Dear Friends,

The Friends Board wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to those of you who were able to attend and support the Friends 1st Annual Ladders and Linguine Dinner on February 22nd. When the Corona Public Library Foundation dissolved in December 2016 the Friends knew it wanted to continue the tradition of hosting the highly successful community event, Ladders and Linguine Dinner and Fundraiser. Under the leadership of Terri Jaggers and Len Enlow, former officers of the Foundation, plans began to form for the 2018 event.

A fantastic, hard working committee formed from Friends members, Board members, Trustees, our Library and Recreation Services Director and Assistant Director, city officials and local business people and community members. Work began in late 2017 and continued throughout the event. Response from the community generously helped with monetary donations, table sponsorships, individual tickets and both silent auction items and raffle basket prizes. This year’s Ladders and Linguine event was sold out a week before the dinner was held. Our local firemen were present again to serve dinner and drinks always adding a special touch to the event. The committee spread the event throughout the library to show the community all the wonderful things our library has to offer.

The goal of the L & L Committee was two fold – to raise money for the library’s literacy programs and to increase awareness of the presence of our library in the community. Ladders and Linguine 2018 raised nearly $16,000 – a significant amount! One of the moments that made me know that my tired feet and hours spent in planning and preparing were well worth it, happened when a local business owner stopped me to say he had enjoyed the evening tremendously. He mentioned he has driven by the library every evening for 23 years on his way home from work, thinking to himself, I should stop and check out the library. He has never stopped until that night. He was so impressed with all the library has to offer, from the BookShop to the Fish Tank and all that the Friends has done to support the library, that he now intends to stop frequently. He eyed the BookShop and wants to go back. He even took with him an application to join the Friends. And, he is definitely signing up to be a table sponsor next year! This was just one experience an attendee shared with us. Yes, the evening was a success both financially and by introducing the library to more users.

This year’s Ladders and Linguine was a tremendous success and the committee and the Friends Board want to extend our thanks to all of those who are Friends members, community members and city officials and staff who participated. One attendee mentioned that it was a lovely event, but that the Friends shouldn’t have to put on this kind of “fundraising” although it was noted that it looked like the committee was having “a lot of fun doing it.” (We were!) It is true we wish we didn’t have to do extensive fundraising in order to support the library and its programs, but the reality is we believe that the Corona Public Library is the cornerstone of our community and an important resource for its residents, and we are proud to do what we can to support it. Mark your calendars for February 21, 2019, as we will be hosting the 2nd Annual Ladders and Linguine Dinner and Fundraiser!

Warmly,

Kathy Wright

Hello my book-bosomed Friends! My name is

. I have been

volunteering since 2014. I

got my start stocking in

most areas of the

Bookshop. While I still

continue to stock and now

price, I focus my efforts on

the paperback general

fiction. But it doesn't stop

there! I also help list books on Amazon and

ship pending orders. My first term as a Board

Member-At-Large is in progress where I

process memberships and Adopt-A-Book

donations. You may see me around either

stocking the Bookshop, attending an author

event or the latest social gathering, or listening

to some fascinating speaker's experience. If

we cross paths I would be happy to be of help.

Interested in Supporting the Friends?? Here are some ways you can help --

There are so many ways to support the Friends organization. The first way is by becoming a Member (you’ve already done this by joining!) You can also volunteer to support the Friends through volunteering.

•The BookShop is our greatest volunteer opportunity from collecting the donated books, to sorting and pricing them, to stocking the shelves, and of course, sitting at the Front Desk selling all the books and other donated items. We currently have 48 BookShop volunteers who are asked to volunteer at least 8 hours a month.

•You may be interested in joining one of the many committees that have a variety of ways to support the Friends and their activities. Here is a brief list of these committees –

*Adopt-A-Book – help promote and process this program

*Author Events – serve on the committee to plan future author events and set up/clean up following events

*Community Outreach – attend library and community events to share Friends information with the community

*Fundraising – variety of committees supporting fundraising efforts

*Hospitality – preparing beverages and food at Friends events

*Ladders and Linguine Dinner – assist in a variety of ways from soliciting donations and table sponsors to set up and clean up following event

*Legacy Path – help with promoting the purchase of Legacy Path bricks

*Membership – encourage new members and process paperwork

*Recognition – help promote recognition opportunities for Friends and library staff, from birthday cards to Friend of the Year Awards

*Books For Babies – help promote this program with the Corona Regional Hospital

*Newsletter – work with the Editor to gather and write articles for the quarterly newsletter

Serving on a Friends Committee is a great way to learn more about the Friends and how we support the library.

• Serve on the Friends Board of Directors

-Executive Board = President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer

-Board Members-At-Large are responsible for special projects and ongoing activities such as Ladders & Linguine, Legacy Path, Books for Babies, Newsletter, Author Events, and Community Outreach.

If you are interested in learning more, please contact our current President, Kathy Wright at [email protected], (661) 993-3842 or by calling the BookShop Office at (951) 279-6604.

Come join us! We have a good time together and get lots accomplished for our wonderful library!!

The Friends would like to remind you of a special opportunity to remember

loved ones by purchasing a Legacy Path brick. The Legacy Path (the bricks that line the front walkway) is a wonderful way to celebrate the

people, occasions, awards, etc. in your life.

These bricks commemorate everything from births to deaths to anniversaries, retirements and graduations, and

much more. A small brick (4" x 8") is just $125 and a larger brick (8" x 8") is $250. If you are interested,

please go to the Library website and order one online.
