It is the time of the year again when we celebrate the Feast of our beloved Patron, St. Anthony of Padua. We will be having our traditional 9-day Novena Masses starting June 4, the procession on June 12, and our Fiesta dinner on June 13. This year, we will be having a special event on June 10, entitled “Pistahan sa Parokya”. We would like to bring back the traditional fiesta atmosphere of fun, games, food, and a whole-day entertainment for the whole family. We will have games for the children, native delicacies and the Pre-loved Bazaar! As our community grows in fellowship and spirituality, we do not forget to reach out to our fellow brothers and sisters in most need of our help. June 2 is our Medical Mission where we have invited diverse specialists and doctors to be of service. We have scheduled our annual Libreng Binyag on June 4, Libreng Kumpil on June 5, and the Libreng Kasal on June 8. And from June 4 to June 12, we will have the Libreng Almusal at 6 am, which serves about 1,000 people daily. This year’s Fiesta chairperson is none other than my beloved aunt, Leticia Roxas-Chua. If there is someone who can do all these things -- just for the love of the Lord and for our less fortunate brothers and sisters -- it is my Auntie Leticia. She has been an example and an inspiration to our family and we are privileged to have her as our chair. With this, I invite you all to be a part our fiesta activities. It is a good opportunity to experience what being a community in the olden times feels like. Yes, this is more than a one-day event, because one day is not enough to emphasize the impact of the life of St. Anthony in our lives. Happy Fiesta everybody! P.S. Please do visit us at the Parish office should you want to participate in any way. St. Anthony will be happy. Jun Rodriguez

From the Desk of the Parish Priest

To My Beloved Parishioners:

Peace and every blessing!

Our fi esta celebration this year is another milestone as well as a grace-fi lled occasion for our parish-community. May this be an opportunity for us to participate actively in all our fi esta activities; to deepen the spirit of solidarity and service especially with those who have less in life; and to nurture our spirituality of communion and stewardship. For this year, our theme is “St. Anthony of Padua: Our Model of Renewed Servant-Leadership for the New Evangelization.”

In line with our celebration, I am honored to personally request you and your family to be one of the sponsors of the Novena or fi esta Mass. Solicited donations from our liturgical activities will go to our fi esta outreach programs. Your personal and family prayer intentions will be included in our daily Masses for the whole month of June.

The Lord bless you and keep you.May He show His face to you and have mercy.

May He turn His countenance to youand give you peace.

The Lord bless you!

June 3, 2018

On Saturday morning, 5 May 2018, the solemn but happy procession of the Level 2 CCD (Continuing Catholic Development) Teachers and their seventy-three (73) students, entered the main Church for the start of the First Holy Communion Ceremony. The pews were packed with parents, family members, relatives, friends, yayas and supporters; and promptly at 9:00 AM, the Psalm 47 Male Chorale Choir began the dedication hymn of “HERE I AM, LORD”. The procession continued down the aisle, preceding the Liturgical Entourage and Presiding Priest, Fr. Reu Jose C. Galoy, OFM, our Parish Priest and CCD’s Spiritual Advisor.

The faces of the congregation mirrored the atmosphere which was one of happy anticipation, joy but most of all, thanksgiving, for this beautiful day, which would long be remembered by the children and their parents. For the proud, happy and dedicated teachers, the CCD Committee and staff , the day was the culmination of months of mentoring the children about the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist, plus reviewing the Sacrament of Baptism and explaining the Mass. The credit to this successful Liturgical Celebration belongs entirely to the CCD Committee and staff .

In his Homily, Fr. Reu thanked the parents for their role in children preparing their children to receive Jesus for the fi rst time in Holy Communion. His special request to them was to never prevent their children from participating in and partaking of the celebration of Holy Mass. He also asked them to always encourage and support their children to receive Holy Communion regularly. He thanked the teachers for their dedication and commitment as catechists at CCD. For the First Communicants, his advice was that -- just as they have their own special favourites in the way of food and drink and which they try to consume as often as possible -- they must also regard Holy Communion as one of their favourites and attend Mass as often as possible to be able to receive Holy Communion. Fr. Reu concluded by paying special tribute to Katty Roxas-Chua Qua as CCD Chairperson.

In turn and in her Closing Remarks as CCD Chair, Mrs.

Qua, fi rst thanked Fr. Reu for his constant and wiling support to CCD, not only as CCD’s Spiritual Advisor but also as a faculty mentor who taught the Holy Mass to all levels of CCD students. She congratulated the First Communicants and told them that henceforth, they can receive Holy Communion with their parents and siblings, emphasizing her point by quoting from one of Pope Francis’ homilies that “The Eucharist is such a great gift. That’s why going to Mass is so important. Going to Mass not just to pray, but to receive Communion, the Bread and Body of Christ. It saves us, forgives us and it makes us one with one with the Father. How beautiful!”

At this First Holy Communion Mass, CCD was celebrating not only the special milestone in the young Communicants’ lives but also, as Mrs. Qua put it, that “Ïn the history of CCD, this is the biggest First Holy Communion group we’ve ever had at 73 communicants. Our heartfelt thanks goes to you, CCD parents for entrusting your children to us.”

In her conclusion, Mrs. Qua especially thanked her Co-CCD Chairperson, Marivic Ortigas Borromeo. She also thanked CCD staff er, Leah Azarcon, the Eucharistic Ministers, Tony Pasia, Edmund Lim, Henry So, Manny Artfecia and Jopi Luz, the Altar Servers, Isabella Sampilo and Leila Gonzalez and Gabriel and Rafael Drilon, the Psalm 47 Male Chorale Choir, the Commentator, CCD Teacher, Patricia Lichauco, Volunteer Teachers Jojo Leveriza and Nancy Gonewai, Sacristan, Art, and last but not least, she “expressed sincerest gratitude to the dedicated CCD First Holy Communion Teachers who had lovingly and patiently prepared” the Communicants for this Special Day: Dottie Pasia, Elisa So, Tess Sarmiento, Rolando Macabuag, Micki Poe and Assistant, Cristina Castillo, and Vicki Sarmiento and her Assistant, Patricia Montel.

PARISH BULLETIN

The Solemnity of Corpus Christi (Latin for Body of Christ), also known as Corpus Domini (Latin for Body of the Lord), is a Latin Rite liturgical solemnity celebrating the tradition and belief in the body and blood of Jesus Christ and His Real Presence in the Eucharist.

The Sacrament of the Eucharist lies at the very heart of the Catholic Faith. When we receive Holy Communion, we are united with Jesus in the most intimate way possible here on earth. For the Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ. The almighty God, Creator of the universe, humbles Himself so that He can become one with us each time we attend Mass and receive Communion.

At Mass, the bread is changed into the Body of Christ and the wine is changed into the Blood of Christ. This is not a chemical change since the outward, sensible appearances of bread and wine remain, but underneath those appearances of bread and wine, Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. This is what we call the Real Presence.

In the Mass, the mode of Christ’s Real Presence is as the Victim/Sacrifi ce and Priest for our redemption and salvation. As a liturgical memorial, the Mass

SOLEMNITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI

makes present Christ’s sacrifi ce on the Cross in order to apply the fruit of His sacrifi ce to our lives. At every Mass, we are called to join our lives in union with Christ’s gift of Himself to the Father.

When we go to Communion, the priest or extraordinary minister of the Eucharist holds up the host and says, “The Body of Christ.” We reply, “Amen,” which means “So be it,” asserting that we do believe that we are going to be taking Christ into our very bodies. When we stop to think about what’s really happening with the host, it’s one of the greatest miracles of all time… and it happens at each and every Catholic Mass.

When we receive the Eucharist, we are receiving the very Body and Blood of Jesus into our souls. He loves us so much that He desires to be with us in this intimate way.

June 3, 2018

In the Jewish tradition, the heart is more than just a physical organ. It represents the core of the human person and of spiritual activity. From this core emerges emotion, especially love, and it is in the heart that God speaks to man.

Our understanding of the heart becomes more profound in light of the incarnation. Jesus, who is one with the Father, entered the world and became man. He became fl esh, and He too had a physiological heart, but His heart also represents His sacred and divine love. He loved us with a heart both human and divine, and in His fl esh, united Himself with our suff ering. It is with this heart that He suff ered and died for the sins of the world.

The Catechism states that “[Jesus] has loved us all with a human heart. For this reason, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pierced by our sins and for our salvation, ‘is quite rightly considered the chief sign and symbol of that love with which the Divine Redeemer continually loves the eternal Father and all human beings’ without exception (#478).

On December 23, 1673, our Lord revealed to St. Mary Alacoque: “My Divine Heart is so passionately infl amed with love… that, not being able any longer to contain within Itself the fl ames of Its ardent charity, It must let them spread abroad through your means, and manifest Itself to man, that they may be enriched with Its precious treasures which I unfold to you, and which contain the sanctifying and salutary graces that are necessary to hold them back from the abyss of ruin.”

The Outpouring Love of the Sacred Heart

As Christians, we are called to respond to and to participate in the love of the Sacred Heart. We are asked to accept the outpouring of His love, and to spread it to others. Pope Leo XIII consecrated the world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1899, and this devotion still lives to this day. In a world of increasing persecution, secularism and apathy, the graces of the Sacred Heart are our shield and our weapon.

“Where does your energy come from?” One might stop to ask how this woman, in her senior years, copes with the daily grind, while full of energy, moving and completing one task to several more. “Being of service to others boosts my spirits” could be one of her answers. This woman is Leticia T. Roxas-Chua. Since she was young, Leticia was used to working. Being the eldest of 4 siblings, she ran the house while her parents were at work. She then became a devoted wife, ventured into some businesses while raising 4 kids, and continues to be a doting daughter and caring sister. wearing various hats that she has become the “call-to” adviser and helper of most. We usually rely on her for help, from the most mundane jobs, to solving the extraordinary -- and sometimes close to impossible -- life challenges. We lean on her for seeking peace of mind as we de-stress from earthly routine and to relieve pain from emotional trials. In spite of the numerous roles Leticia takes on, she ensures that: she attends Mass daily (even when abroad), does her duty as a lector/commentator, makes time to bring out priests to lunch, cares for her elderly mom and continues to be available for her

family and friends. She recently found a new role to the community -- by going around with her “Kind Hearts” truck -- where she goes to
