20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends,

On August 8, the Pastoral Council and the Finance Council met

in joint session to discuss the budget for the coming year. We

began by praying for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and I

believe that God answered our prayers. I believe we all came

away from the meeting with an appreciation of how the Lord is

calling this community of St. Pius V and a renewed sense of

commitment. Each of the members of the Councils has

committed to a specific way of realizing that call.

On August 29th, the Councils will meet as sub-committees to

work on various projects and events which will help us on the

way. We invite you, who were called by Christ in Baptism, to

join us in this work. Bring your talents and gifts and a generous

heart. We need everyone and everything: prayer, ideas, sweat,

supportive presence. Come!

You can contact the chairperson for the sub-committee directly or

send an email with your contact information and someone will be

in touch with you. All of the sub-committees are bi-lingual, so

do not let language be a barrier.

Are you friendly and outgoing?

The Stewardship and Development sub-Committee works on

developing and strengthening the call to Stewardship in our

community and on fund-raising by donation.

Chair: Manuel Aguilar email:

[email protected]

Do you like designing or working with your hands?

The Projects sub-Committee is working on creating Plazas for the

Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, expanding the Church Plaza,

Chapel renovation, and development of the new property.

Chair: Alberto Betancourt email: [email protected]

Are you good at organizing parties? Are you talented at

organizing?

The Festivals sub-Committee works on developing our existing

community celebrations and creating new opportunities for

fellowship and parish support.

Chair: Arturo Gonzalez email: [email protected]

Are you good at sales or marketing?

The Bookstore sub-Committee is looking at how we can expand

access and availability for the bookstore to better serve our

parishioners and increase revenue for the parish.

Chair: Irma Morales email: [email protected]

Do you belong to Archdiocesan organizations or do you have

family and friends in other parishes?

The Partnership sub-Committee works on developing

partnerships with other parishes and diocesan and secular

organizations to realize common goals.

Chair: Fr. Joe Doran email: [email protected]

Do you have other talents, gifts, and interests?

Let the Lord lead you to one of these sub-Committees where He

can put you to work in His vineyard.

With generosity of heart, let us say "Yes" to the God who calls us

to Himself and to His work,

Fr. Joe

Alguien te va a contactar.

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Primera lectura Prv 9, 1-6

First Reading 1 Prv 9:1-6

Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns; she has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her

table. She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city: “Let whoever is simple turn in here; To the one who

lacks understanding, she says, Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed! Forsake foolishness that you may live;

advance in the way of understanding.”

Responsorial Psalm Ps 34 R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

Second Reading 2 Eph 5:15-20

Brothers and sisters: Watch carefully how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because

the days are evil.

Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. And do not get drunk on wine, in which

lies debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and playing to the

Lord in your hearts, giving thanks always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

Gospel Jn 6:51-58

Jesus said to the crowds: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread

that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life

within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food,

and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me

and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down

from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

Returning Catholics There will be an information meeting in the Church on Thursday Sept. 3, at 7:30 PM, for anyone who would like to return to the sacra-

ment of Holy Communion. If you have been wondering if you might be able to return to communion and fully participate in the life of

Christ and his Church, we invite you to attend this meeting and get the information you need to know. Please fill out the form below and

drop it in the collection or you may give them to me at the rear of the church after mass.
