Always remember that achievement is not always success, while reputed failure often is. It is honest endeavor, persistent effort to do the best possible under any and all circumstances. If you take responsibility for yourself you will develop a hunger to accomplish your dreams. Believe me, there will be no one who can stop you to accomplish positive goals of your life. Someone has rightly said “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.” So live your life with all possible efforts and do your level best because "The Light shines more brightly in the darkness.”

A Group of 25 Faculty members from COER Family attended the HMA Annual Day function on April 05, 2014 on “Leadership in Emerging Business Scenario” .Chief Guest, Dr. Pritam Singh (Padmashree Award Recipient), Director General, IMI New Delhi, Guest of Honour, Mr. Kamal Singh, Director General National HRD Network, Lt. Gen Dr. Mohan Bhandari, and members of HMA and different management fraternity attended the function.

A Farewell for MBA II Year students was organized on May 10, 2014 by MBA I Year students. Dr. Veeralakshmi was the coordinator of this event.

Alumni Meet was organized on May 10, 2014 for the passed students of COER-SM. A large no. of students of MCA and MBA attended the programme. Mr. Anurag Singh and Dr. Veeralakshmi were the coordinator of this event.

A prize distribution ceremony for all activities under Value Added Programs was organized on 10

th May,

2014 in which all the winners of different activities of Value Added Program were awarded with the Certificates and Medals. Shri J. C. Jain was the chief guest on this occasion.

DISHA

The Technical Committee organised Annual Techno-Management Fest ‘MANTHAN-14’ during April 2-5, 2014, with the aim of providing dynamic platform to the young minds to explore and enhance their skills. This gave the youth an opportunity to experience Science and Technology as well as Management in all its myriad forms.’MANTHAN-14’ was a great success in grooming the students and preparing them for the world of professionalism. Manthan embroils with itself a number of Technical and Management events to fulfill the aim. The various technical and management events can be categorized such as:

GIGABIT, the C programming contest. CODEX, the website and software building competition. PIONEER, the business planning event. BLITZKRIEG, the business mind extempore. KURUKSHETRA, the LAN gaming event. PRAYOG, the model making. KOUIZ, the quiz competition UDBHAVA, the paper presentation. ROBOSYNC, the battleground to robots. SHAURYA, the mock SSB.

Additionally, there were also a bunch of informal events to bring bliss to the fest. Manthan-14 was a great success witnessing huge participation from COER and different colleges.

The Literary Committee organized its prize distribution ceremony on May 09, 2014 in conference Hall. Committee organized total 08 events during the session 2013-14. All the events met with outstanding participation. Winner of events were honored by presenting them trophies (Total 21 nos) along with certificate of recognition. Certificates were given to the members of committee and also to the students involved actively in designing/editing MUCUR: the annual college magazine.

to manage the change that is inevitable.”

Prize Distribution Ceremony of CTSE

The Prize distribution ceremony of CTSE-14 was organized on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Dr. Mahaveer Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor, Uttarakhand Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya and Guest of honour was Shri S.S. Nangiyan, Chairman and Principal, Scholars Academy. Shri. J.C. Jain, Chairman COER, delivered inspiring speech in the prize distribution ceremony. The First Rank holder RANA ABHISHEK of Abhinav Public School, New Delhi was awarded with Cash Prize of Rs 11,000, Gold Medal, Trophy and Certificate, Rank holders 2-10 were awarded Rs 5000 Silver Medal and

certificate, Rank holders 11-20 were awarded Rs 3000 each, Bronze Medal and certificate, Rank holders 21-30 were awarded Rs 2000 each and certificate Rank holders 31-50 Rs 1000 each and certificate. The rank holders from Rank 51-300 were also awarded with certificates.

UTU EVEN SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS

The Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) has conducted the even semester examinations of session 2013 -2014 at different examination centres. College of Engineering Roorkee was one of the examination centres. Roorkee Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Ramanand Institute of Pharmacy and Management Hardwar (RIPM) were also associated with this centre. 69 different laboratories were utilized to perform the practical examination during May - June, 2014. 2305 students were appeared in practical examination and their performance was assessed by different experts from GBPUAT Pantnagar, GBPEC Pauri, and THDC Tehri etc.

The theory papers were started from June 02, 2014 under the supervision of Dr. V. K. Mehta along with UTU observer. It is observed that the examination was being carried out according to the instructions and guidelines of UTU. The examination centre worked as an ideal centre. The examinations were completed on June 25, 2014.

OORJA

The Cultural Committee presented another fantastic and marvelous event i.e ZION 2014- The Annual Inter College Cultural Fest of College of Engineering Roorkee. The much awaited fest was organized under the guidance of Oorja Convenors Mr. Pranav Bansal and Mr. Akhil Dangwal with a team of 54 members under the name of “TEAM ZION”. The Team was headed by Aman Negi, BTech (Final year) as the student coordinator. ZION’14 was successfully organized from April 7-10, 2014 with a huge response from the students. Not only from COER but also from other colleges all over India took active part in it. ZION’14 was all about Living Your Passion. All the performances depicted high zeal and passion which were praised by all. This time ZION went international because of the title sponsor- Talent Flush. All the performances were broadcasted live on www.talentflush.com . The 3 days of ZION were not merely days but “Festive Days”. ZION is a festival celebrated by all COERians and audiences. There are many informal and formal events including Rockedence -The Rock Band Show, Milan Street- The Ramp Walk Show, Accoustica- The Singing Competition, D-Vibez- The Dancing Competition, Skit competition, rangoli and sketching painting competition. The huge response to the fest has been a great motivation to the team members.

ECO CLUB

HARITIMA (An Green Festival) 2014 has been organized by Eco-Club in the month of Feb 2014 successfully. A total 110 students from all the B. Tech stream (branch) have taken active participation in various sub themes of Haritima 2014 i.e. Document, Society Planning, Eco-Club, Marathon, Paper Presentation event etc. A total 26 students have been given first, second & third prizes. The prize distribution was held in April 2014 at Conference Hall of campus. All the prizes were distributed by Director General COER followed by his inspirational speech for the student’s in making greener & clean environment.

Karuna Club

Workshop on “Vegetarianism and Non Vegetarianism: It’s Your Choice” was organized by Dr Karuna Jain and other members at Scholars Academy on April 19, 2014 through Karuna Club.

An HR Meet was organized on Saturday, 7th

June, 2014 in association with SIDCUL Industrial Association on “IDENTIFYING THE GAP AND EXPECTATIONS OF INDUSTRY FROM ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS AND THEIR REMEDIES” at COER School of Management, Roorkee. Dr V. K. Jain, Director COER-SM summarized the discussion and concluded the following:

In order to be successful a student must have relevant Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, Sincerity, Dedication, Honesty and commitment.

Verbal and written communication should be good.

Team Building spirit is required to work effectively in team.

Practical training should be imparted to students by the way of practical training, on job training, summer training, interaction with industry and projects.

Curriculum should be need based and be revised as per industry requirement.

Practical and latest case studies should be discussed.

Local language is very important to achieve productivity.

Behavioral skills must be taught.

Students should have goal oriented approach.

For recruitment apart from academics overwll personality need to b e improved.

Student must have learning attitude but not the learned attitude.

Value Added Programme

COER-SM regularly organizes the value added programme (VAP) for MBA and MCA students to motivate and raise the confidence among them so that they can cope with the outside world. During this semester the following VAPs were conducted.

Visit to Bengal Engineer Group and Center (BEG&C)

A group of 30 students visited BEG & Centre, Roorkee. For watching the “demonstration on tasks of corps of engineers during war and peace” organized on May 01, 2014. Demonstration on time bound launching of bridges, application of bridges across canal, demonstration on waterman ship training and equipment display were the major events presented by trained army people. It was wonderful experience for all the students and also an exposure to Indian Army. Overall organizing responsibility of visit was taken by Mr. D. S. Rathore (Senior Sports Officer) and Dr. V. K. Singh (Dean-SW).

Team Building Activities

Several games have been planned under the Team Building Activity which was played among MBA and MCA

students. Mr.Ranit Kishore and Dr. Vishal Singhal coordinated this activity.
