From the President Nancy Edwards I want to first Thank You for the opportunity to serve as your President for the past year. During my time as an officer at PSAA, we implemented some new changes. But probably the most enjoyable part of being your President is seeing all the wonderful things members and volunteers can create in our one room historical building. We have a wealth of knowledge and spirit within our Association. And at times blending the old with the new can be difficult. Yet, with an open mind and heart…we can all learn from one another and make the necessary changes. Our members are more than just art colleagues, but friends…and often family. Pine Shores is a place you can come, hang out with like minds that speak “our language”. Each of you possesses a very special gift. The ability to think outside the box, see colors, textures and the more intimate details in an object which many folks do not see or even care about. Share this special gift whenever you can. Send a homemade card, help a little one learn to draw, color with your children or grandkids. Your enthusiasm will speak volumes to them, as well as expose them to the Gift of Art! From the President Nancy Edwards

I want to first Thank You for the opportunity to serve as your President for the past year.

Nancy

During the past year, we implemented some new changes. To start, we moved our registration system online, making it easier for both the members to renew their memberships and register for classes. This is much more efficient for the volunteers needing to keep track of all the records. We still offer paper registration, but encourage our membership to use the online system.

In addition, we purchased new stools and chairs for classes. And through researching purchases for non-profits, we were able to buy computer-publishing programs at an extremely low cost.

Developing committees to work on the day-to-day jobs to keep PSAA running smoothly was another endeavor. At this point our Gallery Committee and Education Committee are up and running extremely well. The next focus will be to engage members to step up and serve on the Communications and Membership Committees. If you are someone who has writing abilities, computer graphic experience, likes to take pictures…the Publicity/Communications Committee needs your help. If you like to plan activities, welcome new members, or have the ability to input paper registrations into the computer…the Membership Committee could be a place for you. Working together on these projects makes the jobs much more fun. It’s amazing what all our creative minds can conquer together!

Our Patron Show was another big success, as well as the many classes, gallery exhibits, trips and library lecturers. Our drop-in sessions continue to support other artists in helping them grow and build friendship at PSAA. Our “Getting to Know You” and “Holiday” events created many happy faces, as well as new members stepping up to offer volunteer time. POPS volunteers continue to facilitate art in nursing facilities. In December, members donated supplies and money to the ArtSacks for children in need. New ornaments were made for our tree and homemade holiday cards for our active duty and recovering service men. WE ARE PINE SHORES!

(to be appointed)

Some Highlights from Our Education Program Foundation Lectures: Our Foundations in Art lectures offered a one-day overview of various concepts in design, technique, etc. These classes, at a low price of $20 filled a number of Saturdays and were successful enough to earn a return spot on the 2019 calendar.

Some of the comments on these classes include “this class is like getting a mini college course in design”; “…loved how this class filled in some of my art education gaps. Now I will know what the instructors are talking about when I take a painting class.”

Beginner Classes with Supplies: We offered Beginner classes with a modest supply fee so students would not have to buy $100 worth of supplies before knowing if they liked the medium. Most comments were similar to this one “Great class and loved that I got to try it out before digging into my wallet.”

Tom Lynch Workshop: Tom is an Internationally known watercolor artist. He played to a packed house at PSAA in April for a three-day workshop and an evening lecture on how to improve your old paintings. Other regional artists Mick McAndrews (watercolor), Jeri Greenberg (pastel), and Mark Saenger (oil and acrylic) made their debuts at PSAA to fully enrolled classes and all are returning again next year.

Arts Business Institute Seminar – September 2018: We offered for the first-time a professional development workshop for selling artists, which were attended by 35 artists and makers. Some came from as far away as California, Maryland and Virginia. The 2-day seminar spawned the formation of an Art Business Salon in South

Ocean County, which will have its first exhibition and sale in April. Artsy Shark Carolyn Edlund led the workshop, which covered a wide range of topics for artists early in their selling careers.

Barbara Jaenicke – Bend Oregon: In November former NJ artist, Barbara Jeanicke (pastel) returned to PSAA to do a three-day weekend workshop with 19 students (our maximum capacity).

Many Wishes for a Happy, Healthy 2019!
