Dear Parents and Carers, First Semester Reports Reports will be sent home with the children on the last day of term, Friday 30 June. These have been written and graded against national standards and after staff have compared work samples and grades in writing. Some reports will have an attachment to show the child’s progress, if they are on a literacy programme targeting specific skills. I have begun to read every child’s report and am very proud of the progress each child has made in their learning, the support that is provided in class by good teaching and the evidence based comments made by the teachers. If you have any questions about the report, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to discuss it in more detail. Term Dates For your calendar - the last day for Term 2 is Friday 30 June. The children have two weeks of holidays and return to school for Term 3 on Tuesday 18 July. On Monday 17 July all the staff from East Narrogin Primary School will join with staff from six schools in this region for professional training at the Narrogin Senior High School. Noongar Language and Culture activities As of last week, Laycee Coles and Carole Kickett who are the Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers at the school, have been running Noongar Language and Cultural activities for first 10 minutes of a lesson, in each class. This is done supported by the classroom teacher and is a new initiative which we are trialling this year. If it is successful, I hope to see it become embedded into the curriculum delivered at East Narrogin PS and something that your child can share with you as they become confident. Safety House Group Constable Damien Summersby from the Narrogin Police Department is putting together a community group interested in running the Safety House Programme in Narrogin. He has come up with this initiative after a number of incidences across the town over the past year where it would have been of benefit for children to have a safe house to go to, to ask for assistance. We already have some volunteers keen to get this started. If this is something you want to be involved in, or you want to know more about it, please contact Constable Summersby at the Narrogin Police Station or contact me at school and I will pass your contact details on. The role of the Safety Householder is to assist young children in need of help by just being a “Good Neighbour” to them. Dear Parents and Carers,

First Semester Reports Reports will be sent home with the children on the last day of term, Friday 30 June. Winter Carnival Congratulations to all the children who went to the town recreational centre today to compete in the interschool winter carnival. At the time of typing this I do not have any results, but I am proud of where ever they came in the competition as long as they competed with good sportsmanship and teamwork. A big thank you to the staff and the parents and friends who went down and supported them, and those who volunteered their time to umpire or help out in some way.

Thank you to the P&C Once again I congratulate the P&C on a job well done. Mrs Kirby who is the Manager of Corporate Services and I were very proud of the catering provided by our P&C on Tuesday the 6 June at professional training at East Narrogin PS, for Principals and Managers of Corporate Services from other schools in the district. Our P&C is truly wonderful at doing things to a high standard.

Facebook Just a reminder that there is an East Narrogin PS Facebook page which gives regular updates and photos of what is happening across the school. Please join if you are interested, it is listed as: East Narrogin PS.

At present there are 144 people who are linked in to this page.

Wildcats Visit On Wednesday, 14 June, at 2.00pm, the children are lucky to have a visit by members of the Wildcats Basketball Team. There are a group of 30 children who will be having a basketball workshop with them and then the whole school will have a short assembly to listen to the players. At the assembly we have a budding year 6 reporter interviewing the players to ask some probing questions.

Monday Assembly Draw Congratulations to the following students who had their names drawn out at the Monday assembly. These students each had the chance to spin the ENE BEE WHEEL for a reward.

Week 6 and 7, Term 2 Be Respectful—Summer Dale Be Your Best—Cayden Wells, Georgia Furphy Be Responsible— Sienna Lanciano, Marjorie Ugle

Attendance All parents and caregivers are reminded that Section 38 (1) of the School Education Act 1999 makes it an offence for a parent of a child of compulsory school age not to ensure that the child complies with the attendance requirements of the Act. All students should be attending at least between 90% - 95%. If your child is absent you will need to notify the school by either a sick note or phone call please.

Johan van Wyk Behaviour and Participation Administrator.

Junior STEAM

In Weeks 9 and 10 all Junior STEAM students will be participating in a unit of work called “Bridges”. They will be looking at different designs and styles of bridges and then they will need to plan their own Bridge to build. So we are looking for recycled items useful for BUILDING BRIDGES. If you have any boxes, tubes or containers which could be used for this project, please bring them into the Art Room in preparation for Week 9 and 10.

Thanking you, Rebecca Ford, Junior STEAM Teacher

Thank you to the UGSHA Hockey Development officer, Rodney Johnson, for conducting hockey skills sessions with our Year 3 – 6 students this term. The students enjoyed learning how to push, hit, trap and pass a ball in pairs and small groups. They then applied these skills in minor games with success.

Students have also been enjoying joining in the dance moves from the Jump Jam program.

Good luck to all the Year 3 - 6 students participating in hockey, soccer, football and netball in the primary schools Winter Lightning Carnival today. We will have results and photographs in the next Newsletter.

Round 12 - If you thought this round was another

shocker - you were right! That’s why the people who

couldn’t be bothered to put their tips in won!

I’m blaming Hawthorn mainly. Old fools like me

who’ve been watching them win for the last 30 years

can’t seem to switch our thinking to the new paradigm.

Freo is much easier to predict…

My only consolation at this point is that I still usually

beat my students even when I’m losing, but Ella, Alex

and Jesse are all thumping me big time!

Round 12 average was 3.2! It’s worth noting that there

was one more game this round than last, but we had a

lower average! Yeah - thanks heaps Carlton!

Round 11 - Just a sign

of the times that in a

round where there

weren’t any HUGE

surprises I still only

managed to scrape 3

correct out of 6!

I guess it’s true what

they say - when

you’re at the top the

down - except of

course that I’ve never

been on the top!!!

Outrageous!

Round 11 average was 3.4 points. That’s
