Thiscourseisdesignedtointroducestudentstothebasicknowledge,andskillsrequiredtoprovidehighqualitynursingmanagement across the life span and for special populationwhoneedpsychiatric care. It focusesmainlyon clientswithemotional andpsychiatricproblems indifferenthealth care settings. Studentswillparticipateingroupdiscussionandotheractivitiesrelatedtoprovidingpsychiatriccommunityservices.
2 NursingManagementandLeadership(NURS1610-421).Thiscoursewillenablestudentsto:developtheknowledge,skillsandattitudenecessaryfortheirfutureroleinmanagementandleadershipinnursing.
Thiscoursedescribestheconceptsandprinciplesrelevanttomanagerialfunctions:planning,organizing,staffing,directingandcontrollingandtheirapplicationindifferentnursingsituationsatthevarioushealthcaresettings.Also,itfocusesonthekeyissuesinnursingleadership,conceptsandtheirapplicationintopractice.Thiscoursewillexposethestudenttotheprinciplesofqualitymanagement(QM),processoftotalqualitymanagement(TQM)andcontinuousqualityimprovement(CQI)andriskmanagementincludingapproachesinidentifyingandmanaginghealthcareproblems.
3 CommunityHealthNursing,(NURS1610-432).
ThiscoursepreparesthestudenttoparticipatethroughnursingactionsinallthepublichealthcareservicesprovidedintheSaudicommunity.Thefamily,astheprimaryunitofthecommunity,isthefocusofcare.Thisincludeshealthservicesofpreventive,promotiveandcurativelevelstoallmembersofthefamilyconsideringtheirspecialdevelopmentalneeds.Thestudentisorientedtousealltheavailablecommunityhealthresourcesto accomplish the goals of primary care. Clinical exposure of the student is provided through health carecentres.Thestudentisrequiredtointegrateallpreviousnursingknowledgeandskillstosuitthenatureofthehealthproblemsthatmaybeencountered.
4 EPIDEMIOLOGY&BIOSTATISTICS(NURS1610-411)Thiscourseintroducesthestudentstoconceptsandscientificmethodsusedinepidemiologytoassessandinvestigateanyhealthproblem.Thecourseprovidesthestudentswiththebasicconceptsofbiostatisticsregardingdatacollection,presentationandsimpleanalysisofhealthdata.Itwillconcentrateonsimplestatisticaltechniquesforcollection,managinghealthdata,organizingandDescribingsummaryindicesappliedinthenursingfield.
5 IntroductiontoResearchMethodsandEvidenceBasedPractice(NURS1610-422)Thiscourseenablesthestudenttounderstandtheintegratedprocessesofdesigningandconcludingaresearch.Thestudentwilllearnhowtogenerate,formulateandjustifytheresearchidea,howtosearchtheliteratureanddifferentdataresources,thedifferenttypesofresearchdesigns,howtodesignaquestionnaire,toselectsampleandtowriteresearchproposal.Thiscoursefocusesontheassimilationofknowledgeconcerningevidence-basedpracticeinnursingbyreviewingandevaluatingqualityofresearchevidence.
