p.m. the Essa Public Library Angus Branchwill be hosting an Alzheimer Society’s CoffeeBreak. Come on out and support this worth-while charity by purchasing a cup of coffeeand socializing with the community at thesame time. Also available will be “MysteryBags,” a bag of 5 used books formerly fromthe library collection. Each bag costs $1 andwill contain a selection of books by genre.Proceeds from the coffee and mystery bagswill go to the Alzheimer Society. Grab your family, bring a snack, get comfy

“Ihave lost five uncles and two aunts from anassortment of cancers. A year ago, I told acolleague that I would be volunteering to

have my head shaved. I was advised that all I had to dowas sit in a fancy barber chair and relax; however, peo-ple still called me courageous and brave... I can tell you,that I am not.” Instead of taking recognition for herself,Master Corporal Nathalie De Placido told the story of afour-year-old girl, Brooklyn, who couldn’t be in atten-dance because she had to be at SickKids Hospital toreceive chemotherapy for a form of cancer that shestruggles to pronounce. MCpl De Placido spoke of howBrooklyn’s beautiful hair, which she would wear in aponytail, was falling out. How she is fighting for thechance to experience even the simplest parts of life thatwe take for granted, such as a first day at school, a highschool graduation in the years to follow, or even the

chance to have a wedding. “I am not brave, I am simplyreflecting the side-effect of her treatments. Brooklyn isbrave, and Terry Fox was brave.”The story of Terry Fox is one we all know as

Canadians, recognizing him as a national hero. The sto-ries of Brooklyn are lesser known, yet these are the sto-ries that touch us and encourage us to support the TerryFox Foundation every year. We empty our pockets tohelp fight a disease, run until we can’t take another stepin memory of Terry and shave our heads to show sup-port to our loved ones. Everyone on base at CFB Borden went above and

beyond this year, raising a total of $29,307 for the TerryFox Foundation.“Just unbelievable,” CFB Borden Commander,

Colonel Carl Doyon exclaimed. “All of this money isgoing for a good cause, cancer research. Borden againis doing its share to support our community, our lovedones and our friends that really need this money forresearch against cancer. Hope and inspiration, that’swhat this event is all about. The hope that one day thefight against cancer will be won.”Though Col Doyon spoke of hope, he left the ‘inspi-

ration’ part to Chief Warrant Officer Gilles Godbout.CWO Godbout took it upon himself to step up on stageand shave his head, and his famous moustache, much tothe pleasure of the crowd.Whether it was CWO Godbout, Terry Fox, a family

member or friend that has inspired you over the years toget out and participate, the value of the contributionscannot be understated. When Terry Fox ran back in1980, he had the hope of raising one dollar for everyCanadian. Since then, more than $650 million has beenraised to fight the battle against cancer.

chef Gilles Godbout, lacourse de Terry Fox, le sou-tien d’un membre de lafamille ou d’un ami quivous a poussé à participer,toutes ses contributions sontaussi importantes les unesque les autres. Quand TerryFox a terminé sa course, en1980, il espérait recueillirun dollar par Canadien.Depuis, plus de 650 millionsont été amassés pour luttercontre le cancer.

On 21 August, Brad Kinzett, from the AdminBranch, was “caught in the act”, when he was playingbubble soccer during a unit appreciation function.Brad is a PSP Fitness and Sports Instructor, and enjoysstaying active both at work and during his personaltime. Brad is currently assisting in a local off-ice hock-ey training program, training the RCEME Iron ManTeam and has been involved in coaching soccer.

Brad was rewarded for his efforts with an iTunesgift card.

Captain Suzanne McBride of theCanadian Forces LogisticsTraining Centre has had quite the

year. First, she won gold at the RegionalGolf tournament in Petawawa, Ontario fol-lowed by an invitation to the CISM TrainingCamp and went on to win gold at theNational Golf tournament in Shilo,Manitoba.

The CISM Training Camp was four daysof training before the National GolfTournament. The purpose was to help theathletes most likely to qualify for the CISMWorld Military Games prepare for the com-petition that lay ahead for them. “We got acouple hours of practice everyday, plus an18-hole round, it was some really good golf-a great tune up,” said McBride.That tune up definitely helped Suzanne

peak at Nationals, where she won gold andthe right to represent Canada at the CISMWorld Military Games this fall in SouthKorea. She’s hoping to get a similar result atthe end of September when she flies toVancouver for a few days of practice beforeheading to South Korea to participate in theCISM Summer Olympics.When she does get to South Korea,

McBride is hoping to get in at least two orthree practice rounds before the tournamentstarts. “I write notes on the course, I writenotes on the club I’m going to shoot, if thegreen is uphill front to back, if it has a rightto left slope. You write notes on the courseso you know where to go and where not togo, so the more places you are in your prac-tice round, the better set up you are for suc-cess.” There won’t be much time when she

lands in South Korea, and she is well awarethat if she wants to succeed, she needs tospend her time here in Canada preparing forthe tournament. “I’ll be playing every week-end and I’ll be going out to the range or thepractice facility two or three times a week.”The Captain also plans to research the golfcourse ahead of time and use GPS and rangefinding tools on the course in order to helpherself as much as she can, something thather fellow golfers suggested she start doinglast year. There are no caddies in military golf, so

Suzanne will rely on her research, and prac-tice alone to get around the course. Luckily,as a seasoned golfer, she has experience onher side. “I’ve been playing for 36 years. Ijoined a club at age 12, but actually, I wasswinging a club at age 5 or 6.” It is thatexperience that she will rely on in order tofinish well in October.

Captain McBride is acutely aware that itisn’t just her talent that is taking her toSouth Korea, as no athlete in the military isable to compete without the support of his orher Chain of Command.“Ultimately it comes down to this, you

can be the best golfer in the world, but youneed the support of your Chain ofCommand. I’m very lucky that my Chain ofCommand has been supportive and grantedme permission to go, because I have to man-age my work. I’m happy to come in early, tostay late and take work home to have thisopportunity, and that’s the price you pay.Ultimately, work comes first, we don’t getin the military to play golf, it’s a nice bonus

but work comes first. I’m very lucky thatmy schedule permits me to go and that myChain of Command supports me to go.”Suzanne McBride has earned her way to

South Korea, after years of competing hardand working even harder, she has beenrewarded with a tremendous opportunity,and that isn’t something that she forgets.“This is a lifetime opportunity to go to theseSummer Games this year. There will be7,500 athletes going this year, there will bean athlete’s village, it’s basically theMilitary Olympics. I’m not good enough togo to the Olympics in any sport, but youknow what, what an opportunity to wear theuniform and say ‘hey, I represent Canada.’”

canadiennes a eu toute une année. Elle a d’abord remporté l’or au tournoi région-al de golf à Petawawa, en Ontario, puis elle a reçu une invitation pour la période

d’entraînement dans le cadre du Programme de sports nationaux et internationaux desForces canadiennes (CISM) et enfin, elle a remporté l’or au tournoi national de golf à Shilo,au Manitoba.La période d’entraînement du CISM représentait quatre jours d’entraînement avant le

tournoi national de golf. Le but est d’aider les athlètes les plus susceptibles de se qualifierpour les Jeux mondiaux militaires du CISM à se préparer pour la compétition qui s’annonce.« Nous nous entraînions quelques heures, en plus de jouer une ronde de 18 trous. Le golfétait superbe. C’était une excellente occasion de se remettre à niveau », a dit le CaptMcBride.Cette mise à niveau a définitivement aidé Suzanne à performer au cours du tournoi

national puisqu’elle y a remporté l’or et le droit de représenter le Canada aux Jeux mondi-aux militaires du CISM cet automne en Corée du Sud. Elle espère avoir les mêmes résul-tats à la fin de septembre lorsqu’elle s’envolera pour Vancouver pour quelques jours d’en-traînement avant de partir pour la Corée du Sud afin de participer aux Jeux olympiquesd’été du CISM.Lorsqu’elle sera en Corée du Sud, le Capt McBride espère pouvoir jouer au moins deux

ou trois rondes avant le début du tournoi. « Je prends des notes sur le parcours, je prendsdes notes sur le bâton que j’utilise, je note si le vert est en pente de l’avant vers l’arrière, sila pente est de droite à gauche… Il faut prendre des notes sur le parcours de manière à savoiroù aller et où ne pas aller. Plus vous vous retrouvez à des endroits différents pendant laronde d’entraînement, plus vous êtes en mesure de réussir. » Il n’y aura pas beaucoup de temps libre lorsqu’elle atterrira en Corée du Sud et elle sait

que si elle veut gagner, elle doit consacrer son temps ici au Canada à se préparer pour letournoi. « Je jouerai toutes les fins de semaine et je serai sur le terrain d’exercice deux outrois fois semaine. » Capt McBride prévoit également faire de la recherche sur le parcoursde golf en plus d’utiliser le GPS et les outils de télémétrie sur place pour l’aider autant quepossible, ce que des collègues golfeurs lui ont suggéré de faire l’an dernier. Il n’y a pas de caddie dans le golf militaire, alors Suzanne devra se fier à sa propre

recherche et s’entraîner seule pour naviguer sur le parcours. Par chance, comme elle est unegolfeuse assidue, elle a l’expérience nécessaire. « Je joue au golf depuis maintenant 36 ans.J’ai joint un club à l’âge de 12 ans, mais j’ai commencé à swinguer vers 5 ou 6 ans. » C’estsur cette expérience qu’elle devra compter pour avoir de bons résultats en octobre. Le Capt McBride sait pertinemment que ce n’est pas que son talent qui lui permet d’aller

en Corée du Sud puisqu’aucune athlète militaire ne peut participer à des compétitions sansl’appui de sa chaîne de commandement.« En fin de compte, vous pouvez être le meilleur golfeur au monde, mais vous avez

besoin de l’appui de votre chaîne de commandement. Je suis très chanceuse d’avoir une

chaîne de commandement qui m’appuie et m’autorise à y aller parce que je dois aussi gérermon travail. J’entre au travail plus tôt le matin, je reste plus tard et j’apporte du travail à lamaison pour avoir cette chance. C’est le prix que je suis prête à payer… Le travail doit pass-er d’abord. On ne joint pas les Forces armées pour jouer au golf. Il s’agit d’une bonneprime, mais après le travail. Je suis très chanceuse que mon horaire me permettre d’y alleret que ma chaîne de commandement m’y autorise. »Suzanne McBride a fait son chemin vers la Corée du Sud, après des années de solide

compétition et de travail acharné, elle est récompensée par cette chance inouïe qu’elle n’ou-bliera jamais. « C’est l’occasion d’une vie d’aller aux Jeux d’été cette année. Il y aura 7 500athlètes, un village d’athlètes… En fait, ce sont des Jeux olympiques militaires. Je ne suispas assez bonne dans n’importe quel sport pour participer à des Jeux olympiques, mais voussavez quoi, quelle chance de porter l’uniforme et de dire : je représente le Canada. »

Green, it’s no longer just a colour,it’s an initiative for the world, away of life and a new-age way to

describe technology. On September 16, 2015 Green technolo-

gies were on display at CFB Borden at theEnvironmental Health and Safety andEnergy Management Expo.Front and center were some of the most

marketed Green technologies: electric vehi-cles (EV). Mitsubishi brought two cars tothe show for people to experience. Thoughthe Outlander PHEV was only a static dis-play, the i-MiEV Hatchback offered peoplea chance to get behind the wheel of an EVfor the first time.When getting behind the wheel to find no

noise, no indication that the car was evenrunning, apart from the satellite-navigationscreen coming to life, the engine wassmooth and powerful, dispelling a commonmisconception about the EV lacking power.The biggest surprise, however, is the cost torun the vehicle. Not only do you get a sub-stantial rebate from the government, youalso never have to pay for an oil-change orgas again, only the cost to charge the EV.Other exhibitors at the event included:

Conserval, who had their SolarWall on dis-play, a system that uses sunlight to heatbuildings. This technology can savebetween 20 per cent and 50 per cent of heat-ing fuel consumption and corresponding

green house gas emissions over the 30-year+ lifespan of the product.Other building technologies on display

include the building solutions offered bySprung Structures. “We can build anything:mess halls, hangars, we’ve built over tenthousand structures in over one hundredcountries,” said Max Leone, Business

Development Manager with Sprung. Thebuildings are designed to withstand any typeof weather, and can be insulated to work inthe Canadian winters. The limited founda-tion required means less impact on the envi-ronment than typical construction sites. Thatimpact is only lessened by the speed of con-struction, as 2,000 ft2 of building can go up

per day. Sprung Structures already hasbuildings in Gagetown and Petawawaaccording to Max Leone.Another interesting exhibit at the Expo

belonged to Swiss Eco Line, a companyfrom Switzerland that wants to change theway you wash your hands. Their faucets usea special spray technology, which uses 90per cent less water than a traditional faucet,and saves 100 per cent in energy because itdoesn’t use hot water. Marcel Hilgerink,General Manager of Swiss Eco Line inCanada and USA demonstrated how big of adifference a water faucet could make.Marcel showed that a regular faucet woulduse 6.5 L of water in just 30 seconds, whilethe Swiss Eco Line faucet would use only0.4 L in the same time. The Expo was a big success according to

event organizer, Alex Savu. “We put thistogether to promote energy awareness andenvironmental stewardship here on the Basefor all of the personnel who are here. Wehad the electric car out here where peoplecould go out and take a ride, and inside wehad all our subject matter experts. We’vehad some people come out, and we’re happywith it.”The Expo was the ninth annual event tak-

ing place during Environmental Week atCFB Borden. With so many technologiesand innovations on display during the Expo,it’s clear to see that we have only scratchedthe surface of efficiency when it comes toGreen technology.

Le moteur est doux et puis-sant, dissipant ainsi l’idée fausse très répandue que les VEmanquent de puissance. La plus grande surprise pour tousest, sans aucun doute, le coût d’utilisation du véhicule. Nonseulement obtient-on un rabais important du gouvernement,mais il n’y a plus de frais associés au changement d’huile etau plein de carburant, seulement les coûts du chargement duVE.Parmi les autres exposants se trouvait l’entreprise

Selon Max Leone, l’entreprise Sprung Structurescompte déjà des immeubles à Gagetown et à Petawawa.L’entreprise Swiss Eco Line était aussi présente à l’expo-

sition. Cette entreprise de la Suisse souhaite changer lafaçon de se laver les mains. Leurs robinets utilisent unetechnologie spéciale de jet d’eau, qui nécessite 90 pour centmoins d’eau qu’un robinet traditionnel, ce qui permet d’é-pargner 100 pour cent d’énergie puisqu’ils n’utilisent pasnon plus d’eau chaude. Marcel Hilgerink, directeur généralde Swiss Eco Line au Canada et aux É.-U. a démontré l’é-cart énorme par rapport à un robinet d’eau. M. Hilgerink adémontré qu’un robinet régulier utilise 6,5 L d’eau en 30secondes seulement, alors que le robinet Swiss Eco Linen’utilise que 0,4 L d’eau pour la même période. Alex Savu. « Nous avons organisé cette activitépour faire la promotion de la sensibilisation à l’énergie et dela gérance de l’environnement dans la base auprès de tousles membres du personnel qui y travaillent. Nous avions desvoitures électriques que les visiteurs pouvaient essayer, et àl’intérieur, nous avions tous nos experts. Des visiteurs sontvenus et nous en sommes très heureux. »L’exposition en était à sa neuvième année, et elle a eu

lieu au cours de la Semaine de l’environnement de la BFCBorden. Avec de si nombreuses technologies et innovationsexposées pendant la journée, il est évident que nous n’avonsque gratté la surface de l’efficacité qui vient avec la tech-nologie verte.

The morning of Sunday, September20, 2015 marked the 75th anniver-sary of the Battle of Britain,

where Veterans, members of 16 Wing, 400Squadron, Cadets, the Air ForceAssociation, members of various Legionsand other Veteran associations gathered atthe Cenotaph in Barrie to remember the sac-rifice of those who gave their lives duringthe Battle of Britain. “It is with humility that I preside over

today’s ceremony and parade, for I, for wecarry on the proud tradition of the RoyalCanadian Air Force (RCAF), because ofthose distinguished and brave Canadianswho served before us.” These words fromColonel Yve Thomson, Commander of 16Wing and Reviewing Officer for the event,echoed through the streets as those in atten-dance, including local dignitaries such asCouncillor Rose Romita, Mr. Cole Walsh,and representatives from several organiza-tions, listened in silence.

The British Commonwealth Air TrainingPlan (BCATP), of which Number 1 ServiceFlying Training School was located at 16Wing Borden, was Canada’s greatest contri-bution to the war effort, trainingCommonwealth air and ground crews,whose contributions were vital for victory.Col Thomson reminded us that the RCAFstands ready to respond when called upon,acknowledging that the world is a muchsmaller place today, but with modern capa-bilities the RCAF is able to deploy any-where, and, as always, serve with honour. Col Thomson shared a particularly diffi-

cult aspect of the battle: the damage done toLondon by the Luftwaffe after 57 consecu-tive days of bombing. Despite the tragiclosses suffered, the combined determinationand airpower of the Allied Forces causedHitler to suspend his efforts to invadeEngland and, as it turned out, he never againattempted an invasion of Britain again. “TheRCAF continues to be proud to stand shoul-der-to-shoulder with our Allies and as ourhistory shows us, we can be counted uponwhen the going gets tough. In a small way,this ceremony today, is our way of sayingthank you to the Veterans, those with usstill, and those who have gone before us,thank you for your leadership, for your men-torship, for your service and for the sacrificeand determination of all those who fought insupport of the Battle of Britain.”

a souligné l’importante contribution duCanada à une mission internationale qui amarqué un tournant dans le conflit, ainsi quele fait que c’est grâce à la victoire des Alliésque nous pouvons jouir de la liberté. « C’estavec humilité que je préside à la cérémonieet au défilé d’aujourd’hui, car – commenous tous, – je transmets fièrement les tradi-tions de l’Aviation royale du Canada (ARC)grâce aux valeureux Canadiens distinguésqui ont servi avant nous. » Les paroles ducolonel Yve Thomson, commandant de la16e Escadre et officier de la revue, réson-naient dans les rues pendant que les person-nes présentes, dont des dignitaires locaux,comme la conseillère municipale RoseRomita, M. Cole Walsh et des représentantsde plusieurs organisations, ont écouté dansle silence.Offert auparavant à partir de la 16e

The Canadian Forces Training DevelopmentCentre (CFTDC) underwent a Change ofCommand appointment from LCol David

Cameron to Cdr Bradley White. The day was marked witha small parade attended by unit members, command teamsfrom across MPGTG as well as the CFB BordenCommander, Col Carl Doyon.CFTDC was created in 1980 from what was known as

the Canadian Forces School of Instructional Technique(CFSIT). Based in CFB Clinton from 1966 to 1971 andthen in Borden afterwards, CFSIT’s role was to providespecialty training in methods of instruction and theCanadian Forces Individual Training System (CFITS).Upon transitioning to CFTDC, the unit became moredirectly involved in helping solve training problems for theCanadian Armed Forces (CAF), while still conductingtraining in the various aspects of the CFITS, which hassince evolved to the Canadian Forces Individual Trainingand Education System (CFITES). Today the unit is com-prised not only of training development expertise, but hasexpanded to include the training cadres of PersonnelSelection, Recruiting Group and Imagery Technicians.Speaking at the event, both Col Doyon and LCol

Cameron emphasized the contribution that CFTDC hasmade to the CAF’s recruiting, selection and training sys-tems. The incoming Commandant, Cdr White, highlightedthe unit’s continued commitment to achieving instructionalexcellence throughout the CAF. In addition to the change ofcommand, LCol Cameron received his first bar for hisCanadian Forces’ Decoration (CD1). Two Commander’sCommendations were also presented: the first one to Lt(N)

Dave Farmilo for his outstanding efforts in support of theDistributed Train the Trainer Program (DTTP) and the sec-ond to all the Imagery Technician personnel for their out-standing work in the last year. Finally, a certificate high-lighting her 35 years of service within the Canadian gov-

ernment was given to Mrs Sandy Mikita, Cdr White’sAdministrative Assistant at CFTDC. Accompanied by hisfamily, Cdr White was heartily welcomed by members ofthe unit during a small celebration immediately followinghis appointment as Commandant of CFTDC.

Le changement de Commandement entre le LcolDavid Cameron et le Capf Bradley White a eulieu au Centre de développement de l’instruc-

tion des Forces canadiennes (CDIFC). La journée a étémarquée par une petite parade à laquelle ont assisté lesmembres de l’unité, diverses équipes de commandementdu GIGPM ainsi que le Col Doyon, commandant de laBFC Borden. Le CDIFC a été créé en 1980 à partir de ce qui était

auparavant l’École de didactique des Forces canadiennes(EDFC). Situé à la BFC Clinton de 1966 à 1971 et par lasuite à Borden, le rôle de l’EDFC était de donner demeilleur outils pour améliorer les méthodes d’instruc-tions et le Système d’instruction individuelle des Forcescanadiennes (SIIFC). En devenant le CDIFC, l’unités’est retrouvée impliquée plus directement dans la réso-lution de problèmes liés à l’instruction dans les Forcesarmées canadiennes (FAC), tout en donnant toujours del’instruction dans les différents aspects du SIIFC, qui adepuis évolué pour devenir le Système de l’instructionindividuelle et de l’éducation des Forces canadiennes(SIIEFC). Aujourd’hui, l’unité n’inclut pas seulementl’expertise dans le développement de l’instruction, maiss’est diversifiée pour aussi inclure le cadre instructeurpour la sélection du personnel, le groupe du recrutementet les techniciens en imagerie. Lors de l’évènement, le Col Doyon et le Lcol

Cameron ont mis l’accent sur la contribution du CDIFCen ce qui a trait au recrutement, à la sélection du person-nel ainsi qu’aux systèmes d’instruction. Le nouveaucommandant, Capf White, a souligné l’engagement con-tinu du CDIFC envers l’accomplissement d’une excel-lence pédagogique à travers les FAC. En plus du change-ment de commandement, le Lcol Cameron a reçu sa pre-mière agrafe pour sa Décoration des Forces canadiennes(CD1). Deux mentions Mention élogieuse du comman-dant ont aussi été présentées : la première au LtvFarmillo pour son soutien exceptionnel au programme deformation à distance des instructeurs et la deuxième àl’ensemble du personnel des techniciens en imagerie duCDIFC pour leur travail exceptionnel au cours de ladernière année. Pour terminer, un certificat soulignantses 35 années de service au sein du gouvernement cana-dien a été remis à Mme Sandra Mikita, adjointe adminis-trative du Cdr White au CDIFC. Immédiatement après sanomination en tant que commandant du CDIFC, le CapfWhite, accompagné de sa famille, a été accueillichaleureusement par les membres de l’unité au coursd’une petite réception.

Presiding over the ceremony in which MajLeon Hachey transferred command of the

Academy to LCol Russell Defer, was theCommander of 16 Wing, Col Yve Thomson.The Royal Canadian Air Force Academy

(RCAF Academy) was stood-up in 1994under the umbrella of 16 Wing. The unitprovides leadership and management train-ing, broadens awareness of Royal CanadianAir Force (RCAF) heritage and develops

general service knowledge and professionalattributes among non-commissioned mem-bers. In his farewell comments, Maj Hachey

expressed that it was an honour and privi-lege to serve as the RCAF AcademyCommanding Officer (CO) for the past fouryears. He defined his relationship betweenhimself and the Academy as rather ‘atypi-cal’ as far as command relationships go, buthe believed they always found the right bal-ance to accomplish their goals, keeping inmind that the ultimate goal was the successof the Academy and the well-being of itspeople. Maj Hachey wished LCol Defer thevery best as he takes command of “a fineinstitution” that is the RCAF Academy.Col Thomson thanked Maj Hachey for

supporting the staff and students of theRCAF Academy. She thanked him for hishard work and efforts, applauding his suc-

cess at concurrently serving two commandportfolios and a senior staff position – nosmall task. Col Thomson welcomed LColDefer and congratulated him for beingselected to lead the RCAF Academy andexpressed her confidence that the Academywill greatly benefit from his insight andexperience.LCol Defer thanked Col Thomson and

shared with the attendees that the opportu-nity to command is what every officeraspires to. He offered to the AcademyCommandant (Cmdt), CWO MartinRousseau that “I have been a CO and I havebeen a Cmdt but never a CO working witha Cmdt and this will be great learningopportunity”. LCol Defer acknowledgedthe honour and expressed his excitement atthe opportunity to work with the RCAFAcademy staff.

Maj Hachey a souhaité bonne chance auLcol Defer qui prend le commandementd’un « établissement de premier ordre »,l’École COM Air.Le Col Thomson a remercié le Maj

Hachey du soutien qu’il a offert au person-nel et aux stagiaires de l’École. key. This was verified by the police offi-cer and public trustee official who foundthe money with Chevrier. The judgedecided Zachariuc intended to recover theproperty if he did not die, since he askedChevrier to return the next day to witness"the paper". In the result, Chevrier got to keep the

Deacon Dominic Jude Sasco

Dominic passed away at his home on 14 September 2015, in Angus, Ontario,

at the age of 72.Born on 14 November 1942 in Sydney,Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Dominic wasthe much loved son of Michel andMargaret Sasco (pre-deceased) whotaught him the values he lived by, dignity,patience, forgiveness – and foremost faithwhich became his compass of daily life.

Cape Breton could not contain his adventurous spirit and as a young man he enlistedwith the Royal Canadian Air Force. Dominic’s passion was photography. As a militaryphotographer, his service took him on adventures to countless places across Canada andEurope, as well as postings with the United Nations in the Middle East (Golan Heights).He made many friends along the way and accumulated countless interesting stories andfacts. He retired from service as a Warrant Officer in 1993, after serving for 31 years.However, he remained active as a teacher of photography students and cadets for manyyears into his retirement. In 1987, on his last posting, Dominic met his future wife andlove of his life and they would spend 25 wonderful years together. Left to mourn is hisbeloved wife Paulette (nee Haskett) for whom Dominic was the earth beneath her feet,the wind at her back, the moon that guided her and the sun that forever will shine onher. Also left to mourn, are his cherished sons John (Patricia) and Peter (Glendys), andgrandsons Janusz, Sebastian and Peter for whom he was a grand-père extraordinaire. Hewas the loving brother of Donald and Clare Sasco of Sydney, Cape Breton and Jane andBrian Leslie of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dominic also leaves behind his loving in-laws,Claudette (Johnny deceased) Stebbings, Rolly and Marlene Haskett, Janette (Mikedeceased) Wessel, Barbie and Bruce Bonnyman, and Joanie and Lloyd Millson. He wasthe much loved and most special Uncle Dom to Michael, Robert, Kelli, Nicole andMichelle, and other many nieces and nephews in his extended family. Dominic wasOrdained to the Diaconate at St. Michael’s Cathedral on 19 June 2004. Deacon Dominicserved his Ministry at Holy Spirit Parish in Barrie, ON and leaves behind Pastor TadWalczyk and many parishioners whom he loved – beyond words. The Diaconate com-munity, most especially the North Group, mourn the loss of their dedicated brother. Hewill be greatly missed by all. Dominic was always respected for his strong convictionsand unscripted remarks, for his kindness, steadfast dependability and his deep devotionto our Blessed Mother Mary and Her Beloved Son, Jesus. He will be dependentlymissed by both family and friends who were fortunate enough to have known him best.If there comes a day when we can’t be together – keep me in your heart – I’ll stay thereforever – ‘Winnie the Poo’. Friends may pay their respect at Holy Spirit Parish, 650Essa Road, Barrie, on Friday, September 18th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass of aChristian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Parish, 650 Essa Road, Barrie, on Saturday,September 19th 2015 at 10:30 am. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 208 SunnidaleRoad, Barrie.
