An eclectic range of acts included singer-songwriters, bands, choirs, an acapella group, gymnasts and dancers, and everyone took the competition very seriously and demonstrated great courage, skill and talent. This House competition, ably led by the House Prefects will, I am sure, become a tradition and I am very grateful to everyone who was involved, especially our judges Mr Smye and Mrs Hope-Wynne who had the unenviable task of choosing a winner. Many congratulations to Victoria Jetten and Liberty Campbell who won first prize for their amazing gymnastic routine. Written exams are still a few weeks away but our A Level PE and MFL students have successfully completed their practical and oral exams this week and impressed all their teachers with their commitment and focus. Drama students are next, and we look forward to their preparatory performances on Friday afternoon. We are trying hard to support students manage their understandable anxieties about their exams. The amount to learn can seem insurmountable at this stage and we are all here to help students plan their time and help them feel that it is manageable. We want students to feel confident and positive; the most important thing is that they feel able to do their best. Please alert us to any additional support that you feel your daughter needs at this time. You may have seen the press coverage of the White Paper, Educational Excellence Everywhere, particularly on the issue of compulsory academisation for all schools. Whilst Rosebery is already an academy, we will need to determine the formation of a formal partnership with other schools in a Multi Academy Trust before too long. Finally, can I ask for your support, once again, in ensuring your daughter comes to school in the correct uniform and without jewellery and make up. I would also be very grateful if you could not drive down Whitehorse Drive at the beginning or end of the day. The risk of an accident is heightened by the high levels of traffic in this very narrow road. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend. Ros Allen @RoseberyHT

    School Run Parking

As a school we are very fortunate to be located in a quiet residential

area and we want to be considered to be good neighbours. To help

us in this aim please can you ensure that all drop offs and pickups

are conducted in a considerate way. Unfortunately a number of our

community have not been considerate in their parking blocking

driveways and parking in disabled and residential bays. Whilst we

appreciate parking is at a premium please can we request that all drivers park appropriately an in such a way as to not

create a nuisance for residents or other road users. Thank you.

    Rosebery Rider – Megan Long

My horse is called Izzy and I have owned her for nearly 2 years.

I have been competing in dressage since the age of 7 although

have been riding for as long as I can remember. Dressage is

different to the other disciplines I compete in (Show jumping

and Cross Country) as it requires much more focus, accuracy

and engagement from both the horse and rider. You can

practise for a dressage competition for as long as a month in

advance but it depends on personal preference! On Friday, I

was granted an authorised absence to go and compete in the National Schools Equestrian Association Championships

for dressage after qualifying previously. Izzy rode a lovely test to leave us 8th overall and 2nd in my Prelim test. I really

enjoyed attending and meeting lots of other riders from different schools. I can't wait to represent Rosebery again!

By Anna Turner – Year 8

“I went to Cornwall in the Easter holidays and performed Oliver! The show production, all week at the Minack Theatre.

The theatre is built into the cliff side with steep steps and terraced seating. It is in Porthcurno in Cornwall and it is right

at the end of the country, next to Lands End. It was really fun because I was with all of my out-of-school friends. The

dressing rooms are really cool because you have to go down a staircase and the dressing rooms are built into the rocks

below. I did 4 shows in total: one on Monday two on Tuesday and another on Friday. The Minack was built by a lady

named Rowena Cade and she built it all by herself with her gardener. She built it so her and her friends could put on

plays to entertain themselves. Oliver! is about a boy called Oliver who lives in the workhouse who angers the people

in charge and is sold to a funeral director. He soon escapes from there and meets a pickpocket named Dodger who

introduces him to his friends. Oliver gets caught and taken to an old man’s house. The man soon figures out that Oliver

is his daughter’s son. Meanwhile a man named Bill Sykes is on the lookout for Oliver because he is afraid that Oliver

will tell the man about them pickpocketing. He finds Oliver and soon takes him back. Bill Sykes' girlfriend steals Oliver

to give him back to his grandfather but is caught by Sykes and he kills her, Bill flees with Oliver but is shot therefore,

setting Oliver free. He is then returned back to safety”.

    Rosebery’s Got Talent 2016!

    In the frame:

Mr Neil Smye, Florrie Petit, Erin Costello, Liberty Campbell, Victoria Jetten, Dhivia Umashankar and Mrs Suzanne Hope-Wynne.

As members of this thriving community, we are all very aware of the talents of our students although some have remained hidden – until now! Our House Leaders and their Prefect teams auditioned over 50 different acts and only 11 were selected to participate in the Final. Thank you to every student who put themselves forward for this inaugural event; don’t give up and try again next time!

The Final on Tuesday 26th April was eagerly anticipated, not least because we were pleased to welcome two performing arts professionals to assist us. Mr Neil Smye and Mrs Suzanne Hope –Wynne agreed to come along for the unenviable task of choosing the top acts on the night.

We were also treated to a showcase performance from our Rosebery Singers who achieved success recently at the Leith Hill Music Festival. The House Prefect team and Head Girls were an amazing ‘crew’, both Front of House and backstage – thank you for being there to support your students and the House staff.

A packed audience came to watch the show in the Drama studios and they were not disappointed! The diversity and variety of performances was amazing and included acapella group singing, guitarists, singers, keyboard players, dancers, a harpist and a gymnastic duo who defied gravity! The adjudicators had a really tough time making their decision but eventually concluded that the Rosebery’s Got Talent trophy should be awarded to Liberty Campbell and Victoria Jetten for their skilful gymnastics and thoroughly entertaining take on a James Bond theme. Their skills were all the more admirable due to their hastily reworked routine because Molly Chartres who made up the original trio was injured (playing rugby!) Second place went to a singing, guitar -playing duo – Florrie Petit and Erin Costello and Third place was awarded to the melodic Dhivia Umashankar.

All participants received feedback from the adjudicators and specially designed certificates created by Mrs St John and Mrs Jolly. The House Leaders would like to thank everyone who joined in with this new event for Rosebery – hopefully the first of many!
