A part of me will be sad to have our Lenten season end this month. I’ve enjoyed our guest speakers and musicians and the wisdom and beauty they’ve graced us with. I’ve felt the power of community as we gathered for shared meals and sung Holden Evening Prayer together. But I’m ready for the promise of Easter to be proclaimed from our Sanctuary once again: He is risen! He is risen indeed - Alleluia!

Lent Schedule

In this midst of this turbulent and anxious world, we find a home in our welcoming God who claims us as beloved and calls us to be beacons of hope, grace, and justice. This Lent we have been exploring stories of coming home to God. Join us for these last few weeks of the Lenten season! At our Wednesday Holden Evening Prayer services, we are excited to invite special preachers and musical guests to share their own experiences of what coming home to God means to them - through experiences of grief, doubt, struggle, joy, and renewal. Holden Evening Prayer is at 7pm in the Sanctuary. Soup Supper is at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall for a free-will donation. All proceeds from the meal will go to Keystone Community Services. April Lenten Guest Speakers and Musicians: April 3 - Joe Davis & members of the Poetic Diaspora, a blend of hip hop, R&B, funk, and soul which tells stories of struggle, resilience, and celebration. April 10 - Jon Bates & Catherine Carson, violin, soloist from Bloomington Symphony Orchestra.

Growing Through Loss – Support for Those Experiencing Loss in their Lives Growing Through Loss is a grief and loss support ministry jointly sponsored by the North Suburban Grief Support Coalition, of which 19 churches and organizations in our area are members. The spring series will be held on Tuesday evenings, April 16th through May 21st from 6:45 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 8211 Red Oak Drive, in Mounds View. Each session offers an educational presentation by a professional from the community, followed by peer support groups facilitated by leaders who understand the grieving process. Each session is complete in itself, so you may attend any or all sessions. Registration takes place the evening before each session. There is no cost, although donations are welcome. Free childcare is available, but please call a week in advance so they are prepared for your children. You may call 763-755-5335 or visit www.growingthroughloss.org for more information.

CHILDREN, YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRY NEWS

Education Hour Sunday School for all ages is held between worship services (10:00 - 10:50 a.m.) until May 19. No class on Easter — April 21. Highlighting this Month:

AGES 0-2 | During snack time, our youngest learners choose a book to be read to them, and hear about the God who loves them. We intentionally have music in the background with Bible truths for young hearts and minds while we play.

AGES 3-5 | In March and April, toddlers are learning about “Observing Lent with Your Family” as they interact with the stories of the prodigal son, forgiving father, two debtors, last supper, Jesus in the garden, Jesus enter Jerusalem (Palm Sunday), etc.

Intergenerational Relationships

The Congregational Survey, Listening Event and InterServe Assessment all point towards a desire for intentionality in creating and strengthening intergenerational relationships.

P A G E 5

The Youth & Education Committees crafted a new inter-generational experience launching this summer.

St. Mike’s Summer Mondays (SM2)

St Mike's Summer Mondays' (SM2 ) purpose is to create intentional opportunities and interactions for children, youth and adults at St. Michael's to get to know each other and build relationships through camp-like activities and shared experiences.

Families with and without children can register as a family for $10 for whole the summer. Registration for SM2 starts in April and includes dinner. Each individual, couple or family is placed into inter-generational groups who stay together all summer to gather (games and activities), nurture (story, worship and meal), and send (takeaways to do as a family).

St. Mike's Summer Mondays (SM2 ) meets 5:30-6:55 p.m. outdoors east of the church (Fellowship Hall if it's raining). This summer's theme is "Let us love..." based on 1 John 4:7-8. SAVE THE DATES:

Monday, June 10 – Love the Earth | Dinner: Burgers, Hot Dogs, Veggie Patties

Monday, July 15 – Love Yourself | Dinner: Taco Salad

Monday, July 29 – Love your Church | Dinner: Meat & Veggie Kabobs

Monday, August 12 – Love your Neighbor | Dinner: Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad

To learn how you can help, or for more information about anything regarding children, youth and family ministry, please email Jon at [email protected] NEED NON-PARENTS

Research reveals more than any single program or event, kids are far more likely to feel like a significant part of their local church when adults made the effort to get to know them. For non-parents, consider trying to:

Use the tool in the pews to welcome children in worship.

Ask a student (include parents) to usher or lector with you. Check with parents about inviting a high school student to connect with you based on a mutual interest—gardening, cooking, knitting, auto repair, etc.

We need 2 non-parents on Sunday mornings this summer in the nursery monthly. We train and equip you!

A primary reason we do events is to intentionally offer space to interact and establish relationships with adults (you) and peers! We need non-parents to participate in events in April, May (see opposite page) and July (driving kids to camp). We'll equip you with how to initiate conversations and engage students at

their developmental social level. These opportunities for casual conversations and teachable moments have lasting spiritual implications.

Youth Mission Trip Meeting April 7th at 12:30 pm in the Courtyard Room.

Youth attending the mission trip should bring at least one parent or adult. Information and signups for the Easter Breakfast will also be available!

Confirmation News—Soup Suppers Each year, the confirmation students help prepare, serve, and clean up the soup supper. This act of service provides hospitality for our members and guests, and is an opportunity for the youth to take on leadership in the congregation. Without the service of the confirmation class, Lenten soup suppers would not be possible! Soup suppers continue through April 10th. We ask that each confirmation student bring a parent or adult to help. If you are unable to serve with your child, this is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your student’s mentor to see if they are available to work with your child. Please arrive by 5pm each Wednesday. Once preparations are complete, youth and their parents are invited to eat before serving at 6 pm. Youth will help clean up the kitchen, serving area, and fellowship hall prior to worship at 7 pm. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your service this Lent!

Eno on February 28th. Please keep the Eno family in your prayers as they grow!

Thank you from Rezek House! Thank you for your recent donations to the Rezek House Youth Homeless Shelter! We were able to provide an abundance of cleaning supplies and home necessities for the youth residents. Your donations of mops, brooms, dusters, rugs, shower curtains, paper towels, cleaning sprays, dish soap, and utensils made their apartments feel like a home! Thank you!
