the new Pastor

Since the new clergy assignments came out in March I've been the 'new pastor' without a name. Announcements, bulletin articles, meetings... the new pastor had no name. I felt like if I was one of the characters from Game of Thrones. I was always addressed as the 'new pastor', 'the new pastor has no name'. So I thought it was good to share few things about the new pastor so you may get to know him.

1. My priority: Christ and Christ alone. I became a priest and surren-dered my life to Him. If I serve Christ faithfully to my best with my strengths and limitations then I will be able to serve parishioners the best way possible. Would you join me in making Christ the priority of our Parish?

2. One thing I know about myself: I come from a different culture and socio-economic status. What is a priority to me may not be to oth-ers. I'm aware of this. For instance when people say "oh it's so cold" (55F) I think to myself, "that's not even close to being cold after living through the six months winter in Lithuania." I'm very sensitive to the use of money when it seems to me that it was spent on something that wasn't necessary, in my opinion, after living 9 years with only one meal per day. What I do know very well is that there is just one thing that matters regardless of our different backgrounds: holiness. Would you support me in trying to be holy?

3. My biggest strength: each one of you, the parishioners. One of you from our lovely 7:15 am daily Mass recently told me as we were talk-ing about how I feel about my change of role from vicar to pastor, "You have nothing to worry about. You have all of us, the parishioners." You are my strength. Would you be my Eucharist becoming one and all together collaborating in making our parish a beautiful place?

Christ my priority. Holiness my goal. Each one of you my strength.I hope with this you may get to know me a little bit better.

With love, the New Pastor

STA KIDS FAITH FORMATION BEGINS SOON! REGISTER NOW for next year’s classes (including prepa-ration for reception of the sacraments)! Our official “kick-off” pancake breakfast won’t happen until August 19, but don’t wait!! Our first session is on August 26, which will be here before you know it! Registration forms are available in the vestibule at all churches and on-line (www.paloaltocatholic.net). All who are regis-tered prior to the Pancake Breakfast will receive a prize!! (I have twelve winners thus far. Looking to make it a whole lot more!)

CATECHISTS NEEDED!!Summer is passing quickly, and our Faith Formation sessions will begin sooner than we expect (first session is August 26). We need catechists to help form our chil-dren in their faith. In particular, we are needing help with our youngest children (Pre-K and Kindergarten) at both Our Lady of the Rosary and St. Albert the Great. Here are some reasons to consider doing this:10 - You will grow in your own faith, learn the teachings of the church, and deepen your own relationship with Jesus.9 - Children, teens and adults in today’s world more than ever, need to hear the Good News of Jesus.8 - Children, teens and adults in today’s world need to encounter good role models of faith.Stay tuned for more reasons...

Jesus told us to “Go make disciples of all nations.” Let’s start with our children. You can help! Training will be provided.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD NEEDS LEADERSAs our faith formation classes resume, we also want to resume Children’s Liturgy of the Word, an opportunity for our children to hear God’s Word at Mass in words they more easily understand. Training and materials will be provided for anyone willing to help.

QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OF THIS? CONTACT SUSAN IN THE PASTORAL CENTER (650-494-2496, EXT. 25).
