Intro
HERZL IS BORN!!!!
I was born on May 2, 1860 in Budapest Hungary.
My family was Jewish, but not religious. In school I was a good writer.
WHERE I’VE BEEN
• In 1878, we moved to Vienna and I grew up there.
• I went to a Jewish grade school, local high school, and studied law at the University of Vienna. At the university, I experienced anti-Semitism for the first time.
• Later, I worked in Germany. While in Germany, I wrote stories and plays, got married, and had 3 children
• I was not happy with law. I moved to Paris France and became a journalist. I wrote articles in newspapers.
WHEN I STARTED HELPING ISRAEL
In 1894, I was waiting outside a military court room in Paris, France. The crowd was there to find out whether Alfred Dreyfus, a Jewish officer, was going to be found guilty of spying for Germany.
I heard a man shout ‘’Death to the Jews’’ and I realized that the Jews needed a homeland of their own. Immediately I set to work. I gave speeches, wrote articles in newspapers, and I wrote books. All hoping to get the word out about Zion (another name for Israel.) I had a dream!
Thousands of Jewish people saw what I did and wanted to help me. They called themselves Zionists.
I created the first Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland. In 1897, delegates from all over the world attended.
I became the first President. I used my good writing skills to convince
wealthy Jews to support my idea of a Jewish land with good agriculture, technology and science.
I worked very hard for a Jewish state. I didn’t get to see it, but my dream became a
reality in 1948.

MY FAMILY
I had a wife named Julia. I had three children. My eldest girl was named Pauline. My middle son was named Hans And my littlest girl, Trude.
COMPARISON
Theodor Herzl Martin Luther King Jr.
I am often compared to Martin Luther King Jr. because we both had a dream for a better world for our people.
MY QUOTES
“An idea is like a seed waiting to take root and break out of the darkness into the sunlight.’’
“ If you will it, it is not a dream.’’
MY LAST DAY WITH THE SUN WAS A CHERISHED ONE
I died in 1904 at the young age of 44. In 1949 a great ceremony occurred. My
remains were brought from Vienna to Israel. I was buried on Mt. Herzl in Jerusalem.
MY GRAVE
CONCLUSION
Sadly, I didn’t live to see Israel, but I'm guessing it turned out to be a beautiful place.
I hope you learned a lot about my life.
