The Position The Francis Howell School District, St. Charles, Missouri, Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified superintendent of schools. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position on July 1, 2016.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board in identifying and screening the candidates.
The Qualifications
The candidates must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board is seeking an individual with the following characteristics as its next superintendent.
1. A great communicator who values two-way communication, keeps the Board informed, is visible and a good listener, demonstrates adaptability and seeks input from others
2. An individual who maintains and communicates high academic expectations and has knowledge of and experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
3. A professional with a proven track record and experience at the executive level (in a similar district) and who has a strong record of personal academic accomplishments
4. A demonstrated go-getter, motivational leader and innovator, who works well with employee groups and exhibits strong leadership qualities
5. An out-of-the-box thinker who looks for external funding resources and understands school finance as well as the financial issues impacting the district
The Community The Francis Howell School District encompasses over 150 square miles in the southeast corner of
St. Charles County and is one of the largest school districts in the State of Missouri. The Francis
Howell School District encompasses parts of the following cities: St. Peters, Cottleville, Weldon
Spring, Harvester, New Melle, Augusta, Defiance, southern portions of St. Charles City, and
eastern portions of O’Fallon.
The population of the community is approximately 50,000 residents with thriving local
businesses such as: Enterprise Rent-A-Car Co., Missouri American Water Co., Citigroup
Technology Inc., John Q. Hammons Revocable Trust, and Mid Rivers Investment Group.
Medical facilities available in the area include Progress West Hospital, Barnes Jewish St. Peter’s
Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The community of Francis Howell School District is comprised of nine
active municipalities that host a variety of recreational activities and
amenities to residents including several local parks and libraries, Busch
wildlife, the Scenic Katy Trail, and the Historic home of Daniel Boone.
Nearby colleges and universities include St. Charles Community
College, Lindenwood University, and Maryville University.

The Board of Education The Francis Howell School District Board of Education consists of seven community members
elected to three-year terms. The tenure of the board members ranges from 1to 12 years.

An application for superintendent should include:
A letter setting forth personal qualifications, experiences
and reasons for interest in the position
A current résumé
A completed application form
Reference letters, certificates and licenses, and academic
transcripts from colleges/universities indicating degree(s)
Candidates are asked not to contact board members directly. Any effort to do so may
eliminate them from consideration. Names of applicants will be held in strict confidence
whenever possible; however, McPherson & Jacobson complies with individual states’
Freedom of Information laws. In the final process, the school board may visit the district
where the candidate is employed, but will not proceed without the knowledge and consent
of the candidate.
Selection Timeline:
Closing date for applications: January 7, 2016 (11:30 p.m. central time)
Board of Education selects finalists to interview: January 20, 2016
Finalists’ interviews with the Board of Education: January 25-29, 2016
Selection of new superintendent: February 2016
Start date: July 1, 2016
