Recently I gave a State of the City address and I know that most of you were too busy making a living and raising families to attend. So, thanks to Waste Management, I thought I would tell you about some of the highlights of what is happening in your city of El Cajon. Budget: We have a healthy $45 Million reserve and we have a balanced budget. The reason we have saved so much is that we want to be ready for any emergency and especially the looming prospect of a recession. Should there be an economic downturn I expect that we would not have to lay off any public safety personnel. Public Safety: Over this last year our police and fire departments have responded to over 100,000 emergency calls. Crime is down and our fire department has the highest possible rating. Streets: As funny as it may sound there is an organization that rates the level of street repairs and El Cajon gets the highest ratings. Exciting New Things: This last year we opened the new animal shelter and saw the opening of a new Marriott Hotel and Mercedes Benz dealership. Later this year we will reopen the Performing Arts Center under the management of Live Nation, the world’s biggest concert promoting company. Soon there will be a new Hampton Inn and we have in the works several new high end car dealerships and even a new hospital. Taxes: We know that the sales taxes were too high so last year we were the only city in California to lower them. That’s just a bit of the great things happening. We of course have lots of challenges, as does any city. Your city staff and elected city officials are dedicated to a constant striving for excellence. Please let us know your thoughts and ideas. Spring/Summer 2019

A message from the MayorFor those of you who may have missed the recent Mayoral Townhall, here’s a special note from Mayor Wells to keep you informed of the latest highlights from the City of El Cajon.

Please let us know your thoughts and ideas.Dr. Bill WellsMayor of El Cajon
