Friends are the family we choose. Friendship is a simple word but carries

a deep meaning. A friend should be the medicine when I am in pain. When we are alone friends give us company and we love to spend time with our friends.

It is very simple to choose a friend but hard to find a good and trustworthy friend. Friends never leave us in bad times so friendships teach us a lot about loyalty. Friends make us stronger and happier and we learn to love someone and respect them. A true friend guides us on the right path. So it is good to have friends.....

A friend in need

Friendship is the most important thing in our life because friends make us

happy, tell jokes and even share their food with us. Some people say a friend in need is a friend in deed.

True friendship is what gives us the reason to stay strong in life. Having a family is important but you also need true friendship to be completely happy. Some people don’t have families but they have friends who are like their fam-ily. Thus we can see having true friends mean a lot to everyone/

helpmate’s desk

Hello again to all! Welcome to the last edition of Life Beats for

the academic year 2019-2020. The theme for this issue is Friendship. Friendship is a very important part of our lives.

During our third term, we had many events. We had a Mock Parliament, a Football League, a Swimming Gala and to top it all, the Life Expo 2020. In the Mock Parlia-ment we learned how a parliament works. In the Football League, the four houses clashed together to find out how well we can play football. In the Swimming Gala we showed off our swimming skills. And of course our unforgettable Life Expo! We had a Curtain Raiser which showed our past Life Days. In Spectra, our science exhibition, we had a live check up counter, models, our environment and live experiments. Then we had My Town Kottayam which showed Kot-tayam in just one room. Then there was the Living Wax Museum with many famous people. There were dances, Karate and Kalaripayattu and lots of stalls. I really liked the excellent food from the Thattuka-da. I think the best thing was the Photo Gallery. It was fun walking in the nicely decorated Cavea, looking at all the photos.

As I write our upcoming event is our final exams. I hope you fill en-joy flipping through the magazine. And before I sign off, I would like to say that we all played a wonderful part in making this year a successful one. I hope to see you next year! Bye.......

true friends

Friendship is something which is very rare. It is hard to find a good friend.

Many people will walk in and out of your life but only true friends leave footprints in your heart.

Rihaana Elizabeth ChandyGrade IV

A hero

A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world

walks out. A real friend is like a hero who

raises you up when you fall down. The bond between friends is so strong that you want to stay to-gether forever. You feel like shar-ing everything with your friend be it bitter or sweet.

Age is not a factor in friendship and true friends are separated only by death. Love, trust, understand-ing are all the factors behind a true friendship.

Daniel V JacobGrade XI

Anything is possible when you have the right one to support you.

A widely used quote that defines a part of what friendship is. But friend-ship is much, much more than that. It is something you can’t describe even if you write a thousand page essay on it.

Most people define it by saying ‘a spe-cial bond’. The people who have experi-enced it and are experiencing it are the luckiest people. True friends are one in a million. It’s like finding a needle in a haystack. It is hard but not impossible.

A real friend

A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.

Real friends are like parents; they will not go away from us. They care for us like our sister and brother does.

If you fall, a real friend can help you to overcome any problem. A single friend can make your world a wonderful place. They will not get in your way

unless you are going down.True friendship is when the silence is comfortable.

Arin ShajiGrade XII

Friendship is one of the most im-portant things in our journey of

life. Friends help us to get along with one another.

There are three thoughts which I think clearly state the importance of friendship.

1. Someone once asked me if I would like a big ship or a small one and I smiled and said, “The only ship I want is friendship.”

2. True friends are like stars. You may not always see them but you know that they are there.

3. True friends are hard to find, harder to forget and even harder to lose.

In life we must learn how to have friendship and how never to forget it. Friends support you, talk with you and most of all never for-get you.

To conclude I would like to say friendship leads to friends and friends lead to a happy life.

Ermina S RanjuGrade VI

It is easy to break a friendship but it’s very hard to find a true one. A true friend is not someone who tells you what you want to hear but someone who tells you what you need to hear.

You may not always see your friends but you know that they are there for you. Friends can make you feel like you belong and make you the happiest per-son in the world.

A story on Friendship

Peter wanted a friend and so he chose a friend. Sadly they became bad. One

night Peter’s friend told him to steal. But a man heard a sound and when he went to check he saw Peter stealing. The man called the police.

Moral: If you are choosing a friend you should select a good friend.

We sail within a vast sphere, ever drifting in uncertainty, driven from end to end.

We come to the end of this academ-ic session with a few disturbances

which matter, but not hamper all the productive and successful events that sum up the academic year 2019-20. At this point of time, we are right in the middle of the uncertainty accompanying the confusions that ensue and the tra-vails it has caused us in more ways than one.

Thus, the academic session 2019-2020 comes to a halt abruptly in the midst of the COVID -19 scare. Life is so unpredict-able, it just hits you on the face leaving you clueless as to what happens next. Students were given a few days of home study and teachers were at school im-mersed in their annual trainings when reports came in of the sudden outbreaks

locally. Not just us, but a vast majority of people and organizations are affected and activities hit.

We made a decision to conduct exams online utilizing the technology which we have embraced wholeheartedly at this point. The Graduation Programme for Pre -school has been postponed till June. The LVIS summer camp has been cancelled.

In retrospect, we have just complet-ed one of our most successful and fun filled years and are stepping into our decade year. A lot has been planned as informed to you all during our Expo. We will be bringing in participations from other schools in diverse areas to mark our decade year.

On the academics front, we have added the science stream along with commerce and humanities at the high school level and tie-ups for coaching has been organized for the profession-

al entrances to different higher cours-es. A good news in this context is the change in pattern of the board question papers and its practices in general. The latest positive information we received was that both our board batches found all the exams undertaken till date easy when compared to children from other schools, which reinforces the fact that we are fully equipped for the 21st centu-ry learning.

Parents, you are our backbone and support and you have been great this year as in all previous years, it makes a big difference to us in moving ahead with ease. Thank you all for being so wonderful.

I would like to conclude by wishing all of you out there a safe vacation indoors. Do follow all the instructions that are valid.

teaching back to cleaning roads !!!

Our students are more interested to learn from their peers and es-

pecially their seniors at school. This is a natural phenomenon , they idol worship their seniors . This is being tapped productively when they are empowered to engage and activate .

Teach back paves way for self motivation and acts as a reinforcer to what is learnt . Students do a lot of preparation to teach their juniors who love every minute of it.

Cleaning and maintaining the roads outside takes responsibility

to a higher level . Students not only shed inhibitions but develop the right attitude by being more responsible.

They learn to protect and have concern for fellow beings , they will never misuse or destroy public prop-erty . This is called as the Study -Work balance and it is very important in education . Merely sitting inside the classroom the whole day, listening to lectures after lectures will make learning a monotonous and dreadful activity . Students need to love learn-ing and this is achieved by maintain-ing a Study - Work balance .

What does reading do to Your brain?

Reading is perhaps one of the best hobbies in the world.

1. Reading heightens brain connectivity.2. It expands a reader’s attention span.3. It rewires the brain and creates new white matter.4. It increases the capacity of your work-ing memory.5. It puts readers in the characters’ shoes, figuratively and biologically thereby developing creativity .

At Life Valley students are encour-aged to Read , Read and Read. The first year of formal education here starts with students listening to their teacher read out to them, they are then encouraged to “Pair Read” and “Group Read” after which they graduate to in-dependent reading. The early years

the poWer oF reAdinG !!!

programme is “Learning To Read” and then “Reading To Learn”. Once a child starts to read, official learning begins.

They need to read a lot of words, they can begin with their own name, names of friends, father, mother, siblings and advance to sight words and then rhym-ing and non-rhyming, sensible and non-sensible words.

They can read stories and then a whole new world opens up before them. They need to be guided to choose good books, later they start to choose on their own. Reading is what makes a differ-ence to a student when com-

pared to another. A well read student has an edge over oth-ers and is far more calm and

collected too.Do give your child the Reading

advantage, it is one of the best habits you can cultivate in them and it lasts

for a lifetime.

Grade 4 made “panakam” for their life skills.this was a drink that used to be served with sadhyas traditional-ly. it is also considered a summer drink because of its cooling effects. Thanks to Raji Teacher it came from their malayalam chapter.

Students joined together in prayer for the wild fires to end. They em-

pathised with the suffering people and most importantly understood why and how forest fires happen as well as its aftermaths.

Students were extremely sad-dened by the news of the death of millions of animals in the forest as a result of the fires. As news came in about the showers across the region

they were seen smiling. With the Ker-ala floods still fresh in their memories these students are witnessing large scale devastations unleashed by na-ture and promised to do their best if in their power to prevent any such disasters, a thought so pure that we can only hope it was possible.

The school st00d solemnly with the fire scathed nation and prayed for its speedy recovery.

The “Thattukada “ or a small shop/cart by the roadside selling food cooked “live “ is a concept hugely popular with us “Malayalees” who

love to have our dosas and omelettes straight out of the skillet. At school we set up such a shop and it was a huge hit with the parents

and students alike. This is the second time following the success of our first LVIS Expo that we introduced it.

The Radio Jockeys of our FM station chatted their hearts

out the entire length of the pro-gram. We have around half a dozen seasoned RJ’s who run the school radio on a daily basis.

Teacher’s day out !!!

The primary school gets to visit temples and learn all about the

festivities undertaken there during this month of festivals especially . The rituals and regimens behind each event is well explained to them by

seasons and Festivalsthe authorities at the temples . Each information is a valuable input as it enriches their knowledge about our diverse and rich culture , this also cre-ates in them a feeling of oneness with all religions .

This is that time of the year when a lot of parents go school hunting. The first timers seek a good pre

school to put their 3 and 4 year olds in and others are on the look out for a bet-ter one than the one they already put their kids in.

Now how does one know which is the appropriate one? This is purely one’s own discretion, many factors are involved here. The budget, the distance or accessibility, the board, the philoso-phies and practices, the popularity and past performances in various areas be it curricular or co curricular to name a few. Finally the choice is made and the child starts his or her school life. The school life of a child is considered one of the most important phases of one’s life span , the primary, elementary, high and higher secondary years are the forma-tion stages during which a human being grows most physically, mentally, emo-tionally and socially. That is 85 % of the brain’s functional growth stages happen during the school years .

There are times when students need to be shifted out of schools owing to un-avoidable reasons like a transfer or relo-

cation of the family. There are shifts hap-pening due to many avoidable reasons like the schools themselves sending out students who under perform or parents shifting them owing to a financial cri-sis or an academic crisis . The academic level of the school may be really poor making it difficult for the child to attain higher levels or the academic level may be good but there is too much pressure or stress on the child to perform .

So in all the “avoidable“ circumstanc-es, there is one and only one way to as-sess if you really need to shift out your child: Ask your child few questions “Do you feel sad studying in this school?” “Do you wish that the school closes?”,

“Do you want to be put in another school ?” . If your child’s answer is “YES” to all three..... you really need to pull your child out !!!!

If not it means your child is happy and that this is ultimately and absolute-ly what only “you” need and not your child, it is you who chose the school and not your child in the first place, it is not a silly thing for a child to be shifted from one school to the other owing to the changing fads and fancies of the par-ent. Do you know, a child who does not change school more than twice stands a better chance of topping in exams? Poor performers are always those who are made to shift schools whatever the

hoW to choose the riGht schoolreasons may be .

Therefore when choosing schools bear in mind, it should be a decision tak-en after considering all the important aspects that come along with it, stick on or move away only after considering your child’s happiness, it is for them that you invest your resources, they are the beneficiaries and their mental, physical and emotional health is not for a gam-ble. When we get queries from parents wanting to shift kids to our school from the neighbouring schools the first ques-tion we ask them is “why are you shift-ing them, are they not happy there?” And if the answer is yes ,they are very much happy and in fact want to contin-ue there but we want to shift them” , we strongly discourage them, but if the answer is “No, my child is fully stressed and doesn’t enjoy going to that school for whatever reason” we say ok, then you must shift them.

Ultimately children need to be happy and enjoy their precious school years and that is perhaps the biggest gift of a life time that you can present them with . Play with them but not their lives.

shhhhh....... surgery in progress

Drs. Text book surgery is a novel con-cept wherein students are asked

to dissect one particular feature from a non-fiction book or magazine and re-construct it on to a booklet. This way they learn different jargons like Glossa-ry, Text, Font, Bibliography, Headings, Caption, Contents etc and learn their features and how those are all applied. Since it was part of the termly thematic library activity, they got to dress accord-ingly .

This is a small spy robot, the size of an ant. It has four legs to

walk. There is a thing coming out of the eyes. This helps to camou-flage when threatened. This spy ro-bot can run really fast compared to its size. When it is spying, it uses it’s spy eyes. It helps spy its target. It will migrate to states where there is a lot of greenery. So it might mi-grate to Kerala. The spy robot is very smart.

Once mother and I went for a walk at 6 am. After a few minutes, when

we were coming back from the walk suddenly the rain came but the sun was shining. So I asked my mother why it was happening. She told me there will be a beautiful rainbow. I asked her, “What is a rainbow?” and she told me it is an arch in sky with seven colours. When I heard this I was delighted. I waited and sud-denly a beautiful rainbow came. That was the first time I ever saw a rainbow.
