Dear Parents/Carers, During the cold weather spell this week we have been opening up doors early to allow the children in out of the cold and for you to be able to get to work / home as quick as possible. In future this will be the case when we have extreme weather like we have seen this week. Mr Burke and our gritting team always ensure they are out early to make our site and the footpaths directly outside as safe as possible. I will however urge you to take extreme care when accessing the school grounds as conditions can change quickly. Please stay on the paths that have been gritted and do not allow your children to run. On Wednesday the children had a great time playing out in the snow. It’s not often that we have snow, so we took the opportunity to allow the children to have some extra fun. This week we have asked parents to update their contact details with us. This is because we now have a new communication service that allows parents to receive both and respond to emails and texts. In addition you will also be able to download an app to your phone that allows you to receive alerts for newsletters and reports as well as see your child’s current attendance. Please take the time to complete this form and return it to school as we have never requested email addresses before. Over the next week we are launching our fantastic new website. We are extremely excited about this as there are many new features and photographs to share with you. Our website will be a key tool to share information. On there you will find our policies, term dates and lots more of the information that you frequently request. Each week we will have our newsletter uploaded onto the website which I will be able to send out via a link on our new system mentioned above and our Twitter feed. Have a lovely weekend.

Since September 3/4M have been learning to play the clarinet. We have progressed to learn how to play three different notes within a piece of music, E, F and G. We are now becoming speedy at setting up our own clarinet and know why it is so important to protect our reeds.

When we are playing to music now, there are a lot less squeaks as we have developed our skill. We can identify different notes in a piece of music and have improved our skills in playing music and pausing in our playing when the music tells us. We are able to play as a whole class, practising when to play by clapping our notes initially, then replacing our clapping with notes form the clarinet. We have begun to understand the importance of improvising in music and are beginning to practise this in our lessons.

Nursery have been reading “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” this week. We tried some different types of porridge and investigated capacity with bowls and porridge oats. Goldilocks must have heard about how lovely our porridge was as she paid us a visit on Wednesday night! We caught her on CCTV and figured out who broke our chair!
