MINUTES

I. School/Instructional ReportsA. School Administrative Report (Olivia Adams)

1. Lisa Laichtman (Room 22, 4th Grade Teacher) is taking a leave of absence, Renee Bazant is subbing for her.

2. Amy Sawyer (1st Grade IA) was replaced by Brooks McCall. He is also doing 45 minute lunch.

3. Looking at writing assignments administered to the children before the break across grades – all had the same prompt. Teachers are looking for “anchor” papers to score against. Walgrove’s expectations are higher than district, so we have a year to really gather information.

4. Scheduled two sessions for parents to learn more about Common Core, planned and presented by Lynn Webster and Elvia Perez. 13th of February in English and 20th of February in Spanish

5. Working on a preschool directors’ open house to better connect with preschools. Light lunch with the principal and a tour. Thursday the 13th around 12:15pm. Would love some parents to attend.

6. Tech Committee is discussing the $10K Google grant need every teacher to have a working device.

7. Website – old outdated website for Walgrove is gone, we have School Loop website with system administrators (Doug Merrick, Tracy McCarthy, Ruben Gonzalez, Jan Aptaker, Olivia Adams) can manage it. Tech Committee is managing the

website. 8. Concern about meeting the needs of our advanced learners. Some parents

approached School Site Council. Working on two paths:a. professional learning network online forum posed a question about how meet the

needs of advanced learners. Looking to use this information to share publically what we are doing as a school.

b. group of teachers who have volunteered to develop a curriculum for advanced learners: Miss Biolatto, Mrs. Perez, Mrs. Webster, Mrs. Levi, Mrs. Cholpecki

II. Officer ReportsA. Co-Presidents (Julie Dair and Brandy Oeser)

1. Parent Center Teacher Assembly Projects: Forms are there, keep an eye on the boxes, need to do a reminder to the teachers.

2. Talent Show: Clare Carey will recruit people to help with the talent show. Date is TBD. Has a support team, but needs a chair. Need stronger guidelines on timing and content and they need to go home. Someone from special events will participate to help ensure it’s appropriate.

B. Vice Presidents of Fundraising (Brandy Oeser and Julie Dair, pro tem)1. Annual Fund: Friend and Family Participation Drive (01/27~01/31)

Overall we are doing very well, raised $100K against $98K in expenses. Annual fund is at $38k, we need to get to 50% participation for Wacky Wednesday.

5. Fourth Grade Holiday Boutique: Best bake sale ever $1000+ (key was dinner sales).6. Mrs. Nelson’s Book Fair: ~$1000. Did really well this year.7. Swag: $1.9k for Swag8. IKEA Fundraiser: Did not win, but we should get $100 gift card from Ikea.

1. Musical Theater: Is on for February. 2. PS Arts Family night is Thursday, February 6th. Fifth grade will do the Bake Sale,

G. Walgrove Grant Task Force (Sarah Reimers and Lisa Tauscher)$25K grant for STEAM project, which will help fund Studio, being submitted tomorrow.

H. Green Team (Clare Carey and Denise Bell): Walgrove Wildlands Day, 02/01Looking at building a bench for an outdoor type classroom setting. Will be made from recycled materials and may include tiles made in studio.

IV. New BusinessA. Auction 2014 (Michelle Dean, Lynn Jones, Brandy Oeser)

First meeting is next Friday, a fifth grade family is offering their house.B. Tile Art (Lisa Kantor)

This is not a fundraiser, but is to have the students’ art be part of the wildlands.
