RECRUIT TRAINING SECTION

The Recruit Training Unit began the quarter with 68 recruits assigned to the 19th Recruit Class. At the close of the quarter, the 19th Recruit Class graduated the 24-week training curriculum on December 13, 2019, with a total of 67 recruits. In Q4, the 20th Recruit Class was sworn in on December 16, 2019 with 65 recruits starting the police academy. Currently, 58 recruits remain in the 20th Recruit Class, with a total of 144 hours of instruction administered. In Q4, the Recruit Training Unit assisted the Field Training Unit with instruction for the 2nd Lateral Police Officer class. Additionally, the Recruit Training Unit facilitated and instructed over 40 hours of supervisor in-service training during the fourth quarter of 2019.

Training Bureau

FIELD TRAINING SECTION

FTO Program:

18th Class had 38 officers complete FTO and 1 officer finishing Solo Phase

FTO Office coordinated and completed the 2nd IMPD Lateral Academy Class for 8 Recruits.

19th Class has 65 Officers in FTO

2nd IMPD Lateral Class has 8 officers in FTO

7 Officers completed Refresher Training

FTX was conducted for all members of the 19th and 2nd IMPD Lateral Academy at Eagle Creek Park.

Conducted interviews for new FTO Specialist Process. DTO Program:

Four detectives completed the DTO Training Program with 14 detectives currently training in the Program.

CAREER AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT SECTION

During this quarter, the Office of Career and Leadership Development (CLD) concluded weeks three and four of the IMPD Leadership Academy session 2019-02. The office coordinated and facilitated the graduation ceremony consisting of 45 internal and external agency students. Prior to the November graduation, the office continued preparing for the 2020-01 session which begins on January 27th. As part of the preparation the CLD office conducted three separate Leadership Academy pre-training sessions in December. In addition, the office worked closely with ISA and E-imagine to build a new student SharePoint site for the next session. The CLD office continues to maintain the IMPD Master designation. During this quarter, the CLD has assisted officers with the application process and coordinating with the CLD review committee. The office submitted six applications to the committee in December, adding four new Master Patrol officers and two Master Detectives to the department’s total. Finally, the office assisted with the coordination and completion of Math 123, which is part of the Ivy Tech / IMPD partnership. The officers and traditional students completed their semester in December. The office is currently working with Ivy Tech on the next semester, which is set to start in January 2020.
