The Enemy: A Reacher Novel

Child is a meticulous writer whose plot follows a strict chronological order and moves at a breath-taking pace, with one

dramatic scene following hard on the heels of another. Reacher and his aide Summer are not fully developed characters, but they do not need to be as they struggle to learn who is controlling the grisly chess game which has resulted in four deaths. The action is resolved in an extravagant grand finale, with twists and turns and spectacular

surprises. Though the ending resolves the disparate threads, it may also be a disappointment to some readers, since the premise behind the plot and the motivation which led to the murders, when finally revealed, seems too unrealistic

to justify the murderous extremes to which "the enemy" has gone. Though Child is brilliant in creating an exciting story packed with action, the final pages feel cynical and reveal a view of humanity that is grim.

Page 4: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

Persuader: A Reacher Novel

Child's Jack Reacher is something of a mystery man but one can't help having a certain appreciation for the simplicity of his lifestyle. The bare basics of only a toothbrush makes those of us with way too much, look like fools and thus has

a certain pull on me. He is an elequent "Man's Man" and "Ladies" man deeply rooted within espionage.

One Shot: A Reacher Novel

The sniper shoots and kills six people. He takes few pains at hiding his identity, and he's picked up in a police probe that is a slam dunk. The evidence against him is so compelling that only his sister holds out any hope for the fact that

he is innocent. Reacher doesn't want to save him. He arrives on the scene to cement the thought that the man is capable of such an act, citing an earlier act of conduct while in the military that seems to echo in the current shootings.

But it doesn't take long for Reacher to become uncomfortable with the circumstances, and with the clumsy efforts of some force, some unknown powers who are framing the sniper and running scared that Reacher will find out.

The climax of the story is without parallel, and, once again, Reacher compels the reader by both his various "tough

guy" idiosyncrasies and his ability to extricate himself and others from tense and action packed situations.

Nothing to Lose

Before I read this book, I read a bunch of the (mostly bad) reviews. I could not believe that Childs could do 11 good

(review wise) ones in a row, then do a really bad one, then another good one. So I read it in spite of the bad reviews, and I'm glad I did. I cannot understand all the bad reviews. I may get in trouble here, but I think that the plot was very

good (although touching on some perhaps controversial subjects) and I think that anyone with an inquiring mind would have been very interested in the info on main battle tanks (the accuracy of which I can personally vouch for) and, for

another example, the discussion as to how cell phones work, which was very interesting to my inquiring mind. My conclusion...in the future, and where books of fiction are concerned, I will not be influenced by reader reviews, but

rather read a book and form my own opinions. And write a review based on them.

Killing Floor: A Jack Reacher Novel

I started with "Running Blind," Lee Child's third book, and finished it off in record time to jump back online to see what

else Lee Child had written. The hero, Jack Reacher, was a military brat growing up, a military career man until the army downsized, and then became a drifter by choice. He's a one-man swat team correcting injustice as it finds him.

In "Killing Floor" he just happens to get off the bus near the intersection of a small town in Georgia and after wandering on foot into the town of Margrave he is immediately arrested for a brutal murder which he obviously did not

commit. He digs his way through several mysteries at one time including the identity of the murdered man. The suspense never lets up; there is a girl (a cop) that he loves but leaves with good romance and dialogue throughout.

The only problem I had with the hero is that he arrives without any luggage and only occasionaly needs to buy a new outfit of clothes as he thows away what he has on at the time. He gives new meaning to traveling light. I'm going to

quit writing now and start reading the next book..."Die Trying" I hope to see more of Jack Reacher after I have caught up with the next two.

Echo Burning

Reacher is endlessly fascinating. Having gone from one Army post to another, first as an Army brat and then on his

own as an MP officer, he's never known a permanent home. So, now he chooses to live as a near-vagrant, shunning commitment to material things and the occasional interesting woman. He travels only with testosterone and a

toothbrush, buying cheap clothes to wear and discard as he goes. He's educated, intelligent and gentlemanly, but excruciatingly asocial (as opposed to antisocial, which he's not) and heroically ignorant about how a "normal" life -

wife, house, mortgage, kids, dog, 9 to 5, and Lexus - is lived. This is a man whom all you single ladies out there would love the chance to improve.

Die Trying

Die Trying is the sensational sequel to Killing Floor by Lee Child. If you haven't read Killing Floor I would recommend

doing so before you read this book as it provides a basis for Reacher's character realism. As before the main character is Jack Reacher, ex military policeman and all round superhero. Reacher is intelligent, deductive and

physically prodigous, so if you like heroes of the elite variety then this is the character for you. If you prefer cardiganed librarians and lack the ability to suspend disbelief (an essential criteria for FICTION readers) avoid this book as the storyline is astounding with a capital ASTOUND. Lee Child has produced a book that captivates and ensnares its readers with suspense, intrigue and a plot with more twists than a bowl of particularly tangled spaghetti. A man

mountain of a psychopath, a beautiful FBI agent with more secrets than the FBI itself, moles galore and the president of the United States, all come together in the valleys of Montana, in a literary feast. If that isn't enough there's even a

spot of romance (but not too much). All in all a book for those of us who believe in a world where heroes do exist.

Page 7: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

Bad Luck and Trouble: A Reacher Novel

Child has created a cadre of well-drawn heroes, and the fast-paced action never flags. The terse, often dryly

humorous dialogue is enormously entertaining. In addition, some nifty mental puzzles are thrown in to challenge the investigators' powers of deduction; brawn without brains just doesn't cut it in today's world. On the downside, the

villains are one-dimensional and the finale is a bit too pat to be believed, even in a fantasy such as this. Still, this novel is great escapist fun; it will have wide audience appeal among long-time Reacher aficionados, and it will probably earn

the author a host of new fans, as well.

61 Hours: A Reacher Novel

Child scores with "61 Hours," thanks to his no-nonsense and terse prose style, rapid-fire dialogue, dramatic

description of South Dakota's frozen landscape, and intense plot. There is excitement aplenty in "61 Hours," with its violent confrontations and electrifying conclusion, during which Reacher is forced to make some tough and morally

dubious decisions. The finale may not please everyone, but the author shows courage and originality in not sticking to the conventional action-adventure formula. This thriller will bring chills to Reacher fans--even those who do not reside

in a state where the mercury can dip to thirty degrees below zero.

A Simple Thing

I really enjoyed how McCleary wove the two stories and timelines through this exploration of how two families survive loss and getting to the other side. She also has a great visual style I felt like I knew every inch of Sounder and would

love to visit there. Recommended!

Page 9: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

After Hello

This book was refreshing. The story is unique, but not strange. The characters are flawed and real. Two strangers meet and help to teach each other and learn from each other. I don't want to ruin the story by talking about it too

much, so when you read it, send me an email! This is a great read, no language or inappropriate scenes.

Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End

There are many reasons to love this book. First of all, it's utterly realistic. As a long time zombie books aficionado, I've found all classes of undead literature. I've enjoyed many books, but very few gave me the sense of wonder and down-to-earth feelings that I've got reading Manel Loureiro's Apocalypse Z. Also, the Nameless Lawyer is such an incredible achievement that, as a writer myself, made me jealous of Loureiro in every page. He is witty, he is clever, he is brave,

he is a survivor.

Arcadian Genesis

The first thing I noticed when reading Arcadian Genesis was how vivid and complete the world of Alex Hunter was. It's like the author slipped on his favorite pair of shoes when writing this book. It's so polished that you'd think Alex Hunter

himself was writing the book. Being written (mostly) from the POV of an emotionally detached guy, there is some trouble feeling for the other characters, which is a good thing considering how many deaths there are in this book. And

Page 10: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

in some chapters, there is so much carnage and chaos that you're not quite sure who is left alive until the next chapter begins.

At the Edge of Waking

With In the Palace of Repose, her debut collection of mostly unpublished work, Holly Phillips accomplished the improbable. The unknown Canadian author received critical acclaim and numerous honors including the 2006

Sunburst Award and nominations for the World Fantasy and Crawford Awards. Her accomplished prose sang with a unique voice, seamlessly blending emotion, insight, and craft. Now, At the Edge of Waking presents her latest tales written with even more depth and range-including a new, never-published story. Portraying human reaction to dire

change or extreme circumstance, combining the real intruded upon by the fantastic or the fantastic grounded in reality, Phillips describes the world as it is, as it may be, as something impossible yet entirely acceptable, enthralling the

reader with her words.

Bad Hair Day

We are back with Kate Grable, our super smart heroine who is half brains and half funny. She's a bit of a nerd but she

makes it look so cool. She's finally dating her crush Aaron and she has best friends named Kiki and Rocky.

Page 11: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

Barefoot in the Rain

I found Jocelyn to be an amazing heroine and relatable in every way. The best thing about her is that she makes you feel very much. She's smart, she's loving, she's loyal, but mostly, she's this woman who's been through so much, and

she's trying to find her way in the world, because it seems that everything she thought she knew wasn't so. It's amazing to see her grow and change.

Black Bottle

Black Bottle is a an entertaining and complex sequel to The Last Page. It tells what happens to the characters after

the first book's shocking and surprising ending. In the first book the author took the story to new heights of weirdness, which was very nice, because it's fascinating to read about weird things. He does similar things in this book and

suprises his readers with new twists and morbid horrors.

Black Moon

Page 12: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

The story starts off a bit slow for me but soon enough I was immersed in the story and staying up to read just a little more because I had to know what happened next. I love storytelling that draws me along like that, it makes for an

enjoyable read, and this certainly was.

Brothers No More

Although this novel was not quite what I expected, I ended up enjoying it nonetheless. At first, I thought it was going to be a military or CIA thriller. Instead, I found it to be more along the lines of a Greek tragedy where the main character

ends up destroying himself due to his own hubris. It is an entertaining and interesting book with compelling characters. Buckley was known to be a talented writer and you can tell when you read this book.

City of Dark Magic

Prague is a city steeped in magic, blood, and the home to some of the most adroit minds in history. It is also a city of

secrets as music student Sarah Weston is quickly discovering. She has been invited over to Prague to catalog Beethoven's papers for Prince Max after her mentor's tragic death and finds herself pulled deep into the intrigue laced

throughout the heart of Prague.

Page 13: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

Crossed Blades

Though he is still known everywhere as the Kingslayer, Aral no longer recognizes the man in the mirror. It has been a

month since the bonewright painfully altered his face. His appearance is not the only thing about him that has changed. Six years ago his goddess was killed and her temple fell. Namara's death had been ordered by another god,

but it was the human group called the Hand of Heaven that destroyed the temple. It was the Hand that tortured and killed the Namara's Blades. Aral is one of the few surviving Blades, but only because he was on a mission far away

when it had happened. For a long time Aral would lose himself in alcohol. Now Aral tries to avoid that vice especially since he has obtained a new ward. Faran was only nine when the temple fell. The teen has not been Aral's apprentice for long, but she is already deeply devoted to him. Faran is the reason for Aral's other change. With the responsibility of caring for and teaching Faran, Aral must now think before he reacts. He has always been a strategic thinker, but

now he must become an ever better one.

Dare Me

Suddenly, the story takes on a dark twist. I actually stopped counting how many times I put the book down in my lap

and said, "holy " yeah, it's that good! I really figured I knew where it was headed, I was wrong. Then I thought something else, yeah wrong again. I no longer knew who or what to believe! I just knew I couldn't stop reading until

everything was revealed.

Page 14: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

Finch

The story is a mix of so many things, horror, pulp detective stories, gothic literature, poetry, magic, who-done-its, I

could list a bunch of movies and books I have read that would be the fingers and eyelashes of this work. It's good for the detective story read, good for the fantasy reader, hopefully good for the goths and steampunks too, though I am

sure there might be debate over that. I am smitten by the lure of Ambergris, so I will be walking backwards and reading the rest. I would tell you my opinion of the plot, but the press that made the book, expresses their opinion that spoilers should be kept to the bare minimum, so I am respecting that. I can say that I don't read a lot of fiction because

I rarely get sucked into a world, but this world of Ambergris is unique and gruesomely addictive.

Flawed

Sarah O'Brien was the strongest protagonist I have ever encountered in all my time of reading. She wasn't strong

physically, but with years of abuse she had to go through, Sarah endured. She was living a life she didn't deserve at all, stuck in an impossible situation with difficult choices to make between the two people that she loved the most. It was all so hard on Sarah and I really felt that pain, the indecision and the stress she was holding on her shoulders.

The juggling of protecting herself, her brother, and Sam just took a toll on Sarah and my heart damn near crumbled for her. In the toughest of times, Sarah held out and I truly looked up to the way she loved and cared for James and Sam. I loved Sarah for all that she was and all that she wasn't and I especially loved her for the choices she made and the

fact that she continued to dream, hope and live. ?

Lucas

This series is one of my all time favorites and Lucas did not disappoint. He was charismatic and sexy. For some

reason I really like Nicholas.........not sure why.....he's my favorite lieutenant next to Duncan, of course. I read this one so fast it will seem like FOREVER waiting on the next one. If you haven't read this series start at the beginning and

you will not be sorry. You can reread these books and enjoy them each time.

Midnight's Warrior

Tara is a Druid who comes from a family full of droughs, a Druid who consents to serving the devil. After many

attempts to turn her into a drough, Tara flees her family and into the clutches of the most dangerous drough of all. She escapes and has been running for ten years until she meets Ramsey. Now running isn't so appealing to the most

sought after Druid.

Only In Her Dreams

Page 16: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

I saw the cover and it intrigued me. I recommend this book for an pleasurable read. An enjoyable mix of Mythology and current day. Once I started reading I was drawn to the characters: Lucessa and Maxim, Darius and Greg and Guy and Marie. I could not put the book down once I started. You get caught up in the story not knowing what will happen

next. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Personal Demon

I thought this book was pretty darn good. Not perfect, but good enough that I will go start from the beginning of the

series. I didn't realize when I bought it that it wasn't a stand alone. It wasn't at all hard to follow though, and the author didn't get bogged down in trying to give you massive amounts of info on the secondary characters. It seemed like a

good balance.

Plain Truth

My very first novel by Jodi Picoult has lived up to all the hype I've been hearing about for so many months. I don't

know what's taken me so long to finally read one! Having closed the last page in Plain Truth just a few moments ago, my mind is now reeling from all that I've read this past week. I have a feeling this story will be with me for quite awhile.

Savage Betrayal

Darrius knows what Grace needs, and it’s not the kid-glove treatment. If she’s ever to overcome her past trauma and

return to full active duty status with the P.I.A, she needs a strong shoulder. Yet he’s shocked at how quickly he’s become physically and emotionally entwined with her.

Secret Sins

Once again Lora Leigh blows you away with the latest book in the Callahan series. I started reading and couldn't put it down. Secrets revealed and questions answered all in a wonderfully written book. Can't wait for the next book in this

series.

The Emperor of Lies

Prior to the Nazi occupation of Poland, Rumkowski was a successful businessman and director of an orphanage in Lodz. With his appointment as the elder of the Judenrat it became his direct responsibility for providing heat, work, food, housing, health and welfare of the entire ghetto population. Although he reported directly to the Nazi ghetto

administration under Hans Biebow, Rumkowski adopted an authoritarian leadership of the ghetto, becoming one of the most controversial Jewish figures in Holocaust history.

The Hunt

Since Selim is the Enforcer, it is his job to take control, organize the hunt, select the victims, and everyone is

supposed to accept his decision and abide by it. Things don't quite work out that way. Some of the other vampire leaders resent his authority and try to undermine him. Meanwhile his mortal love, Siri, isn't afraid to question his

decisions and has a few secrets of her own to hide. Selim soon finds himself with bigger problems than controlling the hunt and Siri when he hears someone is about to commit an act of betrayal that could destroy the their existence.

The Legend of Broken

Breathtakingly profound and compulsively readable, Caleb Carr’s long-awaited new book is an action-packed,

multicharacter epic of a medieval clash of cultures in which new gods collide with old, science defies all expectation, and virtue comes in many guises. Brimming with adventure and narrative invention, The Legend of Broken is an

exhilarating and enthralling masterwork.

The Turin Shroud Secret

The Turin Shroud secret was a very enjoyable read. There were alot of true facts in the story without it appearing to be

too factual. It was full of suspense. It was very well written.

Trapped

There is some cool stuff to look forward to in Trapped for long time readers. Perun, the Russian thunder god returns, as does Leif the ancient Nordic vampire. Newcomers include Loki, the Nordic dwarves and dark elves, Hermes and

Mercury, as well as Theophilus, the oldest living vampire in the world. There are battles with the dark elves, Bacchus and his minions, a run in with Loki, and a full out battle in Hel against her draugar armies and her wolf brother Fenris.

All of it builds up for the big show down against Loki and Hel, which is yet to come.

Undercover Professor

Andy Sullivan claims to be a geeky gamer, jobless, living with his mom and wearing socks with sandal...he is everything Lucy should run away from. Andy Sullivan really isn't jobless, he is actually a doctor and a college

department head working on a thesis about the gamer community. He is instantly drawn to Lucy and even though he

Page 20: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

thinks this will be a quick fling, he soon realize that he's found his perfect match. The only problem, he's lied to Lucy and she doesn't even know his real name.

Voodoo Eyes

I have seen Voodoo Eyes advertised as a thriller - it certainly has some thriller pacing but I really enjoyed the "Miami Noir" feel that the book had about it. No doubt Max Mingus' role is a private eye shaped the tone of the novel in this

regard.

Wormhole

I have read all three books in the trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed them. Because the first two books contain a

tremendous amount of background information and character development, do yourself a favor and read them first for a fuller understanding and appreciation of Wormhole.

Izakaya: The Japanese Pub Cookbook

2008 | ISBN-10: 4770030657 | scan PDF | 160 pages | 118 MB

Japanese pubs, called izakaya, are attracting growing attention in Japan and overseas. As a matter of fact, a recent

article in The New York Times claimed that the izakaya is starting to shove the sushi bar off its pedestal. While Japan has many guidebooks and cookbooks, this is the first publication in English to delve into every aspect of a unique and

vital cornerstone of Japanese food culture. A venue for socializing and an increasingly innovative culinary influence, the izakaya serves mouth-watering and

inexpensive small-plate cooking, along with free-flowing drinks. Readers of this essential book will be guided through the different styles of establishments and recipes that make izakaya such relaxing and appealing destinations. At the

same time, they will learn to cook many delicious standards and specialties, and discover how to design a meal as the evening progresses.

Eight Tokyo pubs are introduced, ranging from those that serve the traditional Japanese comfort foods such as yakitori (barbequed chicken), to those offering highly innovative creations. Some of them have long histories; some are more recent players on the scene. All are quite familiar to the author, who has chosen them for the variety they

represent: from the most venerated downtown pub to the new-style standing bar with French-influenced menu. Mark Robinson includes knowledgeable text on the social and cultural etiquette of visiting izakaya, so the book can used as

a guide to entering the potentially daunting world of the pub. Besides the 60 detailed recipes, he also offers descriptions of Japanese ingredients and spices, a guide to the wide varieties of sake and other alcoholic drinks that

are served, how-to advice on menu ordering, and much more. For the home chef, the hungry gourmet, the food professional, this is more than a cookbook. It is a unique peek at an

important and exciting dining and cultural phenomenon.

Cleopatra: A Biography

Page 25: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

2010 | ISBN-10: 0195365534 | PDF | 256 pages | 3 MB

Few personalities from classical antiquity are more famous--yet more poorly understood--than Cleopatra VII, queen of Egypt. In the centuries since her death in 30 BC, she has been endlessly portrayed in the arts and popular culture,

from Shakespearean tragedy to paintings, opera, and movies. Despite the queen's enduring celebrity, however, many have dismissed her as a mere seductress. In this major new biography, Duane Roller reveals that Cleopatra was in

fact a learned and visionary leader whose overarching goal was always the preservation of her dynasty and kingdom. Roller's authoritative account is the first to be based solely on primary materials from the Greco-Roman period: literary sources, Egyptian documents (Cleopatra's own writings), and representations in art and coinage produced while she was alive. His compelling portrait of the queen illuminates her prowess as a royal administrator who managed a large and diverse kingdom extending from Asia Minor to the interior of Egypt, as a naval commander who led her own fleet in battle, and as a scholar and supporter of the arts. Even her love affairs with Julius Caesar and Marcus Antonius--

the source of her reputation as a supreme seductress who drove men to their doom--were carefully crafted state policies: she chose these partners to insure the procreation of successors who would be worthy of her distinguished dynasty. That Cleopatra ultimately lost to her Roman opponents, Roller contends, in no way diminishes her abilities.

This definitive portrait restores the Egyptian queen to her rightful historical status as a potent force in the ancient world--one whose policies and influence long survived her and played a determining role in the future course of the

Roman empire.

Combat Chaplain: The Personal Story of the WWII Chaplain of the Japanese American 100th Battalion

2006 | ISBN-10: 0824830237 | PDF | 308 pages | 8 MB

"Who in 1943 could have foreseen that a Lutheran pastor from rural eastern Pennsylvania would be blessed to live

and tell such a tale?" In October 1943, twenty-seven-year-old combat infantry chaplain Israel Yost arrived in Italy with the 100th Battalion, a little-known National Guard unit of mostly Japanese Americans from Hawaii. Yost was

apprehensive when he learned of his assignment to this unusual unit composed of soldiers with whom he felt he had little in common and who were mostly Buddhists. But this would soon change. Before long, Yost found himself living

and working shoulder to shoulder with these men under enemy fire in freezing temperatures and mountainous terrain. In the midst of the difficulties and dangers, he had many opportunities to experience and observe the generosity of the

soldiers toward himself and others, including the Italian peasants they encountered. He wrote to his wife of their obsession with finding fresh food to supplement their C-rations, their largely unintelligible Island pidgin, and his

friendships with Captain Katsumi Kometani, the battalion’s morale officer and dentist; Captain Jack Mizuha, later a Hawaii Supreme Court justice; and Lieutenant Spark Matsunaga, who would go on to serve many terms as a senator

from Hawaii. For the next nineteen months at the frontfrom Salerno to Monte Cassino to Anzio to Bruyeres, FranceYost assisted medics, retrieved bodies from the battlefield, buried enemy soldiers, struggled to bolster morale

as the number of casualties rose higher and higher, and wrote countless letters of condolence, all in addition to fulfilling his ministerial duties, which included preaching in the foxholes. Although his sermons won few converts,

Yost’s tireless energy and concern for others earned him admiration from his fellow soldiers, who often turned to him as a trusted friend and spiritual advisor. At the war’s end, no other battalion would receive as many decorations and

honors as! the 100th. Yost returned to Pennsylvania and the life of a small town pastor. Forty years later, with the help of the letters he had written almost daily to his wife and his field diaries, he wrote of his wartime experiences in the hopes that they might one day be published as a record of the remarkable character and accomplishments of the

100th. Combat Chaplin presents this heartfelt memoir intact with the addition of photographs and subsequent letters and speeches by Yost and other veterans.

Power: Why Some People Have It and Others Don't (Audiobook)

In this crowning achievement, one of the greatest minds in management theory reveals how to succeed and wield power in the real world.

Over decades of consulting with corporations and teaching MBA students the nuances of organizational power, Jeffrey Pfeffer has watched numerous people suffer career reversals even as others prevail despite the odds.

Our most common mistake is not having a realistic understanding of what makes some people more successful than others. By believing that life is fair, we tend to subscribe to the “just-world phenomenon,” which leaves us unprepared

for the challenges and competition of the real world.

Now Pfeffer brings decades of his incredible insights to a wider audience. Brimming with counterintuitive advice, numerous examples from various countries, and surprising findings based on his research, this groundbreaking guide reveals the strategies and tactics that separate the winners from the losers. Power, he argues, is a force that can be used and harnessed not only for individual gain but also for the benefit of organizations and society. Power, however,

is not something that can be learned from those in charge—their advice often puts a rosy spin on their ascent and focuses on what should have worked, rather than what actually did. Instead, Pfeffer reveals the true paths to power

and career success. Iconoclastic and grounded in the realpolitik of human interaction, Power is an essential organizational survival manual and a new standard in the field of leadership and management.

Over the course of a remarkable career, Daniel Silva has established himself as one of the world's finest writers of international intrigue, a craftsman worthy of comparison to John le Carré and Graham Greene. His latest bestseller,

Moscow Rules, was not only superior entertainment, but a prescient cautionary tale about the emergence of the New Russia. Now he takes that tale to the next level.

Page 29: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

Six months after the blood-soaked conclusion of Moscow Rules, Allon is in Umbria, trying to resume his honeymoon

with his new wife, Chiara, when a colleague pays him a shocking visit. The man who saved Allon's life in Moscow and was then resettled in England has vanished without a trace. British intelligence is sure he was a double agent all

along, and they blame Allon for planting him. To discover the truth and clear his name, Allon must go immediately to London - a decision that will prove to be the most fateful of his career.

In the British capital, he finds himself once more on the front lines of the secret war between East and West, where

Russian spies and dissidents engage in the old game of cat and mouse. There, Allon uncovers a much greater conspiracy, a plot by an old enemy to resurrect a network of death, to bring the world to the precipice of a new

confrontation, and in order to stop it, he must risk everything: his ties to an organization he has served since his youth, his new marriage . . . even his life.

chance, it was for murder and rape. Native Son tells the story of this young black man caught in a downward spiral after he kills a young white woman in a brief moment of panic. Set in Chicago in the 1930s, Wright's powerful novel is an unsparing reflection on the poverty and feelings of hopelessness experienced by people in inner cities across the

country and of what it means to be black in America.

Ghost Story (Dresden Files, No. 13) (Audiobook)

English | 2011 | ISBN: 0142429066 | MP3 | 985 MB

The eagerly awaited new novel in the number-one New York Times best-selling Dresden Files series.

When we last left the mighty wizard detective Harry Dresden, he wasn't doing well. In fact, he had been murdered by an unknown assassin. But being dead doesn't stop him when his friends are in danger. Except now he has no body

and no magic to help him. And there are also several dark spirits roaming the Chicago shadows who owe Harry some payback of their own. To save his friends - and his own soul - Harry will have to pull off the ultimate trick without any

Who Fears Death (Audiobook)

English | 2011 | ISBN: 1441879897 , 1455875635 | MP3 | 626 MB

International award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor enters the world of magical realist literature with a powerful story of

genocide in the far future and of the woman who reshapes her world. In a post-apocalyptic Africa, the world has changed in many ways, yet in one region genocide between tribes still bloodies the land. After years of enslaving the

Okeke people, the Nuru tribe has decided to follow the Great Book and exterminate the Okeke tribe for good. An Okeke woman who has survived the annihilation of her village and a terrible rape by an enemy general wanders into

the desert hoping to die.

Instead, she gives birth to an angry baby girl with hair and skin the color of sand. Gripped by the certainty that her daughter is different — special — she names her child Onyesonwu, which means “Who Fears Death?” in an ancient tongue. From a young age, stubborn, willful Onyesonwu is trouble. It doesn’t take long for her to understand that she is physically and socially marked by the circumstances of her violent conception. She is Ewu — a child of rape who is expected to live a life of violence, a half-breed rejected by both tribes. But Onye is not the average Ewu. As a child, Onye’s singing attracts owls. By the age of eleven, she can change into a vulture. But these amazing abilities are merely the first glimmers of a remarkable and unique magic. As Onye grows, so do her abilities — soon she can

manipulate matter and flesh, or travel beyond into the spiritual world. During an inadvertent visit to this other realm she learns something terrifying: someone powerful is trying to kill her. Desperate to elude her would-be murderer, and to understand her own nature, she seeks help from the magic practitioners of her village. But, even among her mother’s people, she meets with frustrating prejudice because she is Ewu and female. Yet Onyesonwu persists. Eventually her

magical destiny and her rebellious nature will force her to leave home on a quest that will be perilous in ways that Onyesonwu can not possibly imagine. For this journey will cause her to grapple with nature, tradition, history, true

love, and the spiritual mysteries of her culture, and ultimately to learn why she was given the name she bears: Who Fears Death?

A Princess of Roumania (Audiobook)

English | 2005 | ISBN: 0765310961 | MP3 | 597 MB

This is a truly magical tale, full of strangeness, terrors and wonders. Many girls daydream that they are really a

princess adopted by commoners. In the case of teenager Miranda Popescu, this is literally true. Because she is at the fulcrum of a deadly political battle between conjurers in an alternate world where "Roumania" is a leading European power, Miranda was hidden by her aunt in our world, where she was adopted and raised in a quiet Massachusetts

college town.

The narrative is split between our world and the people in Roumania working to protect or to capture Miranda: her Aunt Aegypta Schenck versus the mad Baroness Ceaucescu in Bucharest, and the sinister alchemist, the Elector of

Ratisbon, who holds her true mother prisoner in Germany. This is the story of how Miranda -- with her two best friends, Peter and Andromeda -- is brought back to her home reality. Each of them is changed in the process and all

will have much to learn about their true identities and the strange world they find themselves in. This story is a triumph of contemporary fantasy.

The Darkness that Comes Before (Prince of Nothing Book 1) (Audiobook)

English | 2008 | ISBN: 1590201183 | MP3 | 569 MB

Page 45: Freebies 03 Dec 2012

Strikingly original in its conception, ambitious in scope, with characters engrossingly and vividly drawn, the first book in R. Scott Bakker's Prince of Nothing series creates a remarkable world from whole cloth - its language and classes of

people, its cities, religions, mysteries, taboos, and rituals - the kind of all-embracing universe Tolkien and Herbert created unforgettably in the epic fantasies The Lord of the Rings and Dune.

It's a world scarred by an apocalyptic past, evoking a time both 2,000 years past and 2,000 years into the future, as

untold thousands gather for a crusade. Among them, two men and two women are ensnared by a mysterious traveler, Anasûrimbor Kellhus - part warrior, part philosopher, part sorcerous, charismatic presence - from lands long thought dead. The Darkness That Comes Before is a history of this great holy war, and like all histories, the survivors write its

conclusion.

Miles The Autobiography (Audiobook)

English | 2012 | ISBN: 1609987810 | MP3 | 465 MB

Universally acclaimed as a musical genius, Miles is one of the most important and influential musicians in the world.

The subject of several biographies, now Miles speaks out himself about his extraordinary life. Miles: The Autobiography, like Miles himself, holds nothing back. For the first time Miles talks about his five-year silence. He

speaks frankly and openly about his drug problem and how he overcame it. He condemns the racism he has encountered in the music business and in American society. And he discusses the women in his life. But above all, Miles talks about music and musicians, including the legends he has played with over the years: Bird, Dizzy, Monk,

Trane, Mingus, and many others. The man who gave us some of the most exciting music of the twentieth century here gives us a compelling and fascinating autobiography.
