, I know you’re probably sitting there thinking “LawZee is a muppet, 100 tickets per competitor/family”…. Actually, you’re probably sitting thinking I’m a muppet regardless, but anyway! Well sports fans, I’m here to tell you that if I can sell 100 over a weekend at work, then it’s easy. I’ve seen our ticket sellers in the past sell 100 tickets in a couple of hours at the club during the busy Xmas trade, so let’s fire up and do this people!!!! To quote one of the greatest figures of our time, “ASK NOT WHAT YOUR CLUB CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CLUB”!!! Our Director of Surf Sports Dan Moore, along with his trusty support crew of Bryan O’Connor and Peter Brewer will be putting together a roster with your help urgently, so please avail to help sell a few, it’s not hard and it goes a long way to helping those who help you! Unity is Strength! Craig Law

FIRST AID CORNER

Dear Santa, What I would like for Christmas is at least a month without having to fix an oxygen bottle. Please remind everyone that only ART-qualified members should be doing pre-patrol checks and let them know that anyone who would like a refresher only needs to ask. Thanks, Jane PS: I am still waiting for George Clooney

NIPPERS (Junior Activities)

One more Nippers before Christmas! And it will be a special one!! We will have a special visitor after Nippers this week, one guess who?! To make sure that your child doesn't miss out on a present, please leave one up to the value of $10 at Club reception before Saturday. You can also leave one for any siblings that will be there, we don't want anyone to miss out. We will celebrate with a sausage sizzle for the kids also. Due to these celebrations please allow extra time for Nippers this Sunday. Let’s hope our stunning Sunday conditions continue for this week, we certainly can't complain about that! SURF SPORTS

Thanks everyone who came down to Alex from the u14s to opens and competed on Saturday. This carnival whilst small was a great hit out with lots of racing. We had some amazing results and plenty of laughs. Great to see Tom O, Olivia and Talisa race on the ski and even better to see Mia hang up the goggles for a race on the paddle board. Nick Sloman powered in the swim and combined with Ryan and Tom O in the ski relay. Our u14/15 raced well with the under14s of Amelia, Tiffany, Liam, Carl, Hamish and Sam O stepping it up with Max S, Zac, Flynn, Max M, Sophie, Jess and Ruby. Awesome to see Zac “Spud" Brewer made a comeback to the competitive arena to paddle his way to a podium finish in the board. It was great to hear Amber Dods place 5th at the Australian surfing titles at Phillip Island last week. She is a great member from a great family that has and still contributes to our club on the beach. Well done Amber. Best of luck to the juniors about to attempt Hell week. Clint has set up a coaching plan for next week also for our U15 to seniors that will involve a full week of training and skills. Finally all surf sports competitors from u11 to masters will be required to sell a quantity of Party Pamper Play raffle tickets over the holidays both at the club and selling assigned tickets. It is important to note that we are sharing fundraising activities across all areas of our Club so please play your part in supporting this raffle. A roster will be drawn up in coming days with times and dates to sell tickets at the Club every day of the holidays until the draw on Australia Day. This is a major fundraiser for the Club and requires effort from everyone so please ensure that you attend the times you are rostered on or find an appropriate substitute. I am sure you will see the benefit. Our Surf lifesaving development programme is not cheap to run and requires a commitment from everyone involved from competitors to parents. Please contact Terri [email protected] if you are going to be away between 10th Dec and the 22nd Jan with the dates you are away please so we don’t roster you on whilst you are away. Cheers Dan Moore Director of Surf Sports

SPONSORS SPOTLIGHT

PALMLAKE RESORT COOROY NOOSA

Congratulations to our sponsors and the team at PalmLake Resort Cooroy Noosa for the grand opening of their resort and clubhouse on Saturday 26 November, with the official opening by Mayor Tony Wellington. Hundreds of locals attended the opening and were amazed by the fantastic facilities on offer including state of the art gyms, bowling alley, indoor and outdoor pools, games rooms, magnificent dining and lounge facilities, fully equipped cinema and more.

With several display homes open to view, patrons were also treated to a glimpse of what living life at PalmLake Cooroy Noosa would be like, and with great sales enquiry on the day the event was a great success, according to PalmLake Marketing Manager Marlene Cumming.

Adding to the flavour of the day were some of our Sunshine Beach Lifesavers: Jarrad, Tom, Mia and Talisa were patrolling the pool areas and on hand to ensure none of the Invited guests got into any trouble in the water.

To find out more about PalmLake Cooroy please visit their website www.palmlakeresort.com.au
