Dear Franklin Knolls Neighbors,
As many of you may know, Matt Mularoni has stepped down as president of our home owner's association. We thank him for his years of excellent service (he will remain as a board member at large). As former vice president, and current president, I would like to introduce myself.
My name is Emily Pierce and I live on the corner of Lochmoor and Middlebelt with my husband Peter David and our cats and fish. We've lived here for seven years. I hope to serve all of you well on the board.
As we all know, spring is here and that means we can all get outside, barbeque on our patios, plant fresh flowers, and let our kids play outside. It is a beautiful time of year so let's enjoy it. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Neighborhood clean up, general HOA meetings and the Summer Pump House Party.
Just a reminder, if you'd like to participate in the clean up April 23, please let one of the board members know so we can prepare and have plenty of T-shirts, trash bags, etc for the event. There is no age restriction, so feel free to bring kids along. We all live in the sub and we're all welcome to join any neighborhood event. (Details on page 3)
I'm sure we are all thankful the construction on the round about at 14 Mile, Northwestern, and Orchard Lake is complete and our neighbor-hood is no longer getting the speedy cut-throughs that went with it.
Some exciting changes are coming this year. We are giving our sub's entrances and the circle of land in the cul-de-sac a face lift. As a board we looked at landscaping plans and quotes for some hearty flowers, plants, and fresh mulch. Thank you to Savvy Boyd for heading that up
We are continuing our sub's participation in the Neighborhood Watch. So far it has been a useful tool which includes instruction from our wonderful Farmington Hills Police Department. Representatives have come to speak to residents and they also offer meetings at various locations throughout Farmington Hills regarding how to keep our homes safe. Thank you to Lisa Sturm for her dedication to this program. Signing up for Nixle (www.nixle.com) will help keep you informed of local crime, road closures due to flooding, and missing persons (this is free of charge).
Your 2016 FKHA Board and I are excited about the coming year and we look forward to meeting you on our walks, bike rides and also at this Summer’s Pump House picnic. (See information on page 3). Even if you do not have school age children, I would encourage everyone to come. It is a great way to get to meet and socialize with our neighbors.
I would also like to ask all of you to consider serving on the board. I believe it is important to switch things up periodically and bring in new
ideas. Even if there is an event you would like to help out with, please let us know. If you are interested in serving on the board or volun-
teering on an event, please email the board.
In the meantime, please feel free contact me or any of the other board members with your questions or concerns. Our phone numbers are above and we can all be reached at the one board member-only email address:[email protected] at any time.
Sincerely, Emily Pierce

Spring is Coming—Keeping our Homes Beautiful
We all want to live in a beautiful neighborhood—not
only does it make us feel better and make us proud
of our surroundings, but it also increases our prop-
erty values. Here are some simple tips that you can
do to enhance the ’curb appeal’ of your home :
Keep your lawn cut and the edges trimmed (remember you
are responsible for the ditch and the grass that goes to the
road)
Keep your bushes trimmed
Pick up dead branches off your lawn and rake your leaves
Store garbage and recycle bins ‘out of sight’ (garage, back-
yard or side of house)
Think about what you ‘see’ when you look
out of your front window—do you offer
the same view to your neighbor ?
Many thanks ! Your FKHA Board

New Neighbors? Let Us Know.
Home sales in the neighborhood can be hard to track. It takes time for it to show up on public records. Sometimes we are noti-fied of the new owner when the house is sold, sometimes we are not. If you have a new neighbor, let us know. We have a wel-come kit that we would be happy to give them and let know about the community. Of course new owners are welcome to contact us for the welcome kit as well.
Neighborhood Litter Walk Clean-up Saturday, April 23, 2016 Last year at this event we walked the perimeter of our neighborhood, collected litter and filled a number of trash bags. That was the first time participating in this annual event. The event was fun, we met our neighbors and it took less than a few hours. The city also provided T-shirts, gloves and trash bags for the event. We even won a prize from the city for the most trash bags collected! So this year we hope you will join your neighbors once again to clean up our neighborhood. This will once again be part of the city wide 4th annual “Clean, Green & Beautiful” litter walk clean-up. It is a great way to celebrate Earth Day and to assist in maintaining the environment of Farming-ton Hills. Think globally and acting locally! To start the event we will be providing coffee and some light snacks at the pump house on Saturday, April 23rd at 10am. We will start the walk about 10:30. The city will provide trash bags, other supplies and a limited number of T-shirts. Bring some gloves, good walking shoes, etc. and help us do a little spring cleaning for the neighborhood. Hope to see you there!

During a monthly inspection as issue was found on our north well. This is one of two wells that supply water to our system. The problem was a bad check valve and the check valve was replaced. The north well is back online and working. During this service a capacity test was con-ducted. This test tells us the flow rate or the ability to get water when it is needed. The test results show that the capacity of the north well is much lower than what it should be. We had the same issue a few years ago and service was performed to in-crease the capacity. This service can increase capacity but will
not restore it to full capacity and over time the chances of this service working decreases. There is also the possibility that it will not increase it at all. Both of our wells are the original wells for our subdivision. The other option is to drill a new well. For now we are continuing to check and test the capacity of this well. Unless there is an improvement we might be looking at drilling a new well. If this is needed we do have the funding to cover the cost and at least for now do not expect an increase in the association dues.
