What’s Happening Around the District?

As the newsletter goes to

press, the College School Dis-

trict 7th and 8th graders and

staff are on the trip of a life-

time!

After taking the Red Eye over-

night, they hit the ground running

in the “Big Apple” visiting NYC’s

iconic sights - Central Park,

Times Square, Radio City Music

Hall, 9/11 Memorial and

Broadway. This year’s produc-

tion was King Kong.

Leaving NYC, the group travels to

Amish Country in PA and then

tours Gettysburg National Park.

The final destination is Washing-

ton D.C. to tour the museums,

monuments, the U.S. Capitol.

Central Park and Radio City Music Hall

Battle of the Books

On May 2, the SBCEO hosted the Battle of the Books

which is a nationwide reading initiative. Students read

books from the list of 30 books during the year. At the

event, teams are formed with students from different

schools. The teams answer questions based on the list of

books. Hopefully, someone on their team will have read

and remembers the details of the book from which the

question is taken. Addie Madrid and Quinn Robinson at-

tended the event for Santa Ynez Elementary School.

Bobcats Make History

The Santa Ynez Bobcats Boys Volley team finished the season as the win-ningest team in school history. They ended the regular season with a 7 and 3 record and raced into the Valley Tournament as the number 3 seed. They breezed past the Santa Ynez Charter School winning the first 2 sets that set up a semifinal match with Christian Academy. Both teams split during the regular season which made for a drama filled semifinal match. With the help of serving from Anthony Orozco and tremendous back row digging from Eric Marmolejo the Bobcats raced out to an early lead and ended game one with a victory. Game 2 did not go the Bobcats way and it set up the 3rd. With a back and forth 3rd set, outside hitter Pedro Ramirez extended the Bobcats lead to 3 but that quickly was tied. With the match at 11 to 14 Isaac Moran slammed home the game winner in the back corner giving the Bobcats the victory and a date in the championship match vs Jonata. It was the first time in history that the Boys Volleyball has ever made the championship game. Jonata was a heavy favorite winning the regular season and taking down the Bobcats in both matches. The championship game started out with a back and forth rallies, Junior Rubio played excellent in the middle and Eric Ramirez passed and set up outside hitters. The size and athletic ability made it hard for the Bobcats to score and the Bulldogs took game one. Game two saw the Bobcats take an early lead, but could not handle the power hits by Jonata and eventually lost in 2 sets. Although the Bobcats did not come out on top it was still a successful season that saw the team finish with a 10 and 3 record and take home 2nd place in the Valley Tournament. Members of the team: Diego Robles, Junior Rubio, Eric Ramirez, Eric Marmolejo, Anthony Orozco, Jason Figueroa, Isaac Moran, Ped-ro Ramirez.

Track and Field Bobcats Earn Ribbons On May 17th Santa Ynez sent around 40 6th 7th and 8th grade athletes to the Valley Track and Field Meet at Santa Ynez High School. For the first time in school history the Bobcats took home the most ribbons it ever had. RJ Jackson won first place in the boys 6th grade 100m sprint and Diego Robles won the boys 6th grade 200m race. It was the first time the Santa Ynez Bobcats swept the sprint events. The 6th grade boys kept their title by taking home the 4x100 relay race winning by almost 30 me-ters. Team members included Jack Elliot, Rj Jackson, Diego Robles, and Ivan Martinez. It was a great way to end the 2019 athletic year for the Bob-cats. Mr. Blessing would like to thank all the athletes who participated.
