Only two and a bit more weeks until the end of the school year now. It is counting down very fast! We are very excited to see our 2018 Year Book has arrived at school and is now available for purchase. It looks absolutely stunning! Well done to Aynsley Moore and the media team for a superb record of our 2018 year. Congratulations to our kapa haka team for their outstanding performance at the Raurimu School Festival on Thursday. We are so proud of you all! We would like to thank Shane and Yvonne Maunsell for the excellent work they do teaching our children kapa haka. Thanks also to Karen Johnsen for organising our participation in this event, and to our fabulous teacher aides for doing such a great job of keeping our costumes maintained. We are very sad to report that the school was broken into on Thursday night and several valuable digital devices were stolen including a teacher laptop, which is extremely distressing! Please be on the alert and keep an eye out for any Apple laptops, desktop computers and iPads that may suddenly appear. I would also take this opportunity to remind parents that it is not okay to approach other parents about incidents that have happened between their children during the school day. This can be deemed as intimidating or aggressive behaviour that is not acceptable at our school. School staff are very vigilant about addressing unacceptable behaviours at school and we follow up on concerns that are raised by children or parents. If you think there is an issue with your child, please bring it up with the teachers and they will investigate. It is important to remember that children’s perceptions differ, and parents may not be getting the whole story. There are generally two sides to a story. We would hate to hear that any of our families are being made to feel unsafe. However, please let us know if you are being approached in an intimidating manner by any of our school parents about school related matters. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend. Yesterday the Senior Performance group attended the Kapa Haka festival at Raurimu School. All 41 students from Pods 1, 2 and 4 were outstanding in their behaviour and performance, and were a real credit to Hurupaki School. We were all so proud of their efforts, and they looked and sounded amazing.

A special thank you to Kaylee Waker, Judith Campbell, Ilona Harris, Pathai Pornnikom, Mike Gwilliam, and Russell Plank for helping the teachers and students. We also appreciated the whanau who came along to support the group.

The students are now looking forward to performing at the final assembly on Wednesday 19 December.

Kapa Haka Thank You We are making a holiday hamper as a thank you to Matua Shane and Whaea Yvonne, our fabulous kapa haka tutuors. Could all donations for the hamper please be put in the box in the office by Tuesday 11 December. We will then be presenting the hamper at the final whole school kapa haka sesion for 2018, on Wednesday 12 December. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come in and see Karen Johnsen or email her on [email protected]. Thank you in advance for your kind donations.

What do you get for those grandparents that have everything? Do you need stocking fillers? Do you need a present for a Secret Santa? We have the perfect solution. Buy some Hurupaki-made beeswax wraps or kawakawa balm. The Enviro Green Team spent Wednesday lunchtime making the next batch of beeswax wraps. They are on sale in the office at $6.00 for the 30x30cm size and $5.00 for the 30x21cm size. The 30x30cm is large enough to fit an adult’s overfilled sandwich and the 30x21cm are still big enough for a child’s sandwich. We also have kawakawa balm for sale at $8.00 for a small jar and $15.00 for a large one. All of these are much cheaper than you will find buying from a market or shop. These both make perfect presents for all ages and the money goes to provide more environmental experiences for our children. Mrs Howett and the Enviro Green Team
