ARTS ACADEMY NEWS On Tuesday 18th December, the newly established KS3 Rainhill Choir visited Sherdley
Court Care Home in Rainhill to bring some festive spirit to the community and have a
sing song with the residents.
Fifteen students in Years 7 and 8 enjoyed an afternoon of Carol Singing and shared
some festive favourites with the residents.
Well done to Miss Devlin and Miss Mellor for their work with the choir this term, we look
forward to what the choir can achieve next term!

CAREERS INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE AT RAINHILL SIXTH FORM WEBSITE Here at Sixth Form, we pride ourselves on providing excellent careers education,
advice and guidance in line with the Gatsby Benchmark Framework for good careers
guidance. The Gatsby Benchmarks were introduced to schools in 2014 and by 2020,
all careers provision in schools need to be in line with them. You can read more about
the Gatsby Benchmarks here:
http://www.gatsby.org.uk/uploads/education/reports/pdf/gatsby-sir-john-holman-
good-career-guidance-2014.pdf
There are eight Gatsby Benchmarks in total and each week in the parent newsletter,
we will be highlighting how we hit these in the Sixth Form and inform you of how you
can access more information on these areas to support your child.
The first Gatsby Benchmark outlines: "Every school and college should have an
embedded programme of career education and guidance that is known and
understood by pupils, parents, teachers, governors and employers." (Gatsby, 2014)
Our stable careers programme is published on our Sixth Form website in September
and updated throughout the year:
https://www.rainhillsixthform.org.uk/progression-and-careers-programme/
Along with this, careers information and information about the Super Curriculum
programme is provided at the 'Welcome to Sixth Form' evening for Year 12 parents.
Further, we hold a 'Progression Evening' for parents of Year 12 in May where university,
degree apprenticeship providers and apprenticeship providers come and speak to
parents about Post 18 options.
Last but not least, our progression, careers and Super Curriuclum events are all
documented on our website and social media. Why not check out our latest news
section on the Rainhill Sixth Form website or follow us on Facebook, Twitter or
Instagram:

If you are a Parent/Guardian of a Sixth Form student, you should have received an
email regarding our review of careers education, advice and guidance. We would
appreciate if you took 5 minutes to complete it:

ENTERPRISE COMPETITION COULD SEE A RAINHILL SIXTH FORM STUDENT
WIN £600 WORTH OF TECH GADGETS In conjunction with Unifrog (www.unifrog.org), Year 12 and 13 students are taking on a
half term enterprise competition, which could see them win £600 worth of tech
gadgets.
Enterprise helps students to develop key skills for their future careers. Team work,
communication, innovation and organisation skills are not only needed to succeed as
a business owner, but in all careers, so taking part in enterprise activities are good for
all students.
During Form and PSE, students will develop their own business plan in teams of six,
looking at marketing, revenue and supply chains. Working with their tutors and
supported by Unifrog and Sixth Form resources, the six week project will culminate in
students feeding back their ideas to the class in a Dragon's Den style presentation.
Students will have the chance to win two prizes by taking part in this competition. The
best business plan will be entered in the national Unifrog competition with students
having a chance to win £600 worth of tech gadgets. In addition, Rainhill Sixth Form will
be offering a prize to the runner up team.
Miss Morrell, Key Stage 5 Learning Mentor.

be undertaking assessments in the subjects they are currently studying. For both
A-level and BTEC subjects, these assessments will be based on past paper questions
and indeed complete papers, and will be taken under exam conditions to best
prepare your son/daughter for final examinations in May/June 2019.
Please see below the exam timetable so your son/daughter is aware of when their
examinations take place. All morning exams will start as soon as possible at 9:00am.
It is vital that your son/daughter is in school and registered at 8:50am with their tutor

Afternoon examinations commence at 1:10pm. Your son/daughter should report to
the Arts Theatre/Gym immediately from lunch.
Please could you encourage and support your son/daughter to prepare thoroughly
