Campers will explore this beautiful, yet sometimes yucky, world by taking part in hands-on explorations, crafts, hikes and games.

GCV&M has over 600 acres for exploration and play for children who love having fun outdoors. Earth Camp offers a memorable experience. Spend time wading in the creek, cooling off in the shade of the forest or searching for newts in one of our many ponds.

Weeklong adventures take place Monday through Friday, with the first session beginning the week of July 10 and the last session beginning the week of August 14. Get wild and embark on your full day adventure from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Half-day adventures (morning or afternoon sessions) are offered for younger campers. Programs fill quickly, so sign up soon. Advance registration is required.

Genesee Country Village & Museum Camp; Museum offers two camp program options sure to appeal to any child’s interest. Earth Camp nature programs allow children to discover the outdoors with exciting hands-on adventure. Energetic and fun staff will create memorable explorations that nurture a child’s connection to the natural world. Good Old Days Camp summer sampler programs recreate what life was like for a child living long ago. Using the historic village as its unique setting, children are immersed in activities that young people who lived “back in the day” might have experienced.

The 19th-century village setting provides a one-of-a-kind journey to the past. Children play graces, walk on stilts, collect eggs and cook up “bubble and squeak,” to name a few of the time-honored amusements your child can enjoy during camp.

Have fun learning open-hearth cooking during this hands-on class for girls and boys. Explore the museum gardens, and bring seasonal ingredients back to the kitchen. Learn how to correctly build a fire for open-hearth cooking. Make simple 19th-century dishes such as “bubble & squeak” and “scooting along the shore.” During the week students will also make their very own receipt (recipe) book to bring home.

Let’s get cooking, 19th-century style! Both boys and girls will enjoy this hands-on class, preparing several full meals made from fresh and seasonal ingredients. Learn how to make “toad in the hole”, Scotch eggs and chicken noodle soup from stock and noodles. Take home your own receipt (recipe) book with all the delicious dishes you learned during the week.

A 19th-century adventure in decorative confections! Create fancy sweets such as pies, candies, marzipan, cookies and cakes. Record the receipts in your receipt book, so you will be able to make masterpieces at home.

Trace the dramatic changes in fashion and dress of men, women and children in the 19th century. Spend a week with one of our museum seamstresses. Discover how to “date” a costume by its style. Learn about the influences that affected how people dressed: was it all a shift in taste, or was it something more? Try out your new skills by making your own bonnet to take home.

Have you ever admired your grandmother’s quilts? Have you ever wished you could create one yourself? Summer vacation is the perfect time for teens to gain valuable leadership training. Participants in the program will gain hands-on experience working within a nationally accredited living history museum. They will assist with camp activities under thementorshipofoneofourexperiencedSummerCampTeachers.Inaddition,many teens have been able to use their volunteer experience to fulfill community service requirements for school, while having a rewarding summer experience. To be considered for our program, teens must fulfill our prerequisite, complete our application, provide a letter of recommendation and attend a required pre-camp training. Prerequisite: Applicants must have attended a minimum of one week of camp at GCV&M prior to being a Volunteer Class Assistant OR have volunteered 20 or more hours in the historic village or nature center prior to the week in which they will assist.
