Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,

Today’s assembly was amazing. I particularly enjoyed the combined drumming group performance and seeing so many of our students receive awards. As we start to wrap up term 3, it is a time for evaluation of our school goals and plans in preparation for the coming year. Early in Term 4, we will be encouraging parents to complete the Tell Them From Me Surveys for students, staff and parents to ensure we have a clear picture of views of what is happening for students in our school.

Please remember our PBL reward day is on Friday 28th of September which is also the last day of Term.

NAPLAN Results

NAPLAN results for students in Year 3 and Year 5 went home to parents today. While you are reviewing the results, it is important to remember that it is a snapshot in time of a series of diagnostic tests that occurred in May.

The NAPLAN results provide parents a look at how their children are progressing in comparison to other students in their local area and across Australia. If you have any questions regarding the results please feel free to discuss with your child’s classroom teacher.

Congratulations to all Year 3 and Year 5 students for their efforts with NAPLAN testing in 2018.

Continuing Enrolments for 2019

If your child is leaving our school and will not require a place at Gunnedah South Public School in 2019 can you please let the office know immediately. We are currently organising class structures for 2019, so it is essential that we are informed of any students who are leaving. Similarly, if you know of any new students moving into the area please let them know to enrol now for 2019.

Uniform transition period – Winter to Summer uniform

Currently the temperature is fluctuating between hot and cold and parents, carers are encouraged to make the decision whether students wear winter or summer uniform for the remainder of the term. The date for all students to wear summer uniform is Monday 15th of October. Uniform change over periods will be advertised in the 2019 calendar which will be sent to families at the beginning of next year. Our school stocks a range of summer uniforms, with the girls’ dresses due to arrive in time for the new school year.

Lost Property

Please help us to find a home for the large and growing number of clothing articles that have found themselves without an owner in our school lost property bins and hanging in classrooms without names waiting to be claimed.

Students and parents can find lost property items:

Infants lost property can be found in the coloured bins outside 2M.

Primary lost property can be found in the giant trolley under the Primary Cola.

All unclaimed items will be washed and donated to local charities at the end of this term.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students who represented South and The Gunnedah Zone at the North West Athletics Carnival today. I certainly am looking forward to hearing the results!

Kindest Regards,

Pete Baum

This week our PBL focus was on being Safe, Respectful, Learners at the Canteen. Below is the matrix of expected behaviours we adhere to while using the canteen. You may wish to talk with your child/ren about their understandings of these expectations. Southey had a quiet word to Mrs Tydd this week and is pleased to report that GSPS students demonstrated being Respectful by making sure they listened, cooperated and

importantly used their manners. Congratulations. Keep up the awesome effort GSPS!

On the following pages are some work samples classes created to show their understanding of correct canteen procedures and expectations. Please enjoy the comic strips!

Parent & Volunteer Afternoon Tea Rescheduled

Due to a number of events occurring between now and the end of term we have made the decision to reschedule the previously advertised afternoon tea to thank all our volunteers. It is likely that we will hold this event on International Volunteers Day on December 5th, 2018 but this will be confirmed early in Term 4. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Year 1 Excursion

On Friday 14th September, Year 1 excitedly boarded the bus and were on their way to Tamworth for their school excursion.

The day began with a very colourful and  entertaining theatre show. The children were enthralled and loved watching “Josephine Wants to Dance”; a show that taught us we can achieve anything if we try.

A er that, we stopped at a park for lunch. We had a great  me playing with our friends.

Finally, we visited the Westpac Helicopter.  Unfortunately, the helicopter was out on a mission saving someone’s life so we didn't get to see it. But our guide, Tamara, read us a book about the helicopter and answered lots of ques ons. We also got to see the area where the helicopter is housed and look at some equipment.

Special thanks to our parent volunteers who came along on our adventure with us.

My favourite part of the excursion was watching ‘Josephine Wants to Dance’ because I liked watching her dancing

around the stage. Sienna S.

My favourite part was at the helicopter because she told us a story about the helicopter and it helps people.

Ryder.

On Friday the 7th of September, infants and primary students performed at Gunnedah Dance Eisteddfod. Infants students performed a ribbon

Cook Off #4 2018

On Monday afternoon, we (SAKG team) held our 4th Kitchen Cook Off of the year. Five teams arrived ready for the challenge and what a challenge it was. We thought we would mix things up a little by giving the teams a recipe that they have never cooked at school before, Chicken and Vegetable Rice Paper Rolls. This recipe involved precision cutting and rolling.

All of our teams took this challenge in their stride and prepared incredible samples for our judges to taste. The teams were also given points on how well they followed the recipe, the cleanliness of their kitchen and the presentation of their dish. With all points added together, all teams were extremely close. However, on this day, we had two teams with the top mark. The winners of our 4th Cook Off of the year were… Claire Barnes and Sophie Bush in the orange kitchen and Amy Sams and her Mum, Elsie in the red kitchen. Well done ladies!

Our other amazing teams were– In the green kitchen, Tiah Small and Jayla Battis. In the blue kitchen, Ted Pease and Oscar Donoghue. In the purple kitchen, Charli Alvey and Jess Ferguson. Top effort!
