As Summer draws to a close, and Winter approaches, for many this will mean more time to be spent in our painting corners, be they big or small, practicing and perfecting all the techniques we learn from our talented demonstrators. This month we have another demonstration in oil, but acrylic painters will also find the techniques invaluable. The changing colours of autumn lend themselves to tonal exercises in golds and browns ; simply delightful. The Dobell Festival art show is coming up. The Easter Bunny is on his way, But don’t forget, if not already paid.

Hello again all fellow Art Lovers. About Me: I have created and sold paintings for over thirty years and in the process, I have won numerous awards in varied sections from Still-Life to Portraiture.

My ambition is to draw the eye of the observer into the painting. I feel a sense of wellbeing in displaying the beauty within an inanimate object or everyday item that people may take for granted. My paintings are to be looked at, not just to create an ambient look in a room.

I love the camaraderie of tutoring others and sharing the love of art with like-minded people, and I am looking foreword to meeting you all.

    JACQUIE MATHER OIL PAINTING

Jacquie ably showed what an experienced teacher she is , giving us an informative demonstration, with many points that all artists can use to make a successful composition. Her main points are written in reference to her demonstration painting. Add to that some very clever paintings done in the workshop in a short space of time and, all in all, it was a very enjoyable day.

Prime your canvas first with colour

Connect dark shapes. Dark and light shapes should have a nice design

Because of atmospheric perspective, objects in the dis-tance will appear lighter, greyer, flatter and blueish

Put the paint down and leave it. Blending can flatten the image. Strokes in foreground bigger and bolder.

Don’t be a slave to realism. The truth is what is on the canvas, it is what comes from ‘inside’ the artist.

Use brush strokes to angle of interest . Don’t always paint across the canvas.

    ORGANISATION PLUS

FROM OUR MEMBERS AT THE WORKSHOP.. THE START OF SOMETHING WONDERFUL.

Outdoor shadows of-ten appear darker than they are, so make then lighter

SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE MEETING MARCH 2019

General Business: A request for assistance in learning about and operating the audio-visual

equipment will be made at the next ALM meeting. We need at least 2 others to help. Wendy and Heather will assist Denise at the front desk at Thursday meetings. Judy C. has offered to look after the raffle each week. The holiday portrait/painting will be judged by Wendy S. and Chrissy K. The frames we have on standby will be used as prizes unless someone brings in a

prize. A Westpac branch member has approached Wendy S. to advise that the bank is

community minded and invited her to visit in August to find out how the bank may help ALM.

Are there any members who can assist with burning DVDs? Is there an ALM member who can back up Denise as assistant Treasurer? Central Coast Potters are a large group who may be interested in joining our annual

exhibition this year and pay half the rental of PCYC hall. This would be instead of having numerous smaller stalls.

AGM nomination forms completed by the Committee. Further nominations will be taken at the Thursday meeting.

"The artist constructs a new symbol with his brush. This symbol is not a recognizable form of anything that is already finished, already made, or already existent in the world – it is a symbol of a new world, which is be-ing built upon and which exists by the way of the people."
