Welcome to Round 4, and our final split round for the year. 2 matches feature in the first week, with a grand final rematch taking place at Phillip Island on Easter Saturday. The Doggies will head into this one as favourites after an undefeated start to the year, but write off Koo Wee Rup at your own risk as they still boast a strong list and should be keen to bounce back from their loss to Cora Lynn last weekend. The other match this weekend is a battle of the birds in South Gippy, with Dalyston travelling to Inverloch. Inaccuracy in front of goal cost Dalyston last weekend against Nar Nar Goon and if they can make the most of their chances, expect them to push Inverloch for the 4 points. The following week sees the competitions two newest teams Tooradin Dalmore and Warragul

Industrials face off for the first time on ANZAC Day. While winless in 2019, the Dusties has steadily improved over their first 3 games and will want to make a statement on the big stage as the Gulls will look to continue their winning ways after a strong performance over Kilcunda Bass last weekend. The second Saturday of the round allows Dalyston to play their catch up match for their round 1 bye against Kilcunda Bass. Inverloch host Korumburra Bena as their catch up for the round 1 bye, Nar Nar Goon take on Cora Lynn, while cross town rivals Garfield and Bunyip go head to head.Good luck to all teams taking the field or courts in the coming two weeks, we hope all have a happy and safe Easter and ANZAC Day break.

Round 3 Report Round 3 ReportWarragul Industrials coach Stephen Ryan knows he’s heading up a long-term project, but that doesn’t mean results like Saturday’s narrow defeat to Korumburra Bena don’t hurt. The Dusties started brightly and had their chances at Korumburra Showgrounds, registering more scoring shots and enjoying their share of the play, only to let themselves down with a sloppy second term and they ultimately fell short 13.3 (81) to 10.9 (69).

“The ones you can win are more disappointing than the ones you can’t,” Ryan said.

“We should have been in front at half-time but our second quarter let us down. After such a good first quarter we relaxed a bit and let them get away from us.

“If we played the way we did against Bunyip the week before we might have won.”The second half was an arm wrestle, with the visitors getting within a kick midway through the third term, before a goal from Jamie Cann on the stroke of three-quarter-time gave the Giants some breathing space.Ryan used his final address to warn his troops to keep their heads in the last term but ill-discipline proved costly as a 50m penalty broke the visitors’ momentum at the wrong time and the Giants regained control to run out the game.Josh Hill was named Korumburra Bena’s best, with his overhead and intercept marking a feature throughout the second half, time and again thwarting Dusties attacks.Brad Monson and Bailey Patterson (two goals) were also prominent for the home side.Shane Brewster was a clear standout for the Dusties, managing four goals while also taking on plenty of the grunt work in the middle of the ground.

“He’s really stepped up and he had to with the young blokes around him. He has to work harder and can’t push forward like he wants to, but he’s been willing to do that,” Ryan said.Tyson Bale and Russell Ware were others to catch the eye, while Cooper Minichiello impressed at centre-half-forward, in a role he’s still learning on the job. It was the club’s most competitive showing so far, following a goalless performance against Garfield

and a 40-point loss to Bunyip, and while Ryan was pleased with the endeavour, he said matching the quicker ball movement of the teams around them was the next step.

“I’ve been impressed with the pressure we’re putting on and the way they’ve attacked the footy but we’ve got to clean up our skills,” he said.

“The guys have got some belief now and we’ve got better each game.

“It’s frustrating for supporters but if the players continue to show effort, we can’t ask for more than that and if I continue to see improvement in individuals and as a team then we know we’re on the right track.”Over on the netball courts, the Giants steadily built their lead in every quarter, before eventually winning 63-48.Chloe Hogg led the way for the Giants with 39 goals, with Kimberly Hillberg adding 24, while Ella Spencer and Lara Commadeur – in her 150th club game – scored 24 each for the Dusties.

Kilcunda Bass v Tooradin DalmoreAndrew Dean took centre stage with a season-high haul of eight goals in Tooradin Dalmore’s 23.15 (153) to 3.7 (25) victory away to Kilcunda Bass.Nicholas Lang added six and Julian Suarez three as the Seagulls continued to adapt to their new surroundings and their attack edged ever closer to firing on all cylinders.Eighteen-year-old Bradley Butler made his senior debut and impressed enough to be named Tooradin Dalmore’s best, with Dylan Wilson and the two main goalkickers next in line.Connor Steel, Sam Watson and Tom West battled hard for the Panthers. The Seagulls made light work of the Panthers on the netball courts, winning 71-10.

Bunyip v Inverloch KongwakEfficiency proved the difference at Bunyip Recreation Reserve, where Inverloch Kongwak stormed to a 45-point win.Key forwards Toby Mahoney and Sam Gibbins booted three goals apiece, as the Sea Eagles made the most of their opportunities to claim the

points 16.5 (101) to 9.12 (66).The visitors started brightly and led by 27 points at the first change, but Bunyip fought back hard and could have been closer at the main break, registering three more scoring shots but trailing by 17 points. Lachlan Scott, Jack Hutchinson and Oscar Toussaint were among the best for the Sea Eagles, with Duncan Proud, Will Papley and Jeb McLeod the standouts for the Bulldogs.Inverloch Kongwak shaded a tight contest on the netball courts, 40-34.Meg Evans (24 goals) and Kasey Teakle (12) combined well in attack for the Sea Eagles to hold off a remarkable solo effort from Bulldogs goaler Claire Ablett, who accounted for 32 of the home side’s 34 goals for the match.

Phillip Island v Garfield After two away games to open their title defence, Phillip Island unfurled its premiership flag at Cowes Recreation Reserve ahead of a round three clash with Garfield. The Bulldogs were without hard nuts Zak Vernon and Brendan Kimber but regained a trio from their grand final side in Jaymie Youle, Alex Officer and Jordan Patullo and it proved plenty enough to overcome the Stars.Cam Pedersen (two goals) was the home side’s only multiple goal-kicker for the day, with Youle, Matt Wright and Eli Richards among the standouts in the 11.17 (83) to 4.5 (29) win.The returning Michael Wallace, Nick Macente and Joel Morgan were best for the visitors. The Stars put up a strong fight on the netball court, with Corinne Merrigan’s 29 goals not quite enough in the 61-40 defeat.Emma Felsovary fired in the absence of Kelly O’Neill, converting 44 shots to go with Claise Janssen’s 17 to pace the Island.

Dalyston v Nar Nar GoonDalyston’s A Grade side hoisted its premiership flag and saluted with an eight-goal victory against Nar Nar Goon.Jarney and Gemma Thomas starred with 30 goals and 15 respectively in the 45-37 win.

The Goon will take plenty of heart from their performance, having taken the game to the two-time reigning premiers, leading at quarter time and being within a goal and the final change.Hollie Keysers (20) and Olivia Cope (17) both contributed strongly.Unfortunately, a serious knee injury to star Magpies mid courter Hannah McRae took some of the shine off the occasion. The visitors took their share of the spoils over on the football ground.Troy McDermott got his season going with five goals in the 15.11 (101) to 4.12 (36) win.The Goon broke away early and never looked back, with Trent Armour, Damon Hansen and Trent Noy all in good form.Recruit Ryan Silver was good again for the Magpies, who were also well-served by Darcy Wilson and Harrison Wright.

Cora Lynn v Koo Wee RupCora Lynn rounded out the weekend with another impressive win under lights at the Cobra Dome, this time against Koo Wee Rup.Just as he did against Tooradin Dalmore in the season opener, Cobras forward Nathan Gardiner stood tall as the focal point in attack with seven goals in the 20.17 (137) to 10.11 (71) victory.Gardiner’s offsider Nathan Langley chimed in with five goals and Jai Rout three, with co-captain Chris Johnson, Lochie Peluso and the returning Jeremy Monckton all prominent. The Demons started brightly to lead at quarter-time, but a seven-goal-to-two second term left the visitors reeling and they were unable to find their way back into the game. Jason Wells played a lone hand up top for the Demons with seven goals, with Matt Voss, Nathan Voss and Cody Miller never giving up.The Demons were able to take some solace from a 41-31 win on the netball courts.Chantelle Smith (19 goals) Melissa Filarski (13) and Steph Broadway (nine) were effective in attack, while Tyla Redwood (19 goals) battled hard for the home side.

FOOTBALLLast week we hosted Inverloch and it turned out to be a perfect day for football. Our U16 got the day started but unfortunately went down to a well organised u16 side our boys played a great game of football a played it out right to the end.U18 started there game off the a flyer kicking ahead to gain a 5 goal lead at quarter time, with to early goal to us in the second the game looked like it was going to be a blow out but the inverloch credits they hit back and kicked the next 6 goals. The game was pretty much even until bunyip kicked away again in the last. Our reserve boys have got of the a great start this season being 3 and 0 and sitting 2nd on the ladder it’s great to see the culture of the club getting big numbers to training each week and it really having a impact on game day. The 2ndOur seniors came up against one of the main contenders this year and all though we came away with a loss there were a lot of positive signs moving forward. We were right in the game all day but it was our in accuracy in from of goal that really hurt us.Well done to Duncan Proud who was awarded BOG.I would like to thank Peter and all the Inverloch players and supporters for staying around for a chat and drink after the game. This week we look forward to the challenge of going down the road to take on our old rivals in Garfield.

NEtBALLBunyip Netball Clubs 2018 Hall of Fame Inductee - Chelsea Lieshout

Chelsea Lieshout was recently inducted into the Bunyip Netball Club's Hall of Fame at the completion of Season 2018. The induction into the Hall of Fame is a prestigious award and it was with great pleasure that we were able to imprint Chelsea’s name up on the board alongside other champions of our club. Chelsea’s dedication to the Bunyip Netball Club and most recently the Football Club has been phenomenal. Chelsea has and continues to umpire for the club on Saturday’s, coached junior grades, exceeded 150 senior games and been a talented and respected player in both junior and senior grades. This talent seen Chelsea win the WGFNL Best and Fairest award for B grade in 2018 and Runner up Best and Fairest for the club in 2018. These are only 2 recent accolades that I mention when I could take up the whole page with her achievements. Chelsea shows true grit, determination and wears her heart on her sleeve when it comes to wearing the Red, White and Blue and as a club we couldn’t be more proud of how far she has come from a little F Trooper to a significant player within the Senior Playing group and look forward to sharing many more successes with Chelsea both on and off the court in the years to come.

CORA LYNN CLUB NOTES

footballTHIS WEEKAnother big test for us this week against Nar Nar Goon. As a traditional rival we have always found them difficult opponents as they are a proud club. We wish all teams well.

LAST WEEKOur sponsors and life members day was a great success with the highlight of the day being the interview between Lado Alphonse and Terry Dillon about his time at the club and the positive affect the involvement of the Sudanese boys have had. Lado spoke of his time as a refugee and how his family was forced out of his country. The most poignant moment was when he said that the boys felt really safe and accepted in our club. This really hit home to the audience. It is no accident that he received a standing ovation at the end. We have twelve boys playing for us at the moment in our Juniors and Reserves. It won’t be long before some of these boys will be senior players with their natural athleticism. Special thanks to Michael Dillon for introducing the boys into our club. A great initiative.

SENIORSThis game was a danger game for us as Kooweerup beat us in every game last year. The difference this year was the fact we have been able to recruit some mature bodies to combat their strength around the football. Or mid field was the difference with Chris Johnson hitting some form and playing the type of game we know he is capable of. Lachie Peluso was persistent and laid more tackles than any other player on the ground. Our young guns in Jai Rout

and Heath Briggs are playing with confidence and Briggs especially is capable of breaking the lines. Jeremy Monckton was a stand out on the wing with his extraordinary pace and ability to break away from his opponents. Mitch Wallace was a strong defender and was able to utilise his strength in keeping the potent forward line of Kooweerup quiet. Nathan Gardiner again stood out with seven goals and Nathan Langley is relishing his new freedom with five goals. Overall a satisfying result for senior coach David Main and his team.

RESERVESThe Reserves tried hard but were outplayed by a very strong Kooweerup side. Corey Brook continued his great form in defence. Thomas Stiglich put in another strong game. Sean Wilson, Tom Arnett and Brendan Pullen all tried hard in another improved effort. The Reserves will continue to be competitive if they stick at it.

THIRDSJay Verhagen’s six goals capped off another good performance from this promising side. We welcomed back Bryce Font who kicked three goals and was one of our best. Daniel Vela, Lleyton Dunne, and Lachie Taylor were notable contributors to a great team effort.

FOURTHSSome promising signs from this up and coming side. The highlight was Steve Mortimer the coach coming back from illness. Best players were JamesClose, Lual Lual, Matthew Lothian Thompson, Cooper Newnham and Jack Edwards. Special thanks to Kooweerup for lending us some players.

CORA LYNN CLUB NOTES

netballU13’s were a little bit out of sync with each other this week. There were some poorly timed flat leads and our passing selection was not great - these things let us down a bit. But our footwork is improving and our defensive pressure was great which is what we’ve been working on. Best on courts went to our captains this week. BOC to Lexis for her defense effort in attack position and adjusting her game to our maneuver each opponent. BOC to Liv for dominating defensively in the ring, a strong presence through the middle and good sportsmanship. Encouragement Awards went to Shelby and Sienna.Under 15s had a strong focus on defensive pressure through the game – maximising within the first 3 quarters however failing to execute in the last. The girls held on with a 6 goal win and was great to see our heads held high amongst some uncontrollable situations on the court. Our goalers again displayed their strengths in movement of the ball and accuracy for the most part, defence in the circle again worked tirelessly to prevent goals – Best on went to Alahni for her persistence through the game, Jaimie again a 4 quarter strong game & Macky for strength in her rebounding and intercepts. Under 17s had a very slow start to the game! The defensive pressure was good but they girls just struggled to bring the ball down and into attack. The girls made a few silly mistakes throughout the game but they knew they had to knuckle down to finish off the game strong!! Going into the last quarter and down by a goal, the girls digged deep and come away with a 4

goal win. The last quarter was their best with many great passages of play and having full confidence in one another. Best on court went to Chloe for great drives and always keeping positive!C grade played a great team game. With a lapse in the 3rd qtr they allowed KWR to edge back the score but a strong last qtr capitalising on the great defensive pressure from Bonnie & Katrina saw them take the game by 8 goals. Final score CL 35 defeated KWR 27. Best: Katrina DiCarloB grade What a game of ups and downs. We started strong and fairly even up until half time going into the 3rd quarter with a 2 goal lead. The players really combined well in the 3rd quarter putting into practice what we have been working on at training. Going into the 4th quarter having an 11 goal lead we became a little complacent and started chasing the ball instead of sticking to our own game plan. B grade came away with the 4 points an a 1 goal win! It was a great effort to hold on in the end. Awards winners where Lou for her best game this season and a wonderful 4 quarters. And to Tyra for her adaptability in coming into the centre and providing drive and space on the court.A Grade hopefully learnt the lesson of getting of to a strong start. Spotting them 4 goals before we got on the board. We fought back in general play thanks to the intercepts from Bianca and body work and rebounds from Emily Brook and run from Karla Brook Bella Trezise and setting up from Gemma. We struggled to convert our opportunities. We matched Koo Wee Rup for 3 quarters and will need to lift to be competitive with Goon. Best Bianca Douglas.

footballWe welcomed Nar Nar Goon for our first home game of the season with the ground looking a picture The place is still a construction site and it was good to operate out of the new change rooms. Games were all played in the right spirit and it was good to see many Nar Nar Goon players and officials come up for a drink post game.

Fourths: The undermanned fourths were up against a pretty polished outfit and were comprehensively out played. The footy landscape is totally different these days as kids have to manage work and school commitments with playing footy. It makes it hard to get them prepared and on the park.

Best: Troy Alford, Tomi Brosnan, Beau Hull, Louis Armstrong, Tom Hitchings, Flynn Hodgetts

Thirds: Though it didn’t reflect that way on the scoreboard the thirds were pretty competitive for much of the day. With quite a few of the boys having already played a game it was hard to keep at it for the four quarters. Their tackling and pressure was good and they gave a good account of themselves.

Best: Ethan Dayson, Jarvis Kilgour, Emmet Dempsey, Alex Geyer, Luke Gheller, Shay Davis

Reserves: The twos were right in the contest until half time with Schrapey and Lucas Ion providing drive out of the middle. The steam ran out after the long break and they were over run in the second half.

Best: Kainen Schrape, Lucas Ion, Mark Roche, Ben Lewis, Jackson Brooker, Kyle Spinks

Seniors: The seniors are still getting to know each other and getting match fit. The blow out on the scoreboard was not a good indication of the contest and the boys played some very good footy. Capitalising up forward is a problem and we wasted plenty of opportunities to impact the scoreboard.

Best: Ryan Silver, Darcy Wilson, Harry Wright, Corey Wakefield, Flynn Brosnan

Today we travel to Inverloch and front what should be a big crowd. We have to keep at it and stay honest.

Social: The Olympic Bus Tour last week was a hit and was a great way to introduce new players to the Club. Next Saturday April 27 will be the annual Ladies Day so frock up girls. It will also see the first of the Past Players functions for the year.

Netball

What was otherwise a great day for the netballers was soured by the serious knee injury to young gun Hannah McRae. Hannah is a terrific person and a real talent and we wish her all the best in her recovery. This bunch of girls sticks very tight and will regroup and support Hannah.

Though we were successful in all grades the girls are still getting match fit and finding some form.

It’s always great to be unfurling premiership flags and recognise stalwarts of the club. A and B Grade Premierships in 2018 was a massive achievement and testament to how strong the Daly Netball Club is. It was also nice to recognise Julie Pigdon and Val McRae for their great service to the club.

Garfield CLUB NOTES

netballWHAT A BEGINNING!How fantastic has this seasons start been! I know, I know, it's not straight wins across the board just yet but we are a building team and we are off to a sensationally sparkly beginning for 2019!

After just 3 rounds with our Saturday teams we have had fantastic wins in Under 13's, Under 17's, C Grade and B Grade! But it's not just the wins that have our stars smiling, it's the massive improvements to EVERY team, the volunteer efforts from folks involved in every level and the brilliant sponsorships helping our community club shine brighter.

Together we’re turning up the brightness and are working to grow, improve and succeed. It’s clear that we’re all a team, we’re all here for the club and this year we’re aiming high with positive changes!

It’s exciting, it’s real and it’s an effort to be proud of.

We are the Garfield Stars, and together we shine brighter.

FOOTBALLAfter a week off the players are refreshed after a tough week last game. The reserves kicked the day off in reasonable style during a relatively even first quarter. However, after the first break it was all one-way traffic, with Tooradin asserting their dominance all over the ground, with some quality players in their line-up, in site the boys would’ve learnt a lot throughout the match. In the main game it was a similar story. Tooradin dominated all over the ground from the first bounce. Winning clearance after the clearance our defenders had a tough time stopping the Seagulls attack. No matter what coach Dimma tried nothing seemed to work. We look to put this one behind us and bounce back against traditional rivals Daly in what is hopefully a cracking game of footy.

netballA Grade – Tough game on the weekend for killy bass. We tried a few different combinations but unfortunately tooradin were just a bit too good in the end. Well done girls for staying positive for the whole game and giving it 100% until the end. Best on - Tanita Bow. B Grade – We had a tough day against an extremely well drilled side. Tooradin had us working hard from the moment the 1st whistle went. But the B grade girls worked hard to keep their heads up and concentrate on some team goals, set at training. With a couple of outs and an injured bench the 7 girls fought hard to try to reach their team goals. I have taken a lot from this game and could see the areas of improvement,

as well the areas we need to work on. To our B grade girls, we’ll put this one down as a learning match and move forward from here”. KB B grade has a lot of potential with a few young ones still settling in, and a bit of team bonding in order, I am confident that a win is not far away. Best on went to Rhiannon for her voice throughout the game, usually a challenge for Rhiannon she stood up this week in a very challenging match. Well done. C Grade - Excitement was high for the opening of Kilcunda Bass’s new courts. The c grade girls took the court positive and strong, with a great first quarter. Unfortunately, Tooradin were too strong on the day and we were not able to keep up the intensity. The girls held their head high putting in a solid last term, showing a never give up attitude. Best on - Shez O’Brien.U17 - The U17's came out firing against the strong Tooradin side. Being down by only one goal at the end of the first quarter, excitement was in the air. Unfortunately, the Tooradin girls' composure and movement down the court increased the margin, giving our KB girls a big challenge. Although the score in the end was not in our favour, the KB girls showed determination, sportsmanship and strength. Best on - Georgia Dakin and Ruby Gage.U15 - 15’s put on a super impressive show on Saturday. Tooradin got the jump in the first quarter, but we managed to match them in the second quarter. The last half Tooradin slightly had the edge over us. Bit of belief and the 15’s have a win heading their way Best on court was Georgia Dakin U13 - 13’s fought hard against a strong and composed side in Tooradin. Deservingly so Tilia Perez/Anderson received best on court, never gave up and came up with the ball on endless occasions.

KILCUNDA-BASS CLUB NOTES

FOOTBALLLast week our fourths started of the day with another fine win. It is great to see them wining & enjoying their football after a lean few years. Lewie & Campbell have them playing an exciting brand of football. Unfortunately Albie Eberbach broke his thumb & also damaged a tendon that will more than likely need surgery so we wish him all the best with his recovery. The thirds ran out on Saturday with 10 players & had to be topped up with fourths kids. The club would like to thank Josh Williams, Jenson Garnham, Alex Muir, Mitch Hewitson, Jacob Strickland, Bryce Chizzoniti, Albie Eberbach, Jim Soumilas, Malachy O’Flynn, Will Edwards & Oscar Beaton for putting their hand up to help out the thirds. Unfortunately they lost but they didn’t go down without a fight & the fourths kids acquitted themselves very well. The reserves were also short on numbers & went down by 6 goals. Hopefully from today our numbers will improve so that they can get back on the winning list. Our seniors had a hard fought out win that took its toll on a lot of our players. Unfortunately Xavier Hughes broke his ankle & will have it in plaster for around 8 weeks so we also wish him well with his recovery. Today we welcome Dalyston and invite them into the rooms after the game today for a refreshment. Our players will be wearing black armbands today in honour of three of our past players that have passed away in the off season, Mocca Parker ( Life Member, Premiership player, Best & Fairest, President, Coach ) Calvin Logan ( Premiership player ) & Maurie Cargill ( Life Member, President, Best & Fairest, Premiership Player ). We will also be having a minutes silence to remember our Anzacs prior to the start of the Seniors Game.

footballThirds

Another hit out at the Showgrounds for the third week in a row, saw the Dusties team come to play. They got the jump on the Giants early to set the scene. The Giants worked into the game and started teaming together, making the play which got them back in the game at the last change. In the last quarter the game was up for grabs with the Dusties getting on top by 11 in the end as the Giants lost focus on the prize with some undisciplined acts. Thanks again to the fourths boys stepping up to cover injuries and players unavailable - you boys are setting the standard.

Time now to regroup Giants, let’s get everyone back on the park after the Easter break working together as one and success will come our way.

Best - Jay Walker, Joel Cuman, Luke Walker, Sean Villasevil , Will Little, Colin Terry

Reserves

After two very tough opening rounds we hosted Warragul Industrials at the The

KORUMBURRA-BENA CLUB NOTESShowgrounds. Great effort by the boys. The Senior coach showed what good footy and good club spirit can do. The 4 Harris boys played their first game together and showed what hard running and tackling can do. The rest of the boys lifted and we got a well deserved win.

Seniors

Great conditions for football greeted us last Saturday as we took on Warragul Industrials for the first time since their transition into the league. With both sides looking for their first win of the year it was always going to be a tight tussle and we weren’t disappointed!

Both sides fought hard throughout the day and fortunately our young Giants found enough in the end to record a two goal win. This was great reward for the boys after a tough start to the season.

Congratulations to Tyler Newton who played his first senior game for the club.

We look forward to this weeks challenge in Inverloch.

netball13 & UNDERWe had a great versatile team today! Congratulations girls on embracing some new positions that you may not normally play. We also focused on reducing our stepping and obstructing. Enjoy your Easter break. Go Giants!Final Score: Korumburra- Bena 48 defeated Warragul Industrials 4AWARDS: Bella Morrison & Ella Cuman

15 & UNDEROnce again we started slowly, allowing the opposition to get a start on us. We welcomed Jazz back into the side after a 9 week leadership camp. With a few positional changes we fought back to win the next three quarters. It was pleasing to see what we have been working on at training used on the court. Hope everyone had a great Easter and enjoyed their week off. Lets get the win today, go Giants!Final Score: Korumburra-Bena 21 defeated by Warragul Industrials 22AWARDS: Felicity Fox & Kelsey Donohue

17 & UNDERIt was great to see how versatile our 17’s are. Lots of different combinations, all performed very well. Goalers shot accurately while mid court and defenders were able to get hands to many balls, creating the turnovers. Keep up the good work!Final Score: Korumburra Bena 69 defeated Warragul Industrials 8AWARDS: Erin Trewin & Zoe Patterson.

C GRADEWell done to the girls today, we put up a good fight against a well polished team! Today we went in to the game a little unsettled with players coming back from injuries and a few U17’s filling spots where we were short. Huge congrats to Ellie and Zoe playing their first game in seniors and Darci for running the centre. Well done to all!Final Score: Korumburra Bena 28 defeated by Warragul Industrials 44AWARDS: Zoe Patterson & Amy White

B GRADEWe played a solid three quarters today but unfortunately couldn’t contain it for the last. We have many opportunities but couldn’t capitalize, however not a bad result with a completely new side. Enjoy the week off. Final score: Korumburra- Bena 38 defeated by Warragul Industrials 48 AWARDS: Amy White & Zoe Archer

A GRADEGreat conditions for fast, competitive netball. The ball moved fast for both teams but Giants were able to steal some loose balls and with accurate shooting capitalized on them. Great team effort girls. Well done to Jess Drazzi for playing up again. Keep up the good work!! FOOTBALLIt is going to be a massive day of football at NNG today against local rivals in Cora Lynn who are travelling very nicely this season. We expect tough games in all grades as usual and the senior game will be a great test for and the Cunningham Cup is up for grabs so we will be keen to hold onto it after last year’s win.

We also have our 2009 Reserves and 1989 U15s Premiership reunions and Past Players day on this week so it will be good to get some old faces back at the club. We hope you all have a great day catching up with mates and spending some time back at the Goon. Please stay around for the day and join us in the social rooms at half time in the senior game and after the game to let us remember your great achievement in those premiership years.

We still have a few $1000 Superdraw tickets available to purchase at $100 (see Mick Keane) as well as memberships and merchandise in stock (see Mark Brown). The new puffer vests have been a hit and you can have one for just $65, order now.

The major social function – The INXSIVE band night is not far away on June 8th at Gumbuya World function room, tickets are limited and are $35 each which includes finger food. To purchase your tickets go onto the link provided on our Facebook page.

Good luck to all teams today, Go Goon.

NETBALLRound 3 we headed to Dalyston and although we had some close games in B & C we were unable to come away with wins in any grades. Best of luck to the Dalyston player who injured her knee in the A Grade game.

B Grade: Best on court Jess Cox and Hannah Carney.

U13’s Best On: Jessica Beet

Round 4 we welcome CoraLyn to the home of the Goon. Good Luck to all grades.

FOOTBALLSeniorsIt was a lovely day to unveil the premiership flag for the first home game of the year. After a late change with Daniel Bourke out with illness, we found Alex Duyker in his paddock and boy hasn’t he enjoyed himself over the offseason.Jaymie Youle’s heartfelt speech got the boys up and about. Last year’s self-proclaimed “Grand Final Hero” Hayden Bruce, went touchless in the first quarter. Fan favourite Marcus Wright stood up and steered the boys back to a 4 goal lead. After copping abuse from the sidelines in the 1st half, Jack Taylor came out even worse in the 2nd, the crowd was really in his head. Cam “The Answer” Pedersen did what he pleased with a head wobble as he dominated the 3rd term. Coach Beau Vernon with a huge media following him around stepped in and got the boys up and about with the skipper Jaymie Youle having to leave early to catch a flight to Coachella to DJ the midnight set.The Doggies were without the inspirational hard nut Brendan Kimber fresh off a nose job turned to Brodie Brain’s heavy tekka’s beats on the hill to lift the side in the last quarter. After his breathing exercises at the 3rd quarter break Alexandrew Redmond came out snarling with pressure. Grand Final hero Hayden Bruce fresh from Richmond VFL attempted to put the game away before he went in for an early shower again!Billy Taylor (the better Taylor) held the family name in great regard through the second half, stopping Garfield and kicking true for a Phillip Island Bulldogs win.The Bulldogs ended up 10 goal winners.

ReservesThe Reserves had 6 new faces this week with the return of Nick Duyker, Lachlan Cleeland, Kevin Taylor (out of retirement) Andrew Tolley, Mitch Ryan and Caleb Thomas.

Garfield started strong with 5 goals in the 1st quarter and our boys fought back well to lead by 7 points at 3 quarter time. Garfield rallied in the last quarter to win by 3 goals.

U13’sFirst home game of the season and spectators were happy with the warm indoor seating. Garfield moved nicely through the midcourt but Sienna and Ruby's defence was too tough. Through our mid, Lara intercepted many passes and Charlotte was quickly there for the pickup. Lilly and Meika both with accurate shooting, gave Island a strong lead by half time. Coach Cath swapped positions around to develop the girls in attack and defence. With such a versatile team that adapts quickly it proved a good move. Maya's fast footwork from the Centre and Mia's passes gave more opportunity for Sienna and Ruby to drop goals. Scores: Island 40 def Garfield 16Awards: Sienna McFarlane & Lara Smyth

U15’sThe U15s first home game was always going to be exciting, the home crowd were all looking forward to getting around the girls. The first quarter kicked off well, with the girls all working together to get a lot of turnover which converted on the scoreboard to a great lead in the first half at 27 - 6. Throughout the game there were some beautiful passages of play with the ball transitioning well from our defenders through our mid court and down to our shooters. With lots of player rotation throughout the game, the girls always seemed to pull together as one working unit. The defensive work from all was outstanding and the ability to transition into attack quickly and with control was also a fantastic sight to see from such a young group of players. Scores: Island 51 def Garfield 10Awards: Amelie Wragg & Lily Huther

U17’sFor the first home game of the year, the Island girls came out strong against a fired up Garfield side. With only 4 players this week, we had plenty of fill INS, including 3 x U15’s players who stepped up to the challenge. Our girls outscored the stars 15 to 4 in the first quarter and 34 to 10 in the second. The girls were getting pretty hot playing on an indoor court but that didn’t hold them back, as they went on to smash out the last half. Once again a big thanks the girls for filling in, and we are very excited to have 7 out of our 8 players next week against KooWeeRup in the Easter match! Scores: Island 73 def Garfield 17Awards: Emma Felsovary & Lexi Walton

C GradeWow!!! What a game. Fast, intense, high pressure from both teams and a bit of drama was how the bulldogs verse the stars that was played at the Cowes YMCA for Rd 3 in our first home game. Garfield looked a bigger and stronger team with a few players dropping down from higher grades this season, but the Island girls were not going to let that deter them. Goal for goal in the first quarter to be 12 all, the defence of Tori (WD), Chloe (GD) and Ruby (GK) worked as a

tight unit intercepting, putting on pressure and rebounding every loose ball then delivering their hard work out to mid court where Alice (C), Bella (WA) and Emily (WA) didn’t let them down hitting the ring, controlled passing in to Haley (GS) and Katie (GA) to play some very solid good netball. Excellent second and third quarters by the bulldogs saw them up by 6 goals heading into the last quarter and looking the goods for a win. Mel (GA) came on with and shot a few great goals but then went down with a bad leg injury, having to be stretchered off, then not a minute later Chloe (GD) rolls an ankle and is off too. A quick regroup by the team but the dis stress of seeing their team mates injured knocked the wind out of the Island sails and Garfield pounced to score the win in a great game. Best team game by the Island girls this season, don’t be disheartened by the loss girls, awesome effort. Best of luck and speedy recovery to Mel and Chloe with their injuries.Scores: Island 36 lost to Garfield 42Awards: Hayley Moxey & Ruby Formosa

B GradeThe first quarter was a bit of a slow start, with the girls trailing by 4 early on, then the defensive duo of Laura and Kasey kicked in, which saw the Island coming into a great lead by the second quarter. Maddy and Chloe built the intensity with a fast paced second quarter. The accurate passing to the unstoppable Ashlee who was shooting from all over the goal circle made it almost impossible for Garfield to defend. The girls all put so much defensive pressure over every ball, which made it hard for Garfield to bring the ball down the court. The passes from the mid court were fast and furious, which got us to a smashing lead coming into the 3rd quarter. Everyone showed great team work and dedication which really showed on the score board at the end of the game with the Island girls coming off with a win!Scores: Island 75 def Garfield 40Awards: Laura Thompson & Kylie Hammond

A GradeWithout head coach Kate and gun goal shooter Kellie how would the A grade Island bulldogs go against Garfield at the Cowes YMCA in this week’s home game? Junior player Emma (GS) stepped up and with captain Claise (GA) & Amber (WA), put on a a very accurate first quarter to have a 12 goal lead at the first break. Strong defensive play and rebounding from Nell (WD), Steph (GD), Anthea (GK ), Cassi (GK) and Jess (C) they kept that lead throughout the game. Fast, long and accurate control was the key to the Islands play and unlike last week’s game didn’t fade out towards the end of each quarter, getting the bulldogs a solid win against a very strong opposition in Garfield. A great game to watch and very well umpired.Scores: Island 61 def Garfield 40Awards: Anthea Bennett & Emma Felsovary

FOOTBALLVenturing down to Kilcunda bass to renew old rivalries was a wonderful experience. It was a bit of a quiet start with no juniors but our reserves kicked off very quickly to open up a big lead ,pulling away at every break to win by over 130 points. It was a fantastic team effort for the full four quarters but a special mention to steritech best on ground David Hull with 8 goals. Second best on ground Campbells Construction award to the seasoned veteran Jason Kestle who had a surprising kicking result for the day kicking three goals 10. Usually one of the best kicks at the club . I'm sure there will be some fines paid this Thursday night. A fantastic effort to Bailey Webb to be Car Megamart third best on ground breaking the lines continually off half back with his great pace and accurate kick, well done BaileyThe seniors went along the same lines on the scoreboard as the reserves putting in a fantastic four quarter effort right across the team . A special mention to best on ground Gendore Tractor and Machinery award to first gamer Brad Butler son of former player and life member Peter Butler congratulations mate . Second best on ground freeway Motor Group award went to Dylan Wilson for his fantastic use of the ball Allday. Third best on ground Cheviot Homes award went to the full forward Andrew Dean for a massive eight goals. With all the netballers winning it completed a clean sweep for the whole club. Well done everyone . No game for us this Saturday the 20th our next home game is Anzac Day versing Warragul Industrials see you all there.

NEtBALLSaturday saw us head down the highway to take on Kilcunda Bass, in what was a great day out for the netball club.We came home with six wins from six games, something we were thrilled to achieve as a club. It’s exciting to see our junior teams having some success out on the courts, after putting in the hard yards and remaining positive over the past few years. There were some strong displays of netball across the board on Saturday, will all teams combining well and continuing to build upon their games each week.Joining a new league means each week we’re full of anticipation with the unknown as we face off against new rivals each week and it’s great to be get getting some strong results so far, with our senior teams all still remaining unbeaten so far. Thanks to Kilcunda Bass for welcoming us to your courts. This week we’re honoured to be upholding our tradition of playing on Anzac Day, this time as we take on the other newcomers to the West Gippsland league in Warragul Industrials. This has always been a special event for our club, and we hope to make it another great day as the standalone game on Anzac Day. We look forward as a club to honouring the Anzac spirit and paying tribute to and remembering those who have served for our country. There will be an Anzac service prior to the A-Grade and Senior Football games at approx. 1.45pm on the football oval, and we’ll also be commemorating Anzac Day throughout the day in other ways including presenting a medal after each game to those who exemplify the Anzac spirit. The club will also be laying a wreath at the Tooradin service over the road at Memorial Island, which starts at 10am for those that would like to attend.GO SEAGULLS!!
