Cedarwood Preparatory From the Headmistress 25 September 2014 Weekly Newsletter Dear Parents Well spring is officially in the air! Our campus is looking absolutely beautiful and thanks must go to Margaret Wood and her team for all their hard work! We are always looking for plants for the garden, so if you have any slips or cuttings from your garden, we would be most grateful. The term is already racing away at a hectic pace so please keep an eye on the website diary for all events and schedules. Applications continue to stream in for all grades and it looks as if we will be starting the 2015 academic year with all classes fully subscribed! Please remember to let us know if your child will not be returning to Cedarwood next year, as we have many children on the waiting list, desperate to get into the school. The College closed for their short spring break on Tuesday and they will return to school on 14 October. The matrics are preparing for their final examinations which begin on 27 October . You will be receiving , via child mail, a letter discussing the new POPI Act which is to be enforced soon (Protection of Personal Information ). We need to request permission to use photographs of your child in the school magazine, on the website etc, and we thank you in advance for your co- operation in this regard. It is with great sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Anita Lyall, one of the founder parents of Cedarwood School. As well as being a parent, Anita worked at Cedarwood as the office administrator for many years, until her retirement in April 2008 when she and her husband moved to the South Coast. The Lyall’s worked tirelessly to get Cedarwood where it is today and her legacy will live on in each and every child who passes through Cedarwood. From the Sports Desk We have been back to school for three weeks now and it seems like forever. This attests to the amount of work that has been packed into the three weeks. It is very heart warming to see the enthusiasm with which all the children await the start of our games. In addition, I find that it is critical to note that attendance to practices has been very high showing growing maturity among the pupils. Please encourage pupils to excuse themselves if they will not be attending practices.

This brings me to the Sports Awards Assembly that will be hosted by the sports department later in the term. We await the return of the trophies that the children received at the same event last year as these are floating trophies and can only be kept for up to a year. We will be making more concerted efforts to contact those parents whose children received these trophies in order to prepare for this year's event.

Our sporting fixtures start next week in earnest with a packed week in which the only day with no fixture will be Tuesday. Children will have brought home letters if they were selected into any one of the teams to represent Cedarwood. We would really appreciate it if you helped them pack the correct sporting attire for the day and also come along to support them.

Oliver Ngwenya Mrs Alexander would like all the 2013

trophies to be returned as soon as possible.

    Thank you

    Dear Parents

It is almost the end of the year and a time to think of the children and the elderly that will spend the December holidays with very little. This is where we can help by making up Love Boxes that will be distributed to Sumsaren Children’s home and Old Age home.

Please refer to the Cedarwood website for examples of the items that the Love Box(es) must contain, this will help gauge the cost of each box.

You will receive a specific check list as well as some details about the person you will be making the Love box for, when you return this tear off slip.

The Love Boxes need to be brought to school by the 19th November.

Please ensure that the items are new and not used or second hand.

Gift tag/s and a checklist will only be issued once your tear off slip is returned to Miss Kim Bristow.

We greatly appreciate all your support.

    Many Thanks

    Dear Grade 4, 5 and 6 Parents

We are all hard at work preparing for our concert on the 30 and 31 October. As we have just over four weeks left before the concert, we would like to extend the practice on a Friday until 2:30. Obviously there will be no practice over the half term weekend on the 16—20 October. Please fill in the tear-off slip below and send it to your child’s class teacher. We would appreciate your support and your child’s commitment.

If your child is unable to attend a practice, please send a letter to your child’s class teacher excusing him / her and explaining why your child is unable to attend.

    Sincerely The Intermediate Phase Teachers
