Good things come to those who wait, as the saying goes. That

old phrase came true last week for loyal fans who lobbied to save a sci-fi series — and won. Now, the adventure continues for a gun-slinging demon hunter and her motley crew of allies.

Melanie Scrofano (“Being Eri-ca”) stars as the great-great-granddaughter of famed Wild West lawman Wyatt Earp in a new episode of “Wynonna Earp,” air-ing Sunday, Aug. 2, on Syfy. She and her ragtag posse battle vam-pires, zombies and the like in her hometown of Purgatory (which is near the Canadian Rockies) and throughout the cursed territory known as the Ghost River Triangle.

Based on Beau Smith’s comic book series of the same name, the supernatural Western TV show had been on hiatus since its third season wrapped in September 2018. Season 4 had been slated to premiere in July of 2019 but was postponed due to financial chal-lenges faced by its production company, IDW Entertainment. Earpers (as fans of the series are known) quickly took to social me-dia to promote the series, even us-ing electronic billboards in New York City’s Times Square. To show her appreciation, Scrofano herself sponsored a billboard to thank them. Luckily, following the ro-bust, fan-led campaign showing support for the series, it was an-nounced that IDW, Cineflix Stu-dios, Canada’s Crave and SEV-EN24 Films would continue with the production.

When asked about the upcom-ing season at the “Wynonna Earp” panel at 2019’s New York Comic Con, show creator and writ-er Emily Andras (“Lost Girl”) ex-pressed her gratitude for all the fan support.

“I’m so happy you guys remem-ber who we are,” Andras said. “Thank you so much. I just think we owe Season 4 — there’s no question — to all of you.”

At the time, she had big promis-es for the show’s return, saying that there would be “secrets and lies, betrayals, sexy sexiness — the whole gamut.” Continuing, Andras said: “I’m excited. I forgot

how crazy this show is. But it’s cra-zy. I will definitely be getting yelled at on Twitter.”

Earpers are surely happy to see Wynonna and her friends, and maybe even her foes, after such a long break. Since its premiere in 2016, the show has garnered posi-tive fan and critical response, in-cluding spots on many critics’ “Best” lists, multiple Canadian Screen Awards and a People’s Choice Award for Best Sci-fi/Fan-tasy Show.

In the beginning, after inherit-ing her great-great-grandfather’s mythic abilities and Peacemaker handgun, Wynonna teamed up with a top-secret sector of the U.S. Marshals known as the Black Badge Division to take on super-natural creatures. Along the way, she has received more than a little help from her friends, including her great-great-grandpa’s former partner, an immortal Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon, “Schitt’s Creek”). Wynonna also works alongside her half-sister, Waverly (Domi-nique Provost-Chalkley, “Murdoch Mysteries”), and Waverly’s girl-friend, Purgatory’s Sheriff Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell, “Good Witch”).

In Season 4, it appears that the Earp curse has been broken. Wyn-onna no longer has the Peacemak-er, the magical gun once wielded by her great-great-grandfather that has the ability to send de-mons back to hell. While she would love to kick back and cele-brate, the one-time gunslinger must rescue her friends, save the town of Purgatory and take on a diabolical enemy who seriously hates the Earps.

Fans will see at least three new faces as it’s been announced that singer Martina Ortiz-Luis and ac-tors Andrew Phung (“Kim’s Con-

venience”) and Ty Olsson (“Super-natural”) have joined the cast for Season 4.

There will be some changes be-hind the camera as well. It was an-nounced in March that star Scrofa-no will make her directorial debut in one of this season’s episodes.

‘I’m very excited to bring my ex-perience as Wynonna Earp to the director’s chair for an episode of Season 4. I’ve had the great luck to learn from some of the best di-rectors and showrunners in the business and hope that viewers will enjoy the episode as much as I’ve enjoyed directing it,” Scrofano said.

Things seem to be looking up for the sci-fi-western series, even though it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. The show’s most recent challenge came when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the shutdown of filming in Calgary back in March. As a result, the show will only air six of the planned 12 Season 4 episodes this summer, ending with a mid-sea-son finale scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 30. The plan is to resume pro-duction in Calgary later this sum-mer to pick up where they left off, although no one can say for sure when, or even if, they’ll be able to finish the remaining six Season 4 episodes, given the unpredictabili-ty of the pandemic sweeping around the globe.

In an uncertain industry and an uncertain world, the fate of the show hangs in the balance. But one thing is for certain: the loyalty of its fans. They will surely be tun-ing in to catch the latest episode, and it isn’t too far into Season 4 to jump in if you’re new to the show. Watch as Wynonna and her allies take on supernatural threats in a new episode of “Wynonna Earp,” airing Sunday, Aug. 2, on Syfy.

This installment features the voice of Colin O’Donoghue (“Once Upon A Time”) as Douxie, a wizard-in-training who travels back to the medieval ages and the realm of Camelot. As the final chapter in the saga, “Wizards” melds wizardry with the magical worlds of trolls and aliens established in the first two series (“TrollHunters” and “3Below”). The fate of the now-converged magical realms rests in Douxie’s hands as he serves under Merlin (voiced by David Bradley of the Harry Potter films), and an epic battle for control of all magic be-gins.

London is perhaps best known for being the killing ground of infa-mous serial killer Jack the Ripper. Now, roughly 120 years after the disappearance of the famed killer, London’s nightmare has started again as a series of copycat mur-ders ravages the Whitchapel dis-trict in this BBC series available now on Hulu. The show follows up-and-coming Det. Joseph Chan-dler (Rupert Penry-Jones, “MI-5”) as he joins the Whitechapel squad, partnering with veteran Det. Ray Miles (Phil Davis, “Pol-dark”) on his first murder investi-gation. The pair quickly realizes that this isn’t just an open-and-shut case, and they find them-selves bringing in Edward Buchan (Steve Pemberton, “Inside No. 9”), a historical crime expert and self-proclaimed Ripperologist, to consult on the case.

Picture this: It’s dinnertime and you’re standing in front of your

refrigerator, staring at its contents and wondering what you could pos-sibly make for dinner using the in-gredients you have on hand. Sound familiar?

It’s not unusual to feel uninspired or overwhelmed by food dilemmas. But necessity is often the mother of invention, even in the kitchen, and some folks relish the creative chal-lenge of improvisational cooking.

Making something wonderful when you’re forced to make do: that’s the idea behind a new culi-nary competition series premiering this week.

“Fridge Wars” debuts Sunday, Aug. 2, on CW. It’s a surprising addi-tion to the lineup since The CW isn’t known for its food-themed pro-gramming. Mind you, the network isn’t necessarily food averse: a few years back, it aired “Dinner Spin-ner,” a competition presented by the website Allrecipes. (It also aired “The Robert Irvine Show,” starring the host of “Restaurant: Impossi-ble,” but that one was less food and more talk.)

A family-friendly competition se-ries, “Fridge Wars” is actually a Ca-nadian import and one of the four international acquisitions bolstering CW’s depleted summer lineup. It was produced by CBC, Canada’s na-tional public broadcaster, and aired north of the border earlier this year.

Every episode of “Fridge Wars” begins at home — specifically, the home of one Canadian family. Host Emma Hunter, who also stars in the Canadian satirical news series “The Beaverton,” gets acquainted with family members while politely raid-ing their fridge for ingredients (more on that later).

Got a mountain of leftovers? A chunk of ice that used to be frozen peas? A jar of maraschino cherries that’s been lurking at the back of the fridge for years? All fridge con-tents are fair game (well maybe not the cherries, and I promise you I’ll toss them). Any photos or recipes found outside the fridge also pro-vide insight into the family’s prefer-ences and interests, and that’s im-portant for the first challenge.

The actual competition takes place in a studio. Two Canadian ce-

lebrity chefs have 45 minutes to cre-ate an incredible meal for a family they don’t know, using the items from that family’s fridge. Family members then score the meals based on look, taste and originality. After that, the same thing happens with a second family, except this time, a “What The Fridge” (WTF) challenge adds a unique twist.

At the end of the episode, the scores from both families are tabu-lated and the highest-scoring chef is the “Fridge Wars” champion — at least, for that episode. A total of six episodes will air on CW, and it all begins this Sunday, Aug. 2.

More ‘Sack Lunch Bunch’: Kids really do say the darndest things, especially when they’re performing material written by two-time Emmy winner John Mulaney.

The former “Saturday Night Live” writer and three-time host re-cently signed a deal to headline and produce more “Sack Lunch Bunch” specials. And that’s exciting news for fans of the first one.

Equal parts parody and homage to children’s TV, the variety show “for kids, by adults, with kids pres-ent” debuted last December on Netflix and was very well received (it currently has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes).

But Mulaney’s new deal isn’t with Netflix — it’s with Comedy Central, which aired his first stand-up special, “New in Town,” back in 2012. It’s also where Mulaney worked as an office assistant after graduating from Georgetown Uni-versity, and he mentioned his first gig in the official news release. “I was an intern at Comedy Central when I was barely older than the kids in the ‘Sack Lunch Bunch,’” Mulaney said. “I wasn’t a very good intern, so I am psyched they hired me again. We are thrilled to bring these specials to Comedy Central, a place where I have had so many good times.”

The deal is for two new install-ments, including a holiday team-up with the original cast that per-formed songs such as “Grandma’s Boyfriend Paul” and “I Saw a White Lady Standing on the Street Just Sobbing (and I Think About It Once a Week).” No word yet on a return appearance by either “Mr. Music” Jake Gyllenhaal (“Prisoners,” 2013) or Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, who gamely wore an Elsa (from Disney’s “Frozen”) costume the first time around.

‘Dancing’ With New Stars:

Some shocking news for longtime TV viewers: “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron is out as host of ABC’s dance competition, and so is his hosting partner, Erin Andrews.

It’s a surprising move given Bergeron’s enduring popularity and extra-long tenure as host — he’s

been at the helm for 28 seasons and more than 400 episodes since the show premiered in 2005. As for An-drews, she joined the show in 2014 after appearing on “Strictly Come Dancing,” the BBC Studios show that inspired ABC’s version.

Bergeron himself broke the news on social media, tweeting: “Just in-formed @DancingABC will be con-tinuing without me. It’s been an in-credible 15-year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made” Naturally, he ended his post with his trademark good humor: “That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?”

Just a few hours after Bergeron’s post, the news broke that Tyra Banks will be taking over hosting duties for Season 29. The creator of “America’s Next Top Model” and “The Tyra Banks Show” will also serve as executive producer.

“I’ve been a fan of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ since its beginning,” Banks said in the network state-ment. “The fun mixed with raw emotion, seeing celebrities push past their comfort zones, the siz-zling dance performances … it’s al-

ways transported me to my days of turning it up 10 notches on the cat-walk.”

Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment, added: “As we gear up for the show’s 29th season, we can’t wait to welcome Tyra Banks to our ‘Dancing’ stage. Tyra is an award-winning multi-hyphenate whose fierce female prowess and influence across many industries have made an indelible mark. Her fresh take on America’s favorite dancing competition will surely bring more than a ‘Smize’ to fans everywhere.”

Casting is already underway for Season 29, with former “Bachelor-ette” Kaitlyn Bristowe announced as the first celebrity competitor.

‘Evel’ Upheaval: Unlike the real

Evel Knievel, it appears the planned limited series “Evel” wasn’t able to get off the ground after all.

Despite a lot of interest in the project, USA Network has decided not to move ahead with “Evel,” and COVID-19 is largely to blame for its demise.

day of prep (March 13). But with the shutdown stretching on for months, timing became an issue.

Series lead Milo Ventimiglia origi-nally agreed to play the part of the motorcycle-riding daredevil while his regular series, NBC’s “This Is Us,” was on hiatus. But with the months-long delay, Ventimiglia’s availability was much more limited, and it was getting harder to sync up everyone

else’s schedules too. So USA Net-work was forced to pull the plug on the whole thing and release the cast and crew.

“Evel” would have picked up the story of Knievel as he prepared for one of his most famous stunts: the 1974 Snake River Canyon jump. In real life, it was a failed attempt: his rocket-powered motorcycle made it to the other side but drifted back

into the canyon. There was another serious crash the following year at Wembley Stadium, but a defiant Knievel set a new record just a few months later by successfully jump-ing over 14 Greyhound buses.

Similarly undaunted, UCP, the NBCUniversal-owned production company behind “Evel,” still intends to shop it around with Ventimiglia attached.
