From the President

March passed in a flash, and here we are in mid-April.

The Convention in Queenstown, New Zealand was a resounding success, with over

one hundred attendees. Alan Breen and Julie South did an unbelievably wonderful

job in putting together one of the most memorable Conventions. We met some of

our familiar Comanche friends, and so many new ones. Deana and I enjoyed it so

much, we were sorry when it was finally over. After the Convention we flew to

Sydney, Australia for a few days. Sydney is such a fantastic city, that we quickly

realized a few days just aren’t enough. Nonetheless the vacation days were winding

down and we had to return home. I’ve included some pictures from our convention

and vacation (see below). Look for more Convention reports in an upcoming

Comanche Flyer issue.

Spring in the Northeast is flying time! N9400P has a fresh January annual, and is ready to go. Somehow

I’ve already put about forty hours on her since the annual. Wow, I flew more than I thought! I suppose I’ll

need to do another oil-change this week. And the season has just begun…. WOO HOO!!!

The Annual Elections are over. As always, Sally Williams did a great job as Elections Committee

Chairperson. All our officers were elected, our budget was approved, and our bylaws changes were

approved by a wide margin. Sally will publish the official results in the May issue of the Flyer. I would like

to thank all members who took the time to vote!

Many of our tribes are organizing trips, fly-ins and other activities. Be sure to join your fellow Comancheros

to meet your old friends, and make new ones. See the notices below, and check out the web links provided.

NE Tribe changes Fly-In schedule

For some time the Northeast Tribe has been trying to set up EAA Young Eagles flights at an ICS-NE fly-in.

This would give attending teenagers a chance to experience flight in one of our fine Comanches and perhaps

inspiring a future pilot. Each year Newport, NH’s Parlin Field holds Airport Day, an open house in late

August, inviting area residents to come and enjoy the airport environment. There is a pancake breakfast

provided by the local Boy Scouts, a static display of local warbirds and by the NH Air National Guard,

many fly-in aircraft, and a lunch of BBQ’d pork. As part of the activities the local pilot group, in

conjunction with EAA, provides Young Eagle flights. Young Eagle pilots must be EAA members, must

register through the EAA website (a 15-minute process), and complete a background check. See the EAA

website for details.

Parlin Field is one of our favorite NE Tribe

fly-in locations, with our annual fly-in

usually in June. This year we are moving our

fly-in to August 20 to be there for Airport

Day to offer our help. We may also be able

to participate in the Young Eagles flights.

For pilots who choose not to qualify there

may be opportunities for “not-so-young”

Eagle flights too.

To make this schedule change possible we

are moving our fly-in at Pittstown, NJ’s Sky

Manor Airport (N40) from August 13 to

June 11 and the Parlin, NH fly-in (2B3) from June 11 to August 20. As in the past, our August fly-in will

also be our Tribe elections meeting. For complete details on these and other NE Tribe fly-ins go to our ICS-

NE_FlyinSchedule web page.

ENews request from the Editor

This newsletter is an attempt to share Comanche happenings with the full ICS membership. This can only

happen with your input.

Tribe Chiefs, please send information about activities that you would like to publicize, or reviews of

completed activities. Pictures can be worth a thousand words.

Mechanics, send in your tricks to accomplish those little, or not so little tasks required to keep our

Comanches flying.

Members, send in your favorite Comanche activities, places you would like to fly to again, or other

stories of general interest. Again, pictures are most welcome.

Send communications to me at [email protected]. If there are questions, call me at 401-636-1046. With

all of your help we can breathe new life into this ol’ ICS organization.

Everyone please continue to support our Comanche Flyer advertisers. See them listed on the ICS website.
