UpdatesCalendar for Library Space Sign-upI am excited to say that many of you are ready to book and use the library. If you would like to use the library please check the schedule to make an appointment or plan out your usage. The Calendar is a Google Sheet that can be found at www.tinyurl.com/FRlibrary. A couple of things to keep in mind would be: you need to log into your Parkway Google App account to have access and make changes to the sheet, you may want to make a shortcut on your desktop so that you have easy access to view available times, and please everyone’s time and delete any scheduled times you are going to be unable to use. If you need help, let me know.
DatabasesOnce again this year the Fern Ridge databases are up and ready to use. They can be easily accessed at http://tinyurl.com/FR-databases or by going to the Fern Ridge Edline page, under library, and then databases link. The bookmark stickers of the usernames and passwords for students are ready to go. These usernames and passwords are to be used when student try to access the databases off campus. We have some great databases for student research:

● Credo Reference - Full-text articles from over 80 of the leading reference publishers
● Discovering Collection - Provides selections of reference, primary sources, creative works, and multimedia, including hours of video and audio clips in the areas of history, literature, science, social studies, and more
● Discovery Education - Educational videos, images, audio clips, resource materials, and much more to meet your digital media needs
● Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia - Over 25,000 full-text records, covering an array of topics. The database contains various images and offers brief biographies as well as information in a variety of subject areas
● Heritage Quest Online - A collection of American genealogical sources. Includes Federal Census data, Revolutionary War records, Freedman's Bank Records and more.
● Science Reference Center - Contains full text for hundreds of science encyclopedias, reference books, and periodicals. Topics covered: biology, chemistry, health & medicine, physics, technology, and more
● SIRS Researcher - Delivers the pros and cons on today's complex social issues● Student Research Center - Students can research topics in a variety of subject
areas by source type: magazines, newspapers, reference books, primary sources, biographies, photos, and more.
● World Book - Online access to the World Book Encyclopedia. Includes additional content such as primary sources, images, maps, and more

Student OpportunitiesShow Me a Movie Contest - Edplus & METCShow-Me a Movie is a digital storytelling contest for students grades 2-12 in Missouri and its Border States (Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska). These students are invited to demonstrate their creativity and digital moviemaking skills in one of five categories. New this year, categories are designated for specific age groups. Also new for 2014, the area of focus for all submitted movies is STEAM related.
