Fourth Technical Meeting of the History Commission
From July 8th to 10th, the Fourth Technical Meeting of the History Commission was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Dr. Pa-
tricia Galeana, President of the History Commis-
sion, led the working groups; Rubén Ruiz Guerra
(Mexico), Vice President, served as Secretary of
the Meeting.
The members of the History Commission,
representing 10 countries of the Americas, includ-
ed: Dr. Omar Adolfo Cueto y Dra. Adriana Aída
García (Argentina); Dr. André Figueiredo (Brazil);
Mtro. Luis Valenzuela, Dr. Fernando José Castillo
Opazo y Dr. Enrique Pérez de Prada (Chile); Dra.
Giselle Chang (Costa Rica); Dra. Guadalupe Soas-
ti y Dra. María Elena Bedoya (Ecuador), Dr. Erick
Langer (United States); Dra. Cristina Oehmichen y
Dr. Julián Castro-Rea (Mexico); Dr Herib Caballero
(Paraguay); Dr. Javier Augusto Ávila Molero (Peru);

y Dr. Filiberto Cruz Sánchez, Dra. Glenis Tavares,
Mtro. Pablo A. Gómez, Dra. Reina Rosario Fernán-
dez, y Mtro. Eddy de los Santos (Dominican Re-
public).
Dr. Patricia Galeana presented her semi-an-
nual report, in which she described the activi-
ties of the Committees and Working Groups. She
also presented the publication of the Chronology
of America, result of four years of work by 44 re-
searchers from the Pan American Network, pub-
lished thanks to the National Autonomous Uni-
versity of Mexico and the Siglo XXI publishing
house.
Dr. Galeana also updated the status of the pe-
riodical publications of the Commission: Journals,
Technical Assistance Projects, Bulletin, and the
2019 "Leopoldo Zea" Award" and the Award for the
Best Master's Thesis in Pan American History
Dr. Cristina Oehmichen (Mexico) presented
her report as Editor of the Journal of Anthropolo-
gy of The Americas; those responsible of the 2019
Technical Assistance Projects also described their
reports over three sessions. Priority topics for
the Commission were discussed in the working
groups: the history of migration and the history
of climate change, as well as a critical evaluation
of the structure of the Pan American Institute of
Geography and History and the development of
a Pan American historical research agenda. The

The award aims to promote and recognize recent academic research, carried out by
national students and researchers from the Member States of the Pan American Institute
of Geography and History (paigh) or those graduated from official master's programs from
universities located in any of those Member States; this award will be granted in the
general field of the History of America, XIX and XX centuries.
