Whether your desire is to avoid danger, learn self-defense, or begin the journey in the warrior arts, Nami Ryu has what you are looking for.

ABOUT NAMI RYU AIKI HEIHOTraditionally, martial arts in Japan are passed on from teacher to student by direct transmission. Nami Ryu's origins are from Yanagi Ryu Aiki Bugei, the martial traditions of the Yoshida clan of the Satsuma region of Kyushu, Japan.

Nami Ryu is a "sogo bujutsu" comprised of numerous arts exclusive to the Samurai, including weapon arts and unarmed techniques (Aiki-Jujutsu) such as:

• Japanese sword arts (Kenjutsu & Iaijutsu)

• Classical Samurai weaponry (wakizashi, tanto, naginata, yari (spear), bow, etc.)

• Aiki-jujutsu – unarmed techniques derived from sword arts. It is the root art of modern Jujutsu and Aikido; well-suited for law enforcement, military and personal defense.

• Heiho, or Hyouho - strategies for movement, awareness, timing, and outsmarting one's opponent. The principles of strategy are learned through studying the sword.

CURRICULUMOur curriculum covers a wide range of bugei (Japanese martial arts), which encompass skills that were once necessary for the Samurai warrior in the performance of his martial duties. These practical skills are translated into teachings applicable in modern times.

WHY LEARN JAPANESE SWORDSMANSHIP TODAY?The most unique aspect of Nami ryu is that our Jujutsu training comes directly from the sword. Samurai training, whether armed or unarmed, was based on principles learned from training with edged weapons. Nami ryu is one of the few martial systems that has preserved these principles and subtle yet powerful movements within its foundation.
