Summer Term Our topics this term will be food, growing and water. We will be arranging a trip that will tie in with this theme. More details will be announced nearer the time. Activities highlighted in red are things you can do at home to support your child’s learning. The children will be looking at different types of food and how it is grown. We will talk about why we need food and how to make healthy choices. We will continue to grow plants and watch changes as they grow. Show children photographs of themselves as babies or young children and talk about how they have changed. Look at features in the environment such as how the trees are changing and the flowers are growing. Talk to your child about not picking public flowers so everyone can enjoy them. Talk to your child about the difference between healthy and unhealthy (treat) foods. Children will be given many opportunities on a daily basis to develop their speaking, listening and understanding through a range of activities. A picture of the day is being used in F2 to encourage conversation. Give your child opportunity to talk and time to answer Extend their vocabulary by introducing new words and model sentences Encourage children to recall their experiences and model asking different questions using, who, what, when and how to start. We will continue our outdoor P.E sessions every Daily phonics ensures children are having regular access to activities that teach and reinforce phoneme knowledge. These have a direct link to reading and writing where the children will be using the skills of segmenting and blending to build their confidence in attempting to read more complex words as well as write them. This term F2 will be focusing on shape space and measure, the children will be consolidating their prior learning linked to 2D and 3D shapes, as well as using language related to measurement, money and time. In number we will be looking at subtraction, addition, doubling and halving. Give children the opportunity to handle real money in real life situations. Identify shapes in the environment and ask your child to tell you about them. Encourage your child to recognise and order numbers 1-20 Through music they will be focusing on creating their own rhythms, experimenting with instruments and learning about pace and timing. Clap out a simple rhythm and see your child can copy it Have fun with rhyming words e.g. what rhymes with pig? Sing lots of songs and make up your own words to songs. We will continue our outdoor P.E sessions every Friday afternoon. Children will be practising following simple instructions, focusing on moving in a variety of different ways including, running, jumping, skipping and hopping.

Provide plenty of opportunity to play outside in large open spaces (parks).

Give your child opportunity to practise their writing skills by encouraging them to write for a purpose such as a shopping list or a letter to a friend.

Foundation 2Literacy Targets: To recognise 20 tricky wordsMathematics targets: To become familiar with more 2D and 3D shapes. To become familiar with numbers up to 20.

Foundation 2 - PE

Wednesday – Outdoor PE. Children should come to school in their uniform and bring kit in their bags to change into after dinner.No jewellery should be worn. Any new piercings must be covered with plasters/tape.

Active learningThis will occur every Wednesday, where children will have the opportunity to choose from a range of activities across the whole of the foundation unit.

Cooking money contributions We will not be asking for cooking donations this term,

but will be continuing to bake weekly in our active learning sessions.
