Formed in 2005, the objectives of the CSEE are to promote the study of ecology and evolution in Canada; raise public awareness of the importance of ecology and evolution to Canadian society; facilitate communication between members of the Society and decision-makers in the public, private and non-governmental sectors; act as a liaison with Federal and Provincial funding agencies to support and promote ecological and evolutionary research in Canada. Other activities/benefits• Socialize and network with colleagues across Canada• Address Canada-specific topics relevant to biodiversity • Society representation on relevant councils (e.g., Canadian Council on

Animal Care) and joint society activities, such as PAGSE (Partnership Group for Science and Engineering, http://www.pagse.org)

• Develop sister institutions, such as the Canadian Institute for Ecology and Evolution, devoted to thematic programs and working groups

• A voice at the table with NSERC – enabled us to shape the new conference system for funding decisions and input on matters from undergraduate awards to the pitfalls of the CCCV.

The goals of SWEEET are to:• Increase awareness of, and engage in a broad dialogue about, the

challenges women face in the modern scientific workforce• Facilitate networking for student/early-career scientists with established

scientists from universities, government, and industry• Share individual and institutional strategies to increase the

representation, retention, and career success of women scientists
