About the ForumAbout the Forum

Co-organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic

of China and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the

Forum on World Trade in Services is scheduled to be held on 9 – 10

June 2005 at the Shanghai International Convention Center. With

the growth of the world trade in services as a backdrop and with a

particular focus on the opening, cooperation and development in

China’s services sector, the 2-day event covers a wide range of

important topics such as the recent progress in the WTO Doha

Negotiations on services trade, China’s participation in the WTO

Doha trade talks, the growth trends in global services trade, the

development of China’s trade in services, and investment

opportunities in the services sector in China. China’s state leader,

the Chinese Minister of Commerce, the Mayor of Shanghai, the

Director-General of the WTO, China’s Ambassador to the WTO, and

representatives from world-class services companies will deliver

keynote speeches at the Forum.

Forum participants include about 400 representatives from

governments around the world, international organizations

and institutions, senior executives of multinational

companies, as well as scholars and specialists. In addition,

over 600 delegates from China’s central and local

governments, state-owned and private companies,

professors and experts in China will also participate in the

Forum.

This Forum will invite representatives from world-famous service

providers to introduce the latest trend in the development of service

industry and global trade in services, who will join the discussion and

exchanges with provincial governments and their counterparts in

China. The Forum will also arrange field trips to visit local service

providers in Shanghai and introduce business opportunities for

investment in service industry in China, especially in Shanghai.

This Forum will become a focus for the service industries in all

participating countries. The corporate image of forum participants

will be strongly promoted through press conferences, advertising

along the highway from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport

to downtown areas and across central commercial districts, as well

as wide coverage through satellite TVs, newspaper, internet

reporting and other media in Shanghai and across China.
