From the Agent October is a busy month in the life of Homemakers so
please be aware of all events scheduled especially
ones for Homemaker Week. I’d like to encourage all
of you to invite a new friend to join Homemakers.
This month is unique where there are plenty of
opportunities for new potential members to come and
mingle with current members. Extend the invitation to
a neighbor, friend, or family member to join you at
some of these events. After all, Homemakers is a fun
group to be a part of. Let’s show up, show off and get
some new members!
I’d also like to remind you that the Fort Harrod Area
Annual Meeting will be held in Garrard County this
year and you are all invited. Please see the attached
registration form for more information. If you need a
ride and would like to have a seat in the traverse,
please call 236-4484 and let me know.
Please don’t forget that the County Council meeting
dates have been set for the whole year. Mark your
calendars and make your best effort to attend. The
council needs representation from each club to
conduct business. This includes county chairmen.
Remember, a little effort goes a long way.
Thanks. Alethea Price

details on this later.
Lancaster Road Lancaster Road Homemakers met September 7th at
the Guadalajara restaurant with 15 members
attending. We welcomed new member Janet
Lebrecht. Everyone was happy to see each other
after the summer. Jan Bradshaw is our new
secretary. Charletta Sharp will remain as our
treasurer. Linda Yocum presented the lesson the
Mediterranean Diet and Lifestyle. Our October
meeting will be Wednesday, October 12th at Camp
Horsin’ Around. We will meet at the Extension
Office at 9:00.
Wilderness Trail Wilderness Trail closed the 2015-2016 club year
with a luncheon trip to The Glitz in May and opened
the 2016-2017 year with a “Sandwich Potluck” on
Thursday, September 1. We acknowledge Members
who had worked at the County Fair and welcomed
back our treasurer, Marianne Kirby, who had been on
“medical leave” for the past few months. The main
objection of this first meeting was to get organized
for our club year. We signed up for hostesses, leader
lessons, etc. We chose the local Police Department
and Fire Department as organizations to support this
year. Emma Tucker and Marianne Kirby agreed to
stay on for another term as secretary and treasurer,
respectively. We are looking forward to a good, and
hopefully, healthy year for our members and the
entire county organization.
Tasting Party and Silent Auction
The first BIG event for Boyle County Homemakers will
be a Tasting Party and Silent Auction, which will kick
off Homemakers Week on Monday, October 9, from
6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Extension office.
EVERYONE is invited to attend, and even more,
everyone is urged to bring a friend (or friends). This
event is also part of our membership drive, and it will
be a good opportunity for community members to learn
more about our organization. Information about the
organization, the clubs, and the committees will be
available.
This should be a FUN event—an opportunity to
socialize with members of all the county clubs and
other people from the community, to sample some
GOOD finger foods provided by members of the
various clubs, and to participate in a silent auction,
which will be FUN and will provide FUNDS for Boyle
County Homemakers.
ALL Homemakers are urged to attend and to participate
by doing the following: Bring one or more friends,
Bring items for the Silent Auction, Bid on items in the
silent auction, and Buy some nice things. Remember
your B’s!! The silent auction will open at 6:00 sharp
and will close at 7:30 sharp.
(Most of us are more interested in clearing out excess
“stuff” rather than accumulating more “stuff,” but don’t
let that stop you from bidding in the silent auction. If
you don’t see anything you can use, bid on something
for a grandchild, a neighbor, a stocking stuffer, etc. Or
even bid on something to give to a charity. Then you’ll
be supporting two causes, Boyle County Homemakers
and your charity).
PARTICIPATION will make this even a success. So,
COME, PARTICIPATE, and have FUN doing it. Mark
that October 9th date on your calendar right now!
Homemaker Reports
Mountain Splendor
As I think of our Mountain Splendor,
I see a vision of a place of peace.
Where we can escape the care of life
and God sends sweet release.
In the Spring to see the sweet flowers bloom,
to see the trees burst forth with new life.
To hear the birds sing their new melodies, as they
take their wings of flight.
In the Summer to sit on the porch
and feel the cool breeze passing by.
To see the wind gently blow the leaves,
as it sweeps through the blue sky.
In Autumn as the leaves change their colors,
to brilliant shades of God’s coloring book.
I think I could sit for hours on end,
and never get tired, just enjoy and look.
In the Winter when the snow falls,
and the cold chilling winds blow.
The warmth I feel by the crackling fire,
but it’s God’s love that warms my soul.
So as I think of our Mountain Splendor,
our cabin that sits back in the hills.
I think I’d like to go there again,
so with sweet rest, My soul God will fill.
