I believe that the colour scheme challenges the conventions of real media products because it is something that has not been produced on a magazine before and I believe this makes my magazine individual because indie magazines are conventionallyblack but is not too outrageous and brings something new to the industry.

I believe that my main image conforms to conventions because the audience feel invited in by the eye contact from the band members. It is also commonfor close ups of the artist to be used, as it is welcoming for the audience. I feel the props I used such as the cupcakes are different from the normal magazine props and make my magazine look fun.

Corner grabbers and free gifts are very commonin magazines and I have decided to merge the twotogether in order to attract the audience instantly as the free gift is now the firstthing they will see when the magazine is on the shelves, almost praying on the audiences greed.

Advertisements are a common convention of magazines, especially advertisinginformation, therefore I decided to includeinformation on gigs as well as other articles featured in the magazine. However, unlike many magazines today, I decided not to have many advertisements on the front coveras I felt it looked to crowded and I wanted to leave something for the audience to look forward to readingabout and possibly be surprised by.

IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

SubscriptionLike most magazines I

decided to include subscription details, however I felt that they were a little brief, so i made some changed to them in order to make them more obvious as this would create business for the magazine and sell more copies.

Main featureLike most contents pages

I made the main feature the most obvious part of the contents page. However, this was the only picture I includedand I thought it would benefit the contents page more to have more images to makeit more interesting, I also added more articles to stick to that convention as without them, the magazine would have very little content and would not b worth the money.

HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL

GROUPS?

My school magazine represented sixth form students, this is a similar age group to who my music magazine represent but my school magazine was open to anybody in that age group as it includes news, puzzles, revision tips and even sixth form sport results, so that there is something for everyone because it had to be appropriate for all students. Therefore I stuck to the schools colour scheme in order to not be to specific to certain gender or genre.

My music magazine however is produced for both genders and the blue/purple colour scheme is still acceptable for male and female and I also have male and female band members, so both genders have someone to aspire to. I have chosen an indie genre as it is a popular genre to follow in society today. I believe my colour scheme shows this because it is different and individual, like the indie genre. My band also represent this genre because they are quite casual and fashionable and the band members are around the age of the target audience and have different likes and dislikes so they can relate to the band.

WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

Aged 17-25. This meant I could include my own personal experiences and preferences

into the magazine.

Those who follow the indie genre and like to be a little bit different, enjoy new music and gigs.

Both male and female gender

HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

Fact filesThe fact files I used on the double page spread allowed the audienceto learn about each band member. This allowed them to feel like theypersonally knew each member and would then want to purchase the magazine to read the whole interview if this was the case thata possible buyer had looked throughbefore purchasing.

The individual photos along with all the other photographs taken are of the band member making eye contact with the audience. This gives the impression that the band are inviting the reader to join them and give a more welcoming feel to new and loyal readers. This makes the relationship between the artist and the reader more personal.

Individual photos

InterviewI chose a question and answer interview because I think that it would be more interesting for a reader to have the opinions and chat from people their own age, and it is a little less formal than a piece created by a writer, which would suit the type of language used by young people today, between each other. The interview is also more intimate and does not include other peoples opinions, therefore the readers can really read and learn about new bands.

WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO DISTRIBUTE YOUR

MAGAZINE?

I have chosen to distribute my magazine. This is because they have already produced magazines such as ‘Q’ which is popular magazine for

the indie genre, which I have also chosen for my featured band. The magazine is produced on a regional scale, this means that it will be published widely over many places and would target a large audience

similar to ‘Q’. I believe Bauer would be interested in my magazine because: It offers a chance to subscribe

Offers a free Gift Gives the reader inside information e.g. Upcoming gigs

And conforms to many other conventions as well as bringing a individuality to the industry.

I would also like my magazine to be published online as well as a print out. This is because young adults today are very good with technology and is

always a part of their everyday life now. I think this would help promote my printed copy and would also be cheaper to produce and more appealing to

the audience as it could benefit them financially to download as a PDF, whilst benefiting the environment as well.

Throughout the task I have learnt a lot about Adobe Photoshop Elements. I have used tools such as

Crop Lighting adjust Shape Text effects Gradient background fill Adjusting the size of images

The use of such tools allowed me to create a more professional look and remove any unwanted parts of the photograph, such as the

background. By changing the lighting and sharpness of and image, I could create each individual image of each band member look

slightly different from the other to avoid boring images all looking the same

I also created a number of text effects such as a noisy border around the mastheads as part of a new way to make it stand out.

LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE

PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

I feel that I have learnt planning is very important and if I created my school magazine again I

would plan a list of shots and do some sketches of ideas about how I would like my magazine.

I would also take more feedback as I only took feedback from a very small sample and it was

hard to generalise to the whole target audience.

Finally, I would have used a focus group of many ages to decide on my target audience because I

feel questionnaires do not give a lot of information.

OVERALL CONCLUSION

However, there were many things that could be improved about my magazine.
