New cases include A Keith County resident, a male in his 20’s who is self-isolating at home, and the case is related to community spread. The other is a Furnas County resident, a male in his 20’s who is self-isolating at home, related to travel. Neither of these positive cases are results from the TestNebraska events this week. These cases bring the total to 22 confirmed COVID-19 cases in SWNPHD. Eighteen of the cases have recovered, meaning they are no longer showing symptoms and have met the criteria to be released from self-isolation. Currently only international travelers are required to self-quarantine for 14 days; how- ever, SWNPHD and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Ser- vices (DHHS) recommend that all returning travelers limit public interac- tions, practice strict social distancing, and self-monitor for symptoms. Symp- toms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, chills or shaking, muscle pain, headache, or new loss of taste or smell. Any- one with symptoms is encouraged to contact their healthcare provider for testing. SILVER SHOVEL AWARD Governor Pete Ricketts announced that Nebraska has received a major economic development award. For the second year in a row, Area Devel- opment the leading executive magazine covering corporate site selection and relocation has honored the State with a Silver Shovel. The award rec- ognizes Nebraska’s successful recruitment of high-value, job-creating in- vestment projects in 2019. “Nebraska continues to attract major invest- ments from internationally renowned job creators thanks to our hardwork- ing people, welcoming communities, and business-friendly climate,” said Gov. Ricketts. “The Silver Shovel Award underscores our state’s reputation as a great place to invest and grow a business.” The Gold and Silver Shovel Awards rank each states ten biggest investment or expansion pro- jects on a combination of weighted factors including new jobs per capita, combined investments, new facilities, and industry diversity. Overall, the top ten projects in Nebraska created more than 900 jobs and totalled nearly $1.9 billion in new investment. “The industry diversity represented by these ten projects from technology, to manufacturing, to renewable energy is the result of a pro-growth environment where any businesses or industry can be positioned to succeed,” said Nebraska Department of Eco- nomic Development Director Anthony L. Goins. “We are proud to once again be recognized for our strength at attracting world-class firms that create economic opportunities for the people of our state.” 2020 ANGELS IN ADOPTION AWARD Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) opened nominations this week for the 2020 Angels in Adoption Award for Nebraska’s Third District. Angels in Adoption, a project of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, provides Members of Congress the opportunity to honor an individual or entity from their districts for extraordinary contributions on behalf of chil- dren in need of homes. “In times of hardship, we can be heartened by those doing good works in our communities such as the families in the Third District who open their homes to children in need. The 2020 Angels in Adoption Award will seek to highlight those serving our community and the love they provide to youth in need of adoption and foster care. I look for- ward to reviewing the nominations.” STOCKS DOW 299.66 TO 25,745.60 NASDAQ 107.837 TO 10,017.00 FRIDAY JUNE 26, 2020 Newsflash [email protected] 308-345-5400 www.highplainsradio.net TODAY Mostly Sunny High 89 SUN Hot High 97 SAT Mostly Sunny High 92 WEATHER We accept Covid Cash PIRATE PETE LISTEN TO KICX AND THE HAWK FOR PIRATE PETE CLUES!

SPORTS The Final of the 53rd Nebraska Match Play Championship is set, and

it’s an incredible match-up of the top two seeds, Luke Kluver of

Norfolk and Ryan Nietfeldt of Elkhorn. Kluver, who will be sopho-

more on the Kansas Jayhawk golf team in the fall, is looking for his

first NGA title and could also become the first No. 1 seed to win the

title since 2012. Kevin Stanek of Bellevue won that year as the top

seed, claiming his second-straight title. It wasn’t easy for Kluver on

Thursday though, as he faced a couple tough tests. Nietfeldt is now

one behind Knox Jones of Lincoln in finals appearances. With a win

on Friday, he’d also set the record for the longest span between

victories. It would be 17 years between wins for the 2003 Champion,

breaking another Knox Jones’ record of 15 years between his 1979

and 1994 wins.

Three weeks into voluntary workouts, it is unclear whether any

Nebraska student-athletes who have returned to campus have

tested positive for the coronavirus because unlike some athletic

departments, NU is choosing not to say anything publicly about

COVID-19 testing results. NU officials say only that they are required

to report any positive test to the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health

Department, which says it can’t release any information about what

the university has reported because of privacy requirements. “It is

up to the university to share whether they have an athlete test

positive. We don’t provide this information about any business or

organization,” said Diane Gonzolas, director of communications for

the Lincoln Mayor’s Office. “If a business or organization wants to

share information about their employees or athletes in this case,

then we can confirm information that they share. This is how the

Health Department handles all communicable diseases.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY

A lot of times I find that people who are

blessed with the most talent don’t ever

develop that attitude, and the ones who

aren’t blessed in that way are the most

competitive and have the biggest heart
