Digital friability apparatus• Digital friability test apparatus is specially

used to determine the durability of tablets from the time of production to the time use.

• Friability test is also performed to evaluate the ability of the tablets to withstand abrasion in packing, handling and transporting.

• It is also called as friabilator

Procedure • A number of tablets weighed and

placed in tumbling chamber .• This chamber rotated for four

minutes or 100 revolutions.• During each revolution tablets fall

from a distance of six inches to undergo shock

• Each of two acrylic drums provided with an arm which carries the tablets along with it up to specific height and allows them to fall from specific height,while the drums are rotating.• Thus the tablet rub against each other

without hard impact.• It is fitted with digital revolution counter

showing the current revolution for test.

• The digital LCD screen displays various important massages regarding the test like –set rotations and actual rotations of test.

• Tablets are weighed before and after the test and the difference is weight for particular time prior indication the rate of abrasion.

• After 100 revolutions the tablet are again weighed and loss in weight indicates the friability.• Acceptable limits of weight loss

should not be more than 0.8%
