Headteacher’s update
Dear Parents/Carers,
We have all had a very exciting time celebrating National Science Week in style throughout the school.
We began on Monday and Tuesday by planning and carrying out a range of science investigations including
looking at the effects of sun on our bodies with UV beads, investigating the digestive system (using a pair of
tights!) and testing our different senses.
On Wednesday we were visited by the ‘Mad Science’ team who started off by showing us lots of amazing science
in a whole school assembly and then involved all of the children in hands-on science workshops including making
‘space slime’, creating fizzy explosions and trying out some crazy chemistry!
On Thursday all of the children were involved in a range of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths)
challenges. In KS2, the children explored ways to maximise air resistance as they competed to design the
most effective parachute for Spiderman! In KS1 and Reception, the children enjoyed a variety of interactive
challenges including building spaghetti towers, magic magnet painting, creating rocket balloons and testing
which cereal gets the soggiest!
Our action-packed week culminated in a science celebration assembly this morning in which children from each
year group shared some of the exciting things that they had done through the week.
Our Yr 2 children completed their ‘Transport’ topic with a visit to Coventry Transport Museum today. They had
great fun finding out all about the timeline of the bicycle through history and looking at the designs of Victorian
cycles.
Class 3R enjoyed an exhilarating fun family fitness session this afternoon as Mrs Johnson put them through their
paces in a range of activities involving a variety of ball skills and mini games. Great fun was had by all!
It was lovely to see so many of you at our parents’ evenings this week, we hope that you found the opportunity
to meet with your child’s teacher and look at your child’s work valuable. We will be holding our final session for
Reception and KS1 next Wednesday.
We look forward to seeing our Yr 3 children, who are preparing for their First Holy Communion, at Mass on
Sunday as we thank God for the gift of new life. Please remember to bring along a small gift (eg, a plant/
flowers/fruit), which the children can present to the parishioners after Mass, if you are able to.
We have lots of exciting things taking place in school next week including our special ‘Vocations Day’ on Monday
where we will be spending time, as a whole school, thinking about how God is calling us all to make the best
possible use of our own special gifts and talents.
Congratulations to our dedicated librarians who raised a fantastic £61.86 for library resources by selling their
homemade book marks! We are looking forward to working with them on how they would like to see the money
spent!
Best of luck to our yr 4 footballers who are competing in the Sports Stars Tournament this afternoon – we can’t
wait to hear all about it!
Enjoy the weekend

We are delighted to announce that staff and parents can now access an innovative ONLINE course about children,
worth £39, completely free of charge. Understanding Your Child is put together by the Solihull Approach, an accredit-
ed, evidence based approach established 20 years ago by psychologists, health visitors and other health profession-
als.
The course usually costs £39 per person. However using the coupon code listed below you can access them at
www.ourplace/learn.co.uk where you can register for your own account and revisit the course indefinitely without pay-
ing a penny.
Understanding Your Child is for parents, carers, and professionals caring for children aged 0-18 years. It looks at
brain development, play, styles of parenting, sleep, temper tantrums, communication and more and is based on the
nationally and internationally acclaimed face to face course offered by the Solihull Approach.
“This has been a really valuable experience that in a way will impact on many aspects of my life”
“This course has been an absolutely invaluable gift to me. It has and will change so many aspects of my life. I am
undoubtedly a better parent and more rounded and fulfilled person as a result. Some aspects have literally been like
‘Eureka’ moments to me! I WISH I’d known all this years ago”
“The Solihull Approach course I did made it clear parents don’t need lessons: daily life throws us enough of those.
What we need is the space to step back and observe our children. We need some structured guidance to help us re-
flect on all the factors that make them behave the way they do; some developmental, some circumstantial.”
“I have found the online course very useful. Now, I take time to think more during difficult situations and during argu-
ments with my kids.”
