Almighty God, you love us, but we have not loved you. You call, but we have not listened. We run away from neighbors in need, wrapped up in our concerns. We run away from you, afraid of your call upon our lives. Forgive us our reluctance to open our hearts and lives to you and also to others. We repent of our hesitations and unwillingness to move forward in faith. God of grace, help us to admit our sin, so that as you come to us in mercy, we may repent, turn to you, and receive forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. (silence for personal confession)

FPCP Anniversary Sunday

As we look forward to celebrating the anniversary of our church, here are some fun facts about its history:

When the initial meetings took place in 1833, it was called “Second Presbyterian Church.” The name changed to “First” in 1907.

In 1838, the village of Plymouth consisted of a bank, three taverns, a drugstore and the Presbyterian Church.

Did you know that the names of many of Plymouth’s streets and schools originated with someone affiliated with our church? According to historical records, there are at least 22!

The first woman to serve as an elder of FPCP was Margaret Daniel, and she was ordained in 1953.

Throughout its history, our church has been served by 34 senior ministers. The most recent, Dr. James Skimins, will be our guest minister on March 3rd.

Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) Update – January 27, 2019 It’s a new year and we are very excited about the prospects God is presenting to us! Since our last update, we have received over 50 new resumes, technically referred to as personal information forms or PIFs. The process of PIF reviews, listening to sermons, and evaluating and interviewing candidates is in full swing. We anticipate more of these activities in the coming months as we continue our discernment. “Waiting to See” was the title of Reverend Campbell’s sermon on January 20th, based on Luke 2:22-40. Simeon’s journey was led by the Holy Spirit, who led Simeon to the Temple in Jerusalem. When Mary and Joseph arrived, Simeon took the baby Jesus in his arms and thanked God, saying: “Now, Lord, I have seen with my own eyes how you will save your people.” The scripture lesson from Luke also revealed to us a prophet named Anna. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day – she never lost faith while waiting for Jesus. We too are led by the Holy Spirit as we seek FPCP’s next senior minister. The Spirit will lead both us and God’s chosen candidate to a common calling. Only then will our PNC journey of faith be complete. We cannot thank you enough for the prayers and supportive words we have received from all of you including our prayer partners, Bible study groups, evening devotion groups, the session and deacons, international mission partners, staff members and ministers! By God’s grace we seek to do God’s will in God’s timing, Kathy Bernard Kurt Boeve James Davidson Sandy Dodge Kiki Farrow Paula Ford Steve Marulis Dana Stonerook Tom Weaver

FPCP Partners in Earth Care As we care for the Church building and grounds, a responsibility that God has entrusted us with, we thought our congregation would like to know what currently happens at FPCP to this end. Volunteers take these items to various locations for recycling. --The parking lot garden provides vegetables to Northville Civic Concern --Earth Care information is provided monthly in the church bulletin and on the Earth Care bulletin board --Through the sales of Fair Trade coffee, Presbyterian Women purchased a Bicycle Rack, which was installed by Building & Grounds members --An Earth Care-related library section for adults and children has been created in the Media Center --Cardboard boxes at the Thrift Shop are routinely collected, broken down and recycled by volunteers --FPCP is a designated Earth Care Congregation, an Environmental Ministries program of the Presbyterian Hunger Program, by PC USA --Suggestions???? How can we continue to resolve to Precycle/Reduce/Reuse/Recycle? We’d love to hear your comments and suggestions. Please contact any member of the Partners for Earth Care Team: Ailsa Blunk, Debra MacGregor, Kiki Farrow, Corinne Kee, Patti Devine, Marge Lynch, Klo Phillippi, Steve Chrypinski.
