RIO DE JANEIRO, FAVELA ROCINHA Project for the transformation of Favela

The project relates to the conditions of transformation of the Favela Rocinha. It has as an aim the generous improvement of housing conditions of the inhabitants, the revalorisation of the landscape, the organization of the services and the networks, the autonomisation of the production of energy. Starting from a precise diagnosis of the urban organization and existing constructions, the project evolution is a intervening gently by phases, preserving the able organizations, transforming and adapting the fragile situations, recycling the dangerous existing constructions. By offering more livable surfaces, more light, comfort, services, landscape and sight, the project is a radical alternative to a situation of congestion and extreme promiscuity. A co-operative of means allows the development of an energy autonomy based on the waste recycling (biogas and electricity) and the recovery of rainwater.
