1. Earlier power consumption were of secondary concern that means, more concerned about improving the performance rather than the power consumption. However, in nanometer technology which we also called deep submicron technology power has become most important issue because of several factors number one is increasing transistor count, higher speed of operation, leakage power. In nanotechnology, these factors are becoming most important issue for power dissipation.2. And another important factor which is also becoming predominant that is increased process parameter variability, due to aggressive scaling and it is creating problems in yield due to processed parameter variation. The parameters like threshold voltage and channel length are no longer constant. So, yield, reliability and testing these three are creating problems as we are going to deep submicron technology.3. Why low power? To reduce the packaging and cooling cost,to reduce the increasing power density by applying suitable low power techniques. Portable systems: Commercial success of these products is dependent on size, weight, cost and computing power and battery life . So, low-power design methodology is very important to make them commercially viable Relaibility: It is very important so that power consumption is small, rise in temperature is small beside the chip can operate unrealiabily. Environment: To reduce the adverse effect on environment.4. In order to optimize the power dissipation of digital system low power methodology should be applied throughout the design process from system level to process level.
