Today’s Psalm Response
We are his people, the sheep of his flock. (Psalm 100)
Our Adult Faith Word, Eucharist, Life
Fourth Sunday of Easter
John 10
My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. Christ knows us deeply
and because of the faith
we place in him we are called
to grow in knowing him
For the Christian assembly
a most essential activity
is breaking open the Word
touching Christ
in all the Scriptures
The voice of Jesus in Word proclaimed
draws us into intimacy
with him in our midst
and brings us more deeply
into the meaning of his passing over
from death into life
This is what we celebrate each Sunday
in our Eucharistic celebration
Our life as Christians in the world
is then an ongoing unfolding
of the grace of being known
and knowing the God
who loves us without condition
in Christ whom we follow
Our discipleship
carries us into the troubled world
to bear its burdens with the burdened
to live our true poverty
with the impoverished and
to seek healing for the afflicted
To know Christ
in the needs of all his people
is grace given us by his Spirit

PARISH NEWS
First Communion Sunday, May 12
11 o'clock Mass Why are our First Communicants
wearing a white alb
with a red cross? At our Baptism our name was called by the Good Shepherd to receive his risen life and enter his sheepfold, the Church. The white garment we wore as infants for our Baptism
was a sign that we were "a new creation… clothed in Christ' And the priest went on to pray: See in this white garment the outward sign of your Christian dignity. With your
family ad friends to help you by word and example, bring that dignity unstained into
everlasting life. From the youngest ages in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd we ponder and enjoy the liturgical signs of Baptism, including the white garment. We believe the richness of this sign should not be lost or for-gotten. Now we wear it to this new encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist, which is also a foretaste of the heavenly banquet. And we also carry our baptismal candles as a reminder of the gift of the light and life of the Risen Christ which we received in our Baptism, echoed in the words of the prayer the priest prayed: These children of yours have been enlight-
ened by Christ. They are to walk always as children of the light. May they keep the
flame of faith alive in their hearts. When
the Lord comes, may they go out to meet him with all the saints in the heavenly
kingdom.
