FROM THE EDITOR

May Notes at Jim and Lindas Inn in Pipe, WI As about 36 Fox Valley Region PCA members can attest, Laura Prellwitz put together yet another fine season opener. Jim & Lindas Inn, in Pipe WI, is set on the scenic shore of Lake Winnebago and has hosted our season opener for many years. We were pleased that many or our new members were able to join us to get acquainted. Bill Hewitt was able to take a few photos for the 2008 Porsche Club Calendar. If you would like to have your car in next years edition of the club calendar, please contact Bill to make arrangements. (Has Porsche, will travel has been heard spoken by Bill.) His expert photography is freeyou just pay for the film & processing. What a bargain! Stories of kickin car stereos stuffed into Porsche crevices, glorious past FVR PCA driving events, silly maintenance questions, wax onwax off, how to drop a 911, and of course this coming driving season were hot topics of conversation in the pub. As the evening wound to an end, door prizes were awarded to four lucky winners. I wonder if there are any stories from the post dinner gathering that are able to be published. Hmmm... Just a few of the upcoming events are listed below. Be sure to watch the newsletter for the details and schedule. A driving tour of three different WI State Parks on June 3rd will be hosted by Bill. Please send RSVP by June 1st to Bill. In July, members Annie & Steve of Trout Springs Winery will host a tour of their winery & fish rear-ing operation. Following the tour, our club will sponsor lunch with the treasury buying meat and buns. Members are please asked to bring a dish to pass. August brings a car show in Manitowoc that Laura has been working on, and featuring PORSCHE this year as the car of the Show. We will have a joint Milwaukee and Fox Valley PCA clubs Fall tour of Michigan and Wisconsin in September Gordon will again host his annual shop tour in fall. Were looking diligently for a volunteer to take over the Holiday Party. Sincerely Mary Haen

TOUR OF STATE PARKSDOOR COUNTY Summer is almost upon us, and it is time for us Porschephiles to take advantage. The state of Wisconsin was kind enough to waive the state park admission fee on the first Sunday in June so it is time for us to get out our Porsches and take a tour that day. There are four state parks in Door County. We will visit three. This year we will go up the Bay side first and come down on the Lake side. We will also stop and have lunch at the Mink River Basin Supper Club in Ellison Bay around noon. The tour will take the better part of a day and will add somewhere around 200 miles to your odometer. We certainly hope the weather will cooperate with us. SUNDAY, JUNE 3rd is our one available day with free park admission so we have to take it: Rain or shine, we make the tour.

If you wish to participate, please RSVP Bill Hewitt by phone (920 739-6168) or E-mail ([email protected]) before June 1. Maps will be provided. There are three places to meet and you will need to be at one of them. The general tour plan is listed below:

8:00 am The Fox Cities contingent meets at the McDonalds Truck Stop (the old Moasis) just off the exit ramp at Highway 41 and County N in Little Chute. Expect to leave that location at 8:15 am. We are headed to Green Bay to meet up with the Green Bay contingent (via Highways 41, 172, and I-43). 9:00 am - We stop at the Hardees just east of exit 181 (County JJ) off Highway I-43 on the east side of Green Bay. We meet up with the Green Bay contingent here. Expect to leave that location at 9:15. We are headed to Sturgeon Bay (via Highway 57) to meet the last group.

10:00 am - We stop at the Door County Chamber of Commerce parking lot to meet up with the Manitowoc and Sheboygan group. The Chamber of Commerce is located off of Highway 57/42 just as we arrive in Sturgeon Bay. Its address is 1015 Green Bay Road. If you see Duluth Avenue, you are real close to the Chamber of Commerce. This is the last meeting place to join the tour. We leave that location at 10:15 am (via Highway 57). We go back to County PD and head north to Potawatomie State Park.

10:30 am (time approx.) We arrive at Potawatomie State Park. Our destination is the observation tower. We take South Norway Road and follow it to the tower. We stop for short while to stretch our legs, enjoy the scenery, and climb the tower. This is the last pit stop for a while. Take advantage of it. 11:00 am (time approx.). We follow North Norway Road back to the park entrance. We follow County PD back to Highway 57 and head toward Sturgeon Bay. We take 42/57 into town. We turn on to County B and follow it north along the east side of Green Bay. County B turns into County G. This particular stretch of road is quite scenic. We turn on to Highway 42 in Egg Harbor and follow it to Fish Creek.

11:40 pm We arrive at the Peninsula State Park entrance. In the park we follow Shore Rd to the Eagle Tower. We stop there to enjoy the sights and stretch our legs. There is ample parking and public facilities. We will be here for about 20 minutes.

12:00 pm (time approx.) We leave Peninsula State Park along Shore Road. It takes us past the golf course and back to Highway 42. We follow Highway 42 through Ephriam and Sister Bay to Ellison Bay. 12:30 pm We stop for lunch at the Mink River Basin Supper Club. We stopped here last year for lunch. Two weeks later, sev-eral of the surrounding buildings blew up due to a propane leak. The event was on the evening news for weeks. We will revisit the area. The supper clubs address is 12010 Highway 42. It is right off the main highway and easy to find. They are expecting us. This will be the last pit stop for a while.

1:15 pm (time approx.) We leave the supper club and follow Mink River Road to County ZZ. Turn right. We follow County ZZ to Sister Bay, where it joins Highway 42. We take Highway 42 south a few blocks to Highway 57. We turn on to 57 and follow it south to County Q. We follow County Q until it rejoins Highway 57 at Baileys Harbor. We turn on to 57 and follow it south through Jacksonport. Just south of Jacksonport, we turn (left) on to Cave Point Drive and follow it south.

1:50 pm (time approx.) We arrive at Whitefish Dunes State Park. Follow Cave Point Drive into the park. We stop here to enjoy the scenery, stretch our legs, and walk down by the beach. We will be here for about a half hour. This will be the last official pit stop on the tour.

2:20 pm We leave the park and follow County WD for about a mile. We turn (left) on to Nelson Lane and follow it south to County T. We turn (left) on to County T. It is a scenic road along Lake Michigan. We follow it until we arrive in Sturgeon Bay, where it joins up with Highway 57/42. We turn (left) on to 57/42 and follow it south. The tour officially ends when we cross the bridge in Sturgeon Bay. We are free to take whichever roads we like to get back home.

Remember: Have fun and drive safely!! Bill Hewitt, Tourmeister

FROM THE EDITOR

Letter from Larry Rogers to Mike Cattelino (High Mileage Challenge) Dear Mike, The Executive Committee of the Fox Valley Region, Porsche Club of America, has voted to donate $500.00 toward sponsorship of the High Mileage Challenge at Fox Valley Technical Center. Our members who vol-unteered this year saw firsthand how much the event has progressed on several fronts: • More professional organization, thanks to your efforts in getting extra volunteers to man the fuel weigh-in and check-in, as well as other critical areas like the start and finish line, and the emergency recovery vehi-cles. • More enthusiasm, as evidenced by the increased number of competing schools, as well as the increased number of cars from each school. • An improved timer's sheet, which made our job easier and more enjoyable. There are no restrictions on the use of the money. We will leave it up to you as coordinator of the event. Hopefully, all the young men and women who work all year long building their vehicles will benefit from it. Thanks again for all the efforts you put in to ensure that the event went well. Sincerely, Larry Rogers Treasurer, FVR-PCA ==============================================================================================

Response from Mike Cattelino for our FVR - PCA donation Dear Larry, I really appreciate this kind donation from your club. Your willingness to come and assist annually at the event is truly what makes me smile and makes the event the success that it is and will be. The time and ef-fort commitment that you and your club membership has blessed us with over the past seven years has been priceless. Thanks so much for your tremendous support and kindness. Most of these magazines publish articles on both old and new models as well as comparisons on various types of Por-sches. I will try to describe the flavor and quality of each one of the magazines listed below. If youre looking for a special gift for the holidays or a birthday, you may want to consider one of these for the Porsche fan in your life! Excellence magazine-www.excellence-mag.com--- This is a high quality magazine with feature articles on all Porsches ranging from 356s to the current 997. They include comparisons, do it yourself, Tuner and race preparation articles. This magazine has high quality pictures and is very well written. If you subscribe to one Porsche magazine, this is the one to have. Published nine times a year. GT Porsche-www.gtpurelyporsche.com---A high quality, all encompassing magazine published in England. It has a British flavor with a good perspective on the European view of the car world. The magazine is well put together with beautiful pictures. Published monthly. 911 & Porsche World-www.chpltd.com---A British all encompassing magazine. Probably one step below the two magazines men-tioned above. Still a quality magazine with articles on all models of Porsches being represented. It also covers the European racing scene. Published monthly. Christophorus-www.porsche.com/english/usa/news/christophorus---This is a high quality magazine with excellent photography and is published by Porsche. This magazine features articles focused primarily on current models and occasionally on older and race models. It covers driving tours in Europe as well as dinning and hotel information along the route. Also, it gives you an inside look at what is going on at Porsche in the Corporate Offices, Exclusive Department, Production Plants, museum and what Porsche is cur-rently offering to its customers. This is not a car enthusiasts magazine but offers more of a general overview on Porsche Culture. If behind the scene information and viewing some beautiful European scenery is important to you, then this might be a magazine you want to subscribe to. Published six times per year. Velocity-www.porscheownersclub.org---The magazine Velocity is published by the Porsche Owners Club. Both the club and magazine are geared to Porsche Club Racing and feature racing types of articles. Club races and results are published, do it yourself articles and an occasional article on current non race models are also included. The quality of the magazine is below that of all the magazines listed above, but if you like club racing and what is going on in that arena, this magazine offers the very best coverage. Published quarterly. 356 Registry-www.356registry.org---356 Registry Magazine provides coverage of the 356 type Porsches. The magazine is pub-lished six times a year. Panorama-www.pca.org---Everyone in the club gets Panorama as a club member, since everyone is familiar with the magazine, I am listing this FYI. FROM WITHIN THE 13TH ZONE From Within the 13th ZoneMay 2007

More Tales from the Top Mid April, the Zone Reps had our monthly conference call with President Prescott Kelly. Lots of interesting stuff. I will attempt to recap and share some of the information within this scribing. Prescott Kelly made a proposal to have another PCA Membership Survey in the near future. There will be a 3500 piece mailing in addition to an additional 4500 emails being sent out. The information that will be obtained will aid in promoting to the right audience for advertisers, make changes to Parades and other events of significance, enhance-ments to the website, etc. The 908 lawsuit continues on. At the winter board meeting based on input from your boards, the zone reps vote in favor of voting 4 members involved out of our club. As suspected, 2 of the members involved have appealed and the zone reps will listen to the appeal process at the start of the upcoming Porsche Parade being held in San Diego. Speaking about Parades, National has had some requests to hold a Parade somewhere in the Midwest perhaps in 2009 or 2010. If your region would be interested let me know. As of this writing, the San Diego Parade was not yet sold out. Registration information is available at: www.pca.org. The latest update is that in October, PCA will be hosting and Escape to American History in the Washington, DC area. More information will be forthcoming within Panorama. For 2008, we will be awaiting a presentation by Sierra Nevada Region (Reno) and Road Runner Region (Sante Fe) that we will hear at the July Parade. The 2007 PCA Automobile Raffle this year will be a 2007 911 Carrera. Entries will be limited to 4500 at $50 each. There will also be a 2nd place prize of a 2008 Parade entry to the Charlotte Parade for 2 individuals valued up to $2000. Last but not least, if a region prints the raffle entry within their newsletter and a region member is the lucky winner, then the region will be awarded $1000. Kind of sounds like Lotto or Mega Ball. Raffle opens May 1st until June 18th. The lucky winner will be announced in San Diego at Parade. As a liability reminder for regions hosting DEs or Club Races, make sure and review the track rental agreements for spectator clauses. Our insurance does not allow for general public spectators being covered. That coverage needs to be done by the track insurance. We are experiencing exciting times within our Zone. Last year, Milwaukee Region hosted its first club race and now they are well into plans for hosting their second club race at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in Rockton, IL. The Na-tional PCA DE Instructor program has been around for about 3 years. None were held within our Zone. This year, we will host two Instruction Programs, one by Chicago held on April 30th at Autobahn Country Club, and the other to be held by Kentucky Region, on June 22nd at Putnam in Meridian, IN as part of a new tradition Summer Heat DE. On a Sadder Note In the past two weeks, the Zone has lost two long time PCA members. Chicago lost Tony Neczat who enjoyed DEs, club racing, and socials. Bluegrass was shocked by the sudden passing of their vice president, Becke Cleaver. Beckes enthusiasm for education and the Porsche Club was intoxicating. May your thoughts and prayers be with these two members and their families during this difficult time. Its not the cars, its the people. Go out and start enjoying the Porsche Passion! Until next time Chris Inglot PCA Zone 13 Rep (847) 559-1126
